Thread: A Plea to the Community Stop the non-serial Exploit

ByTaurin making this statement, he set a precedent. That it was in fact an exploit (for those that refused to believe it wasn't intended) and that by using it you were risking your account.
But recently non-serial krayt tissues are rumored to be dropping again, stemming from a new piece of code meant to stop the new non-serial issue...
Geonosian cubes.
The new problem is that non-serial components have been obtainable from the geonosian cave since it first went live. In an effort to stop these from coming into the world a new bug was introduced. Many items are now dropping without serial numbers on them. But this isonly temporary in that when you log out or the server resets, serial numbers are finally added to the item. This leaves a window for unscrupulouscrafters to take advantage of in the same manner as the non-serial krayt tissue exploit.
There were two issues with the non-serial krayt tissue exploit that were game breaking. The not-so-obvious one is that people could use a high quality non-serial tissue schematic to improve low quality tissues through the manufacturing process. The obvious was the ability to mass produce krayt level power handlers with the same serial. Circumventing the inherent bottleneck that is supposed to make krayt weapons rare. In particular the weapons that used large amounts of indentical power handlers such as T21's and Jawa Ions.
The latter half of the non-serial krayt tissue exploit has now become an issue concerning non-serial geonosian cubes.
By using these non-serial cubes, some weaponsmiths are able to mass produce items from limited use schematics that should not be mass producable. Some of them do so insisting that they are doing nothing wrong, as noone has come out and set an official stance on the topic.
The non-serial cube problem is the exact same one as the non-serial krayt tissue exploit. Anyone who cannot draw the parallels between the two should step back and try to look at this objectively.
99% of the cubes that have dropped in the past 3 months had serial numbers on them for a reason. Scythe schematics only have 2 uses on them for a reason. Dxr6b schematics call on 2 identical cubes for a reason. It's the same reason why the non-serial krayt tissue exploit was labeled as such. Elite items in this game are supposed to be semi-rare, so they implement a bottleneck somewhere along the line to encourage that. Anything you do to circumvent that is an exploit - Period.
So what I am asking everyone who cares about our profession to do is quite simple. Private message Taurin, Thunderheart, and JustG. Let them know that collectively the weaponsmith community would like the problem to at least be acknowledged. I realize that asking them to actually fix the problem is within reason, but something that takes time. All I would really like to see is a statement about the non-serial geonosian cube issue similar to the non-serial krayt tissue exploit that will set a precendent.Until that statement is made, people can continue to operate under the guise of ignorance.
Lastly, thank you to anyone who read through my ramblings, hopefully you agree with me.

I'm not a WS but when I noticed some tissues had no serials I relogged hoping they would appear. Then I came to check these boards and I read about this mess. By my count I have 54 tissues like this. With a game value of approx 6mil credits. Enough to replace the T21s I used up and make a decent profit for my time.
Now I'm not sure what I should do with them. I can make sure they're not used to make schematics if I give them to a guild WS with instructions on what to make. I guess I can't sell them in the open market because some WS have no scruples.
If I simply had "some" I would just delete them, but I have quite a few of these. Also some heavy leathers I got from some Nightsister Rangers yesterday had no serials. How many loots are the devs expecting us to just delete while this is being resolved? It's rare enough to get these loots and now we're supposed to delete them when they finally do loot? This would put quite a damper on PvE.
I guess I will hold onto these for a week hoping they will finally get serialized after some server restart.
They are used to make schematics in which you can put any of the same item in for the spot. Now, i know that this is an exploit. But what i think would be fine is if you just had a ws use them to make a weapon and NOT a schematic.
I dont know if the DEVs consider it an exploit when they are just used in weapons and not schematics but i would assume that it wouldnt be considered an exploit. Although Im sure if you contacted a CSR and ask them if just useing them in a weapon would be an exploit you would get an answer.
wich means, you can use em as intended, if you wanna make a schem, just relog, or wait til next server reset so you get a serial number.
I believe the devsmay have already solved this problem.Over the weekend I started a scythe for a customer who had brought 2 pretty decent yellow cores. He had just picked up the loot that day. The cores did not have serial nos. as usual. When the crafting window came up the cores DID NOT show in the window. They were not available for use in crafting the scythe. Logged out for dinner and when I returned the cores had serial nos. and I was able to make the scythe for the customer.

Got a response from CSR-ChrisG on this
Unable to copy and paste from a ticket, but I'll quote a few of the highlights:
"..within a very short time, the ability to do so (make schematics from non-serial items) will be removed with a mini-publish."
"Unfortunately, we have not been given authorization to take action against those making such runs, forr which I am extremely sorry for."
I'm hoping that with this mini-publish, that all items created from these schematics go poof. In doing so, the honest Smiths may actually start making some money again.
In doing so, did it also screw up the ones that actually did have serial numbers as in the case that i have?
Or maybe its just that it is not possible to make geo sword cores using yellow power cubes. My cubes all had the exact same serial number.
