If you slice a 965 FWG5 it will drop the max damage down to 935 but may raise the minimum. I would use a critical slice. Even though you have a critical shot a critical slice is worth it because, then you have a chance with every shot.
It will not let you damage slice it at all once its past either the slicing or crafting cap.
If you haven't reached the crafting cap like with this weapon, it will let you slice it. It will just drop the max down the slicing limit which I have done. Other Smugglers have seen this as well.

Yes i made a few guns at 935 damage and sliced a damage on them and it only increased the minimum damage, but i think a Capped gun has more minimum damage than a gun that is at the slicing cap with a damage slice on the minimum damage
