Thread: Breathe deeper, think clearer, post nicer....

If I see an out of place post, I one star it and ignore it
replying will only have them continue to ask questions out of place
This might be the best course of action.
What I hate about these posts is the idea of the poster that by breaking some (maybe unwritten) rules and shouting out loud enough they will get the attention and will get what they want. Looking at most of those threads I regret to see that this does indeed work. But I don't have to like it. (That was the reason I asked not to answer these trade forum posts)
The problem is to differentiate between people doing it on purpose and people just being unaware. The above reaction looks like the best thing to do, in both cases.

The sickening truth of the sticky threads is they obviously do not work. Otherwise people would not ask these inane questions. There should be a simple guide on the main page. This might stop some of the inane filter through. Though getting info off the main page is like pulling teeth. You get more knowledge off a pack of gum. Then sony has seen fit to put on that page. Every profession should have a basic guide there. In this game you find out something new every day, and the scarey thing is there is no guide on some of this valuable info.
We have all seen the new developements and the spotlighted stories. That are about as non commental as a guy who shrugs alot. Its terribly scary when a person who has played for a month already has no clue what sliceing is. The list goes on because there is no real source of info.
Bottom line is sticky threads do not work. It might be better if people were forced to go through faqs first. The sad fact is that this game has 12 year olds playing it, and they are not the most brilliant of people. They treat this like any other message board. You do not have to be rude they are just ignorant. Why are they ignorant, because sony hasnt put any time into seeing that they are otherwise. With a game this complex info should be more available, and alot of it.
Strange though I looked at the game guide sold seperately, and it was filled to the brim with important knowledge. Guess sony asks why give it away for free when you can charge ten dollars more.
If people won't read a FAQ in the WS forum, they sure as heck won't read a guide on the main page, especially not to get the answer to a WS related question. It's not like FAQ's were just invented yesterday; they've been around forever.A 12 year old in this day of ageis probably more likely to know what a FAQ is and what it's for than most 40 year olds. It just comes down to laziness and consideration for others time.
However, I dolike your idea about a basic guide for every profession, perhaps compiled in some way by the players that are dedicated to their professions. While it wouldn't stop the "How do I grind WS in six hours" type posts, it would serve as a useful guide for players trying to decide which professions to pursue. And if the players compile it themselves, then we can be sure that the most important aspects of the profession will be included.
On your final point, SOE isn't a charity, so they're going to find ways to make money. I virtually never buy game guides; I'd rather try to figure things out for myself. If worse comes to worse, most games have fan sites whereI can get tips ifI become stuck.

I am one of those people who has been very big into message boards since late 2000. I was a mod for years on the IGN message boards. And, to be honest, even with all I've seen and all I've been a part of posting and modding message boards, I am VERY MUCH against sticky threads for information on topics. Now, if it's a poll or a call for questions/suggestions, then that's great.

I'd take that level of respect over a few non-posters thinking we need to work on our "image".
Are you insinuating I am a non-poster?

Are you insinuating I am a non-poster?No, I'm insinuating that you're concerned about how people outside of the forums view us, those who do not post here but come here every two months to ask about whatever flavor-of-the-week loot drop. Personally, I'm only concerned with our community, not the gossip of other communities.
We don't live in a bubble, we have to interact with others, being nice just seems to be the choice most weaponsmith don't seem to take a majority of the time when it comes to questions. That is all I am saying.
"SomeGuy tells you : 'Hey'"
You are in combat, deep in crafting land, or somehow otherways busy
"You reply : 'Hi'"
"SomeGuy tells you : 'I have a question...':
You get incapped while in the middle of typing a reply
"You reply : 'What's your question?'"
"SomeGuy tells you : 'What's the stats on your best FWG5'"
"You reply : 'Oh... can you check out my vendor? It's at this location'"
You get incapped a second time while writing a reply...
"SomeGuy tells you : 'Oh... can't you just tell me your stats?'"
"You reply : 'I'm really busy right now... and my vendor should have a few FWG5s left'"
You get a third incap, and get a death while typing that reply
"SomeGuy tells you : 'WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU YOU CAN'T ANSWER A SIMPLE FREAKING QUESTION'"

Seeing so much of these server specific trade posters here ignoring polite and flamed reminders that they ARE actually in the wrong forum and stating they have every right to post trade issues here can be quite irritating. You can ignore one or two of them, but when it starts to get a flood you tend to loose your patience and as a result your politeness.
The whole give a wookiee a fish and he eats for a day (ok its a big fish)or teach him to fish and he eats for life type of thing is why I refer the very simple things to the FAQ after that is what a FAQ is for to answer the frequently asked Q's we get and quite honestly if they do not learn where to find that info themselves then they are going to be in big trouble later anyway. I do post replies to some posts but others I don't (its not like every post is a read the FAQ post and I try not to belittle the person when I do tell em where to go (FAQ)

If you take the time to post to tell them to look at the FAQ, why don't you just answer the question? I can see you saying, that answering the question doesn't solve the problem because then they will just make another post when they have another question, versus looking at the FAQ. Now for one, I personally have never in depth read the FAQ that is glued up there, but after glancing through it, there is much to be sought after. Although it does cover a large base of ideas that are involved in Weaponsmithing, it doesn't cover everything it should cover and it is indeed imo a hard to read layout.
