Thread: How are we expected to equip a WS toolkit? take off BackPack?

I have taken off everything but my backpack, and Istill can't equip my WS toolkit bandolier. I paid a lot for that, and if it means having to find some place for 51 items when I want to use it, then I want my money back.

If the devs think items that use backpack slot are cool, then they think a broken/dysfunctional game mechanic that singles out one professionis cool. And why pick on us WS's? The other crafters get special aprons and other enhanced items, why do we have to deal with this problem?

you cannot wear any bandolier with a backpack...

I'm guessing you had a full inv or close to full, and a full backpack. Take off your backpack and you can wear it.

Ive always thought the Weaponsmith Bando was an extremely good idea implemented in the worst possible way.

I always have between 35-45 items in my main pack. Survey tools, repair tools, crafting tools, crates of components and finished weapons, and a back pack this is almost always full as well, usually with the resources I use everyday. In both my main and secondary packs are items that I NEED. There is nothing I can do without. I dont store items in crafting station hoppers, or droids, or even my house. If I land at XXX starport, and someone needs a weapon, I can make it there, on the spot. Happy me, happy customer.

Now, as you can see, its impossible for me to remove/unequip my back pack to equip the bando, due to the amount of items Im required to carry with me at all times.

Why did Doctors and Chefs et al recieve an apron, that only takes up the jacket slot, and WS are given the toolkit which requires you to remove your backpack?

Really quite stupid. But honestly, do you expect anything else from these people?

Great. There's never room in my inventory, and I can't remember the last time my house had 51 item slots open

Yep. Kinda sucks doesn't it. I have been space chellenged for months and I don't think I had taken off my backpack since August. But I mostly keep harvesters and stim/woundpacks in the pack. I just dropped everything off at the bank so I had enough room to take off the backpack. It means I don't use it every time I craft, just when I have something I need to get right. Don't know what I'll do if I ever get enough skill tapes to get an extra experiment point, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

This is really an issue our representative should rais with the developers. I'm sure they were just thinking "a bandolier for weaponsmiths would be way cooler than a cheesy apron, they'll love it,"
and what they weren't thinking was that at least half the smiths out there are near full capacity with a backpack equiped, and have no room to take off their pack.In my case I keep all my reosurces in my pack, so if I had a tool kit (got the schematic but the city tailor hasn't hit master yet) I'd have to put the pack in the bank, take the resources I need out, equip the kit, do the combines, empty the rest of my inventory in to the bank so I can grab the backpack, equip the bpack, get everything out of the bank ... all I can say is I really, really, really don't want to have to do that. Instead I hope we make enough noise about this for them to adress it and fix it. Possible solutions I see are:

1) Make it a belt. Honestly this is the best I think, since a tool belt is a common RL item, and its what this item should have been originally IMHO.

2) Make the tool kit in toa container. This would be cool because us weaponsmiths could go around wearing our toolkit instead of a backpack like everyone else.

3) Let bandoliers and backpacks both be worn simultaneously. I think this would require significant code changes though, and the only reason to go this way would be if lots of other non-WS people are complaining about not being able to wear their bandoliers with their backpacks.

4) Allow players to equip backpacks from the bank. This wouldn't really fix the problem, but it would save me some of the steps in the above scneario (wouldn't have to move most of my inventory in to my bank in order to grab and equip the backpack).

I don't even know who are representative is or how the whole thing works, but whoever you are could you please mention this to the developers? And everyone else, if this is a relevant issue to you, please speak up!

Thanks everyone for posting. I originally posted in near disbelief, thinking, maybe I'm just doing something wrong, probably just didn't want to believe it after I paid so much. They need to fix all bandoliers anyway, but why make a crafter special item this way? I think the only professions that would everuse a bandolier would be a strictly non-crafting proffesion. And even many of those non-crafters I know of, if they are in a guild, help out with harvesting or collect rares, or other loot. And any veteran player is going to have so many items and travel so much that it would make no sense to give up 50 more inventory so they could look cool in a bandolier. That is why you never see anyone wearing them and the regular bandoliersthat wereartisan made and available since the beginning.

I actually made myself one (long ago) and thought how useless when I discovered it was backpack slot. It's a shame really, the idea is good, the slot is what is wrong. I like the look of it. I don't see why it should be hard to recode the slot for it. It's probably just a number on some database table for equipment. It would be nice if it were moved to the belt slot. I wear a jacket and the bando would look nice over it. Of course with decay in the game I would rarely take it out of the droid or the bank.

Everyone please help raise this issue because if you ever want the Weaponsmith Toolkit, you will want this changed.

I would say make it a wearable container in the backpack slot as many people have already scrimped and saved to build thier 12 point suit around the toolkit.

So you are not in favor of having as much inventory as other trades do, for the sake of the sockets you would loose from your belt or coat? Did you know the toolkit has 4 sockets?

I do my own mining alot, and I do a lot of other things, so having to drop so much inventory to put it on is a show-stopper for me and many others. Do you ever want to craft on the fly from your droid?

Do you really feel the need to keep you backpack equiped while you craft?
