Thread: Overcharging?
Well he was a resource vendor/manager for a large Player city (that is all I am going to say, I am not going to "name and shame"), and unfortunately I have found few resource vendors who stock the stuff I need when I need it, so I need to keep him "sweet" for now.
Thinking about it in the cold light of day, I am not sure if I actually offered the 3cpu price but rather asked him if that was his final answer- to be told that he was going to get his guild's current hologrinder to make it. (I was however going to drop to 3cpu so you are all correct, and I am taking note of the "set a price and stick to it" suggestions you have alll made.)
The price issue aside this is the bit that frustrated me the most. Maybe he didn't realise just _how_ insulted I found it that he would happily get someone who is just grinding away professions (and so has no concern for his craft) to make it rather than me or any other "proper" Weaponsmith.

I've been playing since launch and just recently mastered weaponsmith with one of my characters. It's been my experience that though costs are dictated though formula, price is dictated by the market. If the market is flooded with mass quantities of hologrind cast offs priced at absurdly low levels then you have to adjust your pricing scheme to remain competitive.
In your situation you probably could have come up with a compromise above 3cpu especially on a newer server. Was it unreasonable for him to charge 10 cpu fro the Doonium? Not if you were willing to buy it. You could have stated that the price was too high and he would have had to wait for another buyer. I've found that people would rather have the sale that wait for another buyer. If they're eager to sell then you can generally knock the price down a bit
