You do not need multiple characters.... this is what guild mates or friends are for. If everything on your server needs to be pre-sliced before it can be sold.... then I am sure there are ALOT of smugglers on your server slicing weapons and gaining money like crazy.

I will concur on clicking sell 500 times once a month though. But that really is for the merchant forums. It has nothing to with WSing and sooooo much more to dowith merchanting ( yes I made that word up!). Drop the sell timeline all together is what I say. It is posted till it is sold...

WS is fine.
I sell my weapon unsliced... the reasons being that I think its a waste to have the crappy slices and also I dont want to take work away from smugglers. I could slice all my own stuff seeing that I have a master weaponsmith toon also but I dont.
Saying that you have to have master smuggler to compete as a weaponsmith is a cop-out. I make good money selling stuff and its all unsliced. It is true though that I dont live on your server.

What needs to happen is sliced weapons need a bigger disadvantage. At current there's no reason to NOT have a sliced weapon. Doesn't sit well with me.

I'm not sure if those who advocate making slicing more accessible for WS are paying attention to the direction of the game, but the trend is clearly towards making players more dependent on one another, not less dependent. I only sell sliced weapons and have always either paid someone or gotten a guildmate to do it for me, in which case I either pay them or get them some nice weapons. I have two toons and could easily swing the skill points but it would a waste of time for me as I don't want to slice 100 weapon a week nor do I want to waste the skill points of my combat toon.

First, this likley isn't for the player who either has multiple characters as purchased accounts, or for the player who produces crates of weapons and sells them unsliced. The patches on Test Center are a step in the right direction, but, as pointed out in that thread, it is hardly a solution. "Patch" is an appropriate term.
The problem with WS:
1) Skill points
2) Storage
Issue 1 is caused by a Master WS needing Master Smuggler and Merchant. There are some very easyoptionsto solve this problem:
Problem for every one in the game?
Completely untrue.
Didn't read much farther into it than that.

This is by design, one is not supposed to be self sufficient.
I have my hands full with crafting, the last thing I need is to slice my stuff and then worry about how to price each individual weapon. My suggestion is to sell unsliced stuff or find a smuggler and work with him.
You will want some merchant skills though, owning a business is a very funny and sophisticated form of PvP in this game.

There are some drawbacks, but to most people those are not important.
1. Repairs are worse on sliced weapons. On unsliced weapons I regulary get allmost perfect repairs, on sliced wepaons very seldom.
2. Crackdown penalities when you are caught.
I think one solution would be that sliced weapons cannot repaired at all. This would let most people think twice about slicing all their weapons, when they have to be replaced after short time.

My original post stated that this is not an issue for players with multiple characters, and I actually think many of the comments here support that claim. If I had multiple characters, I would play the game differently. For example, I could sell unsliced weapons, and use my other character as a "looter" to gather high-end drops. With my crafting character, I could become Master Merchant, Master WS, Master Droid Engineer, and still have survey IV. If I then thought that I needed Master Smuggler to enjoy the game, Icould choose whether to turn my second character into a Smuggler.
Eventually, assuming I stick with the grind, I'll unlock my Jedi slot and then, for me, the issue pretty much disappears. I maintain, though, that a single character WS is overly difficult for a variety of reasons.
As for slicing and the role it plays in the game, I agree with many of the comments. In particular, slicing is suppose to be "illegal." When the "Imperial crackdown" was originally announced, sliced weapons were to be confiscated. Smugglers were given a bonus (95% for Master) to avoid such confiscation. This was changed upon release, and the serious attempt to reign in sliced weapons never happened. The current situation is that everyone uses sliced weapons (and armor I assume).

Yes, they removed it because it would be very unbalancing. I've never heard of an imp getting searched by STs.
What they could (and imho they should) do with slicing is to let the smuggler do something like an experimentation on the weapon, with a chance of destroying the weapon (like assembly), choose which attribute to enhance, and after the slice the weapon should get another very small chance of blowing up, a chance that would be tied to the percentage of the improvement of the weapon.

I work fine as a single toon MWS, atm I'm MWS Merchant 4004 Master Swords. I regularly go hunting with my friends, in fact I probably spend more time hunting than crafting. I have a number of smugglers who slice for me so Master Smuggler is not a requirement, even on Flurry. As for storage yes, we do need more storage.

Storage is an issue for all characters, not just weaponsmiths. And this is being changed (hopefully) with the changes on tc.
As for skill points, you don't have to be a master merchant, and you don't have to be a smuggler. I purely sell unsliced weapons (unless is the speed sliced t21's/ph's that i make for my alts).
Establish your name as a weaponsmith, be open and forthcoming with your customers, and inturn they will seek you out. i could easily operate with one vendor in one house and be satisified. word gets around.
Understand the business principles behind being a weaponsmith, work hard at it, and success will come.

That drawback isn't serious enough. Like I said, there's no reason to NOT havea sliced weapon.
