Wouldn't we all! It simply isn't possible. You won't be able to make anything good enough for people to want to buy and certainly not in the volumes that you need to get the required XP. Grinding is the only option really.

Funny, _everything_ I made while working towards Novice WS I sold on the bazzar...

If I have to grind all the way to Gunsmith before I sell anything, doesn't that defeat the point of making the lower level stuff? If so, why not put in a 100,000XP skillbox called 'gunsmith'?

Maybe its because some people want to finance their crafting by actually producing items that people are willing to buy, at a quality and price thats worth it.

If it takes me making 50,000 weapons (of all types) before I can make a T21, thats 50,000 weapons out there with my name on them. If I make an effort with them (all of a few mouse clicks on the experiment screen) and I make a good gun, then thats 50,000 happy customers. Can you say 'reputation' ?

So you are trying to tell me that you made master sometime after the third week of your servers life an manage to sell 50,000 crappy stat weapons on the bazaar? Im sorry but I have to throw the BS flag here. Unless theres a Special Olympics server I was not aware of, the servers are populated with players that have more money than they know what to do with and don't blink at spending 60k on a t-21 or 15k on a laser rifle and will scoff at you if you cannot produce something as good as theyve _heard_ existing. I made master at week 4 on my server and even backthen I was snubbed by a LOT of players because my techniques4 weapons were inferior quality. That was at a time where I actually could sell things as non master. Most of my client base are Min/Max'ers and would venture to guess its that way for all master weaponsmith. I guess its possible on maybe Test Center but the live servers definitely are Min/Max'ers now.

I find that Masters don't seem to put much energy into cranking out DLT20(a)'s, so I got Experimentation II and Firearms II and started making them and they're the best that are offered on the bazaars at least (about +15 max damage than anyone elses and lower speed)... and I priced them competitively too.

My suggestion would be to do likewise - i.e. get Experimentation up early so that you can get some quality into what you make while you climb the rest of the tree.

It's unreasonable to think that you will sell loads of anything, but you don't make _that_ many amazing components and guns anyway (and those that aren't just gets practiced on), so the ones you get as perfect as you can should be able to sell if nothing else.

You've got the wrong end of the stick here...

I'm not saying I'v got Master WS - I'm only just a novice. (On Chimera, where people don't have much cash yet)

What I'm trying to say is that in a fully player driven economy, there are customers at all levels who will buy whatever you sell. If you do a good (not necessarally outstanding) job on a weapon, they're more likely than not going to try and get another weapon from you when they can afford it (or their certs allow)

Not everyone is a full combat monkey and needs/wants the best weapon in the game (it'd be pretty dull if we all had T21's). Heck - the entire set of crafting classes may need to shoot something at some point and only be able to use a Scout blaster. In this instance, they may not care if its the best gun or merely good enough for the job, as long as it kills the critter before it kills them.

When I was crafting up the engineering line, I was consistantly making the best bone armor on the bazzar . That certainly doesn't mean its the best in the game, but you sure get a wider audience through the bazzar than you do on a personal vendor out in the sticks somewhere (although you're likely to get a request for the location of your vendor from people who bought your goods from the bazzar). That goes for weapons too; If the only rifle I can use as a Novice Marksman is a DLT20, then thats what I'm gonna go and buy. (Note that many Artisans will have Novice Marksman so they can at least shoot something, regardless of whether they choose to do anything with the XP they get from it)

Remember - not all of us are in this game to make the top weapons and ignore the rest of the market. Some of us want to provide a service to the community - all of it.

I felt the same way as you when I started. Then I learned the truth. Very very few people want crappy guns. Money comes easily in this game. Too easily. And as long as people can run destroy missions for two hours or delivery missions for a bit, they can amass quite a chunk of change. In the second month of the game (my first month), I started on Kettemoor. In one night, running nothing but delivery missions between the two towns furthest apart on the map, I managed to accumulate 20,000 credits. I did so so that I could buy a top-of-the-line scout blaster made by a legendary weaponsmith on our server who was quitting the biz.

I ended up only spending 5K for a gun that was only marginally worse than what this guy put out (he was sold out by the time I got there), but that gun was really a gift from another up and coming master weaponsmith. My attitude was and still is, why buy anything but the best? If money comes easily and weapons decay slowly (and they DO decay slowly at the rate I use 'em), why would you buy anything but top-notch weapons?

And therein lies the problem. Even someone who had just hit advanced marksman (where you get to use the scout blaster) can afford a master-crafted gun. And the more masters there are, the more they'll undercut each others' prices. Novices HAVE no market to sell to because at the VERY least, you have to make it to techniques IV. I've both ground and sold, and I made MUCH more XP grinding because people just didn't want to buy my lousy D18s. I sold maybe 5 out of 20 guns that I made, and put up about 10 on the bazaar. I knew most players just didn't want to pay even 300 for a crappy gun when they can run a few more missions and pay 8000 for a master crafted one(which is how much I paid for my newest Master-crafted scout blaster).

The path is clear. Our hands are tied. Grind if you want to sell. At the very least, grind up to Tech IV if you want to be able to sell even your lousy Scout blasters. Unless you have a VERY young population on your server (and by young, I mean new, not age-wise), you won't be selling much stuff. The economy and indeed the entire game is pretty top heavy. The only thing that, ironically, may help you, is the fact that many folks will be surrenduring skills in the great holocron grind and may need a low-level weapon. Outside of that, don't expect to subside on your earnings from selling weapons at least until you hit Tech IV.

I dunno, seems like everyone on my server has millions to throw around. the buyout for every server auction is a holocron or two .. which themselves auction at 20 million. Plus now with the introduction of the globally powerful Replublic Blaster it seems that non-combatants dont even have to have novice marksman to dish out some 200 points of damage and what is 15k when they make as much in a few minutes. If they arent a combatant they are probably a crafter in wich case they've either found their niche to make gobs of cash or finding it soon. Now before the republic blasters those scout blasters were widely sought after and I sold a lot of the 76-149/1.9 speed scouts that even techniques 4 couldnt quite attain.

Chimera is a brand new server, granted they wont havea massive influx of cash from Baz Nitch missions like the other servers did but Its still possible to make 40 or 50k in an evening doing missions grouped on dantooine or dathomir. Enjoy it while it lasts but that ability does not hold true for the other 20 servers in use. If your just a novice WS there and that server is practicaly brand new, my best advice is to grind as fast as possible before the min/max mentality sets in. While its good for everyone to see your name out there just remember that weapons made from when you made inferior products stay around a lot longer than you're going to want. You dont want to be disqualified for a sale based on prejudice against a weapon they are looking at that you made as a novice. On most release-day servers we see maybe 4 or 5 new accounts a day in the entire galaxy if that many. It only takes a new marksman 3 days of fighting before he is ready for something you cant make till you hit master.

Its great that you want to provice weapons to all class of players, just keep in mind that all players tend to migrate into just 2 classes, those that are masteriing a combat profession (even if its in conjunction with their crafting profession), and those that dont even keep novice marksman. For the latter you can make really good republic blasters. Unless your an architect or tailer whose resources for everything you need can be found within a 2km radius of a starter-planet city, then even a crafter is going to have to find good hardware just to empty his harvesters

One thing you can make the heck out of and sell as a novice is WUK's and survival knives so smugglers can grind the slicing tree and it can be enough income to pay for your harvesters.

As I've stated before, I _am_ on a young (new) server. (But I have been playing for several months on Eclipse)

I understand that as time goes on I'm going to have to be making some quite special weapons if I want to make a living out of being a WS. I've already been asked if I can make a Scatter Pistol, so I obviously need to work a bit harder to fulfill an emerging market. But its still just that - emerging.
If I can sell even 1/4 of the items I've crafted, then I'm happy - this is a crafting class after all.

Thinking from a different angle, if some of the higher level existing weapons were not unlocked until reasonable way up some of the Elite professions, there would be more of a market for the lower level items, since you need 100's of 0000's of XP to get a single skill box in something like Pistoleer. This might also give more of a reward for those professions.

Osse.
