I'm not sure what will happen to SWG after everyone has unlocked their Jedi. They took away the +14 to crafting... Jedi MWS can't even make sabers for other jedi. I haven't done the holo grind because I love MWS too much...but these days it IS trying my patience... I want to see more jedi dependence on the other classes in the game.

A lot of good points in this thread. No bad ones. If our correspondent was on the forums more than once a week maybe we'd have a chance. Our only hope is the expansion. We better be crafting them spaceship guns...

Um.... conversely, I would welcome this change.
Go hunt something else......
Yeah, maybe I should go hunt kreetles instead, huh? I hear they drop real phat lewt.
I don't have a problem with a master combat professon being able to take on a tough mob like a Rancor, one on one, and even then it should be a close call. What's the point of being aMASTER combat professionifwe're alljustpansies whohave to group to take on every single worthwhile creature?

Hyperbole is not conducive.
A Master Rifleman is simply the person who has mastered the Rifle.
Being fantasticly good with a rifle does not (well, *should* not) make you able to single-handedly take down a 30' tall critter with teeth, claws, and a propensity to eat anything that moves.
Oh, and just because you can't kill the *biggest* critter in the game, does NOT make you a pansy.
If you feel the need to go kill kreetles, more power to you.
I am strongly of the opinion that high-end content should NOT be soloable.
Mid-range stuff, hell yeah.
High-end, hell no.
What's the point of playing a Massively ***Multiplayer*** Online game if you're just going to solo all the time?
Don't misunderstand, I think the option should be there. People should be able to play the game how *they* want to play it, the *majority* of the time.
But there should always be something in the game to strive for. Something to look at, and think "hell, if got 10 mates together, I *reckon* we could take it".
As for "phat lewt", perhaps you could tell me what "phat lewt" Rancors drop?
Good point on the Rancors, they generally don't drop jack for loot. In my original post I was just using them as an example. Substitute Nightsisters if you like, instead. My Master Swordsman alt can take on pretty muchfive of any type of NS (except Elders) and come out with barely a scratch. I agree that this is completely ridiculous. However, I don't see why a master combat profession shouldn't be able to solo a single Nightsister (other than an Elder obviously). It should be a close fight, but still doable. Of course, given that most of the NS I've seen spawn in groups of five, the real trick would be in trying to split one off from the group to solo.
And my point wasn't that master combat professions should be able to solo the biggest creatures in the game (btw, Rancors aren't the biggest mobs in SWG). My point was that master combat professions should be able to solo *some* worthwhile creatures. Mid-level content hardly drops anything worthwhile.
Not everyone has time, or the desire, to find a group everytime they play. In my experience, it can take an hour or more for even a regular group to get together. Someone is always waiting in line for buffs, or running an errand or is logging in late for some RL reason. When I get home from work, I don't have an hour to waste waiting for a group to get together.
Besides, there are still plenty of things that could be done in a group for those that want to: NS Elders (or groups of NS), Krayts, the Gorax, the Vette, the DW bunker, Geo cave, etc. This is all stuff that players can "strive" for, all the more so once the rebalance hits.

I think you missed the key thrust of his point. Btw, the bit I highlighted in green - well - that's what Jedi do now.
It would be great to inject danger into the game, and yes, high end content should require a team of co-ordinated people to achieve (ergo to this there needs to be reliable rewards and enough to go round rather than the risk of having 20 people beat on something for 15 minutesand loot Rebel Orders 2/3).
His commentary about 'pansy' master combat professions was contextually related to the ever growing masses of Jedi, well, at least that's how I interpreted it.
What's the point of making high end content needing a team of a dozen players to take on if a single person, playing a Jedi, who is totally self sustaining, can outdamage them in 20 seconds flat, take the loot, flip them off and drive away?
Ever play Masters of Orion? It would be like playing the Klaxxon - the weakest race with no benefits and all pain in the butt.
Economy wise as someone pointed out, they are self sustaining. They make everything they need, and they can take anything they want. They are an anomaly in a player driven economy. Not just for weaponsmiths. They have no interdependencies like others - saving eventually for MAYBE starships. And they are being used by people far and wide to kill steal, harass, bully. People can either try to deal with that, quit, or go Jedi to even the terms.
I'm fair worried about the state of the game from an entire perspective and not just a weaponsmiths' one. Jedi are too rampant. The devs will rue the day they decided to make it playable. Sure it was a real marketing gimmick but let's face it - as it stands it is an undeniable disaster.
This game had enough backing without making it so people could play Jedi. I'd go so far as to say wipe Jedi out, replace it with a solid GCW system and that's how it should have been. Not looking for an argument here - just saying what I think. Or at least something must be done to change how Jedi is working now. Them being everywhere you look, stealing kills, being idiots (not all of them but enough of them).
I wouldn't even say this is a doomsday discussion because it's the right here and now and not some prediction - and here and now they are ruining things.
The devs talk about profession definition and everyone having a role to play. For crafters it's a pretty black and white definition. Doctors for healing and buffs. Entertainer types for mind and BF. Combat classes are a little more hazy - but ostensibly definition is derived by damage type and specials(which is a weak, weak rationale).
What's a Jedi's role?
Where do they fit?
How do they mesh in the community?
All I see is a 'profession' that can make it's own weapons, heal themselves, run faster than anyone else, outdamages anyone else. Whatever they need, they make. Whatever they want, they take. Their damage type is universally unstoppable.
I ask again, where does this 'fit' in the community?
