Thread: The exploit/bug of uber weapons/components is spreading.
Just a few days ago someone posted in another forum publicly the "how to become invisible exploit" - involving redeeding a house then becoming invisible.
The next day that bug was fixed.
Hmmm........
Put it this way, there was enough posts to warrant at least 2 posts by the Developers, and NOT the CSRs (they obviously don't know anything about crafting.) The invisible bug was most likely easier to crush then this one I suppose.

Once you have a repeatable recipe for cauing a bug to happen it becomes pretty easy for any compentent software engineer to fix it. You just run a copy of the program which was compiled with the debugging hooks in it, in the debugger. You can then step through the code one instruction at a time while watching the contents of all of the variables change. It then becomes pretty easy to see when one of the variables changes in an unexpected or unintended manner.
The bugs that are tricky to find are the ones that don't have a good recipe for a coder to follow when they are trying to fix it. I have worked on a lot of software projects and I have never seen a bug (internal to the program) that took weeks to fix after it was caught in the debugger.
If the bug can't be reliably reproduced then that is a different matter but if the recipe that was given to Taurin can make the bug happen a significant precentage of the time then there aren't any good technical reasons why it is taking so long to fix.
I can't think of other good reasons why this bug would take this long to fix, other than it is prioritized lower than other things that are getting fixed. Now Im not talking about the big patches which have been under development for weeks but rather things like the invisibility bug which are addressed in hot fixes.
Since I work in production management myself, I can make a good guess as to what is going on. They don't think this bug is important enough to hot fix as that would run up their costs (mostly in QA) so they are going to bundle it in with a big patch along with hundreds of other little fixes. They are QA'ing all of these together so they don't have to repeat the QA process for each one or group of them. They have probably made several changes to the crafting system and so they aretesting them all at once.
It is really a question of priority, they just don't feel that the severity of this bug is enough to justify its inclusion in a hot fix. As long as it only affects a few servers and only a few people are using it then this decision is the one I would make if I were a producer or assistant producer on the project. So the bug is probably already fixed in some code but it is in a build that hasn't been released yet and is awaiting other fixes to get finished or for some newly introduced bug (that may have nothing to do with it) that QA found to be addressed.
Unfortunately for us Origins I doubt very much they are going to do anything besides fix the bug, so Bria will remain awash in stockpiled, over-poweredFWGs, SR Combats, Scouts, etc for a long time to come and each additional day that goes by is that many more that get into the world.

So let's see, 2+ identical serial numbered T21, so minimum 20 powerhandlers 1 schematics. Then 10 powerhandlers to make schematics of T21, so what numbers we looking at?
It's worse than inaction. On Scylla server I reported 4 people that had admitted to duping resources and even told me how to do it. They had limitless rare items duped when our server went for 8 weeks without link steel for instance. SOE never even bothered to talk to me about it. They deleted my ticket 3 times without even a word. THEN, the people I reported go after me for speaking up. Not only can they cheaters ruin the economy, but when you speak up for fair play, you just get attacked. I literally got about a dozen emails from players saying they didnt care about the cheating if they could get ridiculous stat weapons cheaply. They even admitted they would just leave the game later when things got out of hand. SOE should make getting rid of exploits job one. It has taken much of the fun out of the game for me to know that cheaters really do prosper. Either a krayt dragon dies every 5 seconds on Scylla or we have the exploit too. It is getting hard to sell any weapons unless they have krayt tissue in them, and it is hard to believe there is THAT much tissue out there.

SOE'smonths long inaction about this issue speaks volumes about the priority they place on fixing exploits and preserving the gameplay value of honest players.
This bug affects every player on every server now as players who aren't using exploited weapons are now at a disadvantage in every aspect of the game with the exception of non-weaponsmith related crafting.
Nice job SOE <not>
The thing about it, is if they did fix the bug, what about those that used the bug and sold weapons, what happens to them? I've heard of investigationis etc... but it already seemed apparent to me that what they did was not a bannable offense, and the end, it just proves that exploiters will always come out on top. It also proves to the rest of the community that those that were caughting doing so by players have been given a "Get out of Jail" card by Sony.
I always thought EQ had strict policies, and that it would be carried forth to SWG, but that doens't seem to be the case. Although I did not play EQ from the start, I did not see bugs/exploits openly used or ever hinted there.

I can't tell till I log in and check Fiku's DX2 in my basement, if they 30 less damage, then it's natural to assume that Sony did do something, but since Fiku unexpectedly went on vacation/school or whatever excuse he chose to use, then we won't know if he's banned.
However, someone may post Vast's weapons and see if that is the similiar case, if so Sony has done something. If Vast is still around for the time being, then it's natural to assumed that Sony will not ban, and fixed the weapons accordingly.
A person on my server is making 215 1.7 fwg5s and 191 1.something scatters unsliced and no krayt parts when normal ones with the best mats are bout 203 2.0 and 176 2.1.Is he using this exploit?
