Thread: Increase in Exceptional Weapon drops, is SOE Phaseing us out??

The rate on the trade forums for these weapons that couldn't be crafted if tried is increasing weekly. I have been here since beta as a weaponsmith and find it very troubling the direction that SOE is moving our profession. I always thought it great thinking of this game to have loot drops to make our normal weapons to surpass normal to great by putting in special components. It gave the adventurer something good to find, and the crafter important to assemble it for them.

Now with every new patch this game wants WS to strap a gun on and get involved. The geo caves made it bad enough that you "had" to get a loot drop item so you can even craft a basic item. Now if you want to craft, you have to take your 40mil uniform into a cave that you have no chance of surviving in without a bunch of ppl protecting your butt.. I understand the need to make the adventurer find good loot, but it needs to balance out with what crafters are here for also.

Right now you can goto the vette and loot weapons that equal alot of WS quality weapons(unless you have the best resources).. DXR6 that drop that do ton of damage. I have people in my guild bringing me looted weapons they cant use, and give em to me to sell. They are nearly equal or better in some cases.

The move from crafters being able to craft eveeerything. To a "limited" number is troubling to me. We should be able to craft all these items, BUT only the best of them will be crafted with special loot drops that increase the weapons aspects.

I have seen quite a few exceptional items posted on just the Chilastra trade forums lately. I remember way back when even finding one seemed like a 1 in a million chance. I personally dont sell many loot component weapons except the genocian dxr6b rifles, as the schem is easy to get and made with white cubes and +12 exp points they come out quite nice usually. As for the rest I make the customer find all the parts and I charge a small assembly fee. Typically that fee really isn't worth my time, but I like to provide a service that keeps people coming back to me.

I can see it now. A squad of fully buffed weapon and armor smiths in full composite hunting giant sand dune kimogila armed with CDEFs and C12 grenades... all because someone had to have some RIS armor.

THe amount of these dropping compared to the number of weapons sales a day is maybe 1 in 500. These exceptional weapons almost always have terrible condition, so they will only be used every so often. I doubt a couple extra Exceptional weapons is going to hurt any of our businesses.

I've seen a lot more exceptional krayt drops recently, and they need WS's to make those weapons.

That isn't the point... The point is SOE outright lied.. Nothing we can do about it now though, except post our concerns. It is too late now to ever fix it in my opinion.

People need to stop phrasing a companies actions as lies.

Developing a game isnt easy, it is full of thousnads of various checks and balances. Sometimes they ahve to swey form the original intent because of other factors. Noone ever sets out to upset a portion of the players, but it is going to happen because of the numerous types of personalities that play these games. If someone says something, and changes what they said, it happened for a reason, and that reason never has to be revealed to the public.

You may not like what happened by a few Uber drops, but they are so miniscule they don't affect my business at all, and I can assure you they don't affect other WS's business on Valcyn, and we have our fair share of uber loot weapons.

And I dont ever rememebr reading Thunderheart or some other official SOE Cronie saying that Uber Loot wont happen, but I do remember them saying that it is going to be a rare occurance, and it has been very rare. The exception weapons that are worth using are extremly rare.

My opinion isnt a popular one, so I dont expect anyone to agree with me. Thing is I have experience in the gaming industry when I did stuff for Mythic, Artifact Entertainment, NCSoft and CCP, I have established very good contacts within those companies, and I know each of them when ever they make a fragile decision and announce it, they expect people to cancel, they expect people to outroar, but they have to stick to their guns, because most of the time the decision was for the good of the game, and on that rare occurance when the player was right about a change, they will suck it up and revert and apologize in my experience.

It's ok to be upset about this, but it isnt killing weaponsmiths, I still make 40-100 sales a day, I sitll get requests ot make krayt weapons, and I still do maybe 5-10 repairs daily. This has been consistant even with these exceptional weapons.

I wouldn't say that its going to "hurt" my sales, I'm not worried about that. It is the principal of the matter that bugs me. I cant "quote" exactly where it was said, whether a dev chat or feature listing, but it was said that the best weapons would be player crafted.

I don't worry about my sales being hurt or losing customers to the "super loot weapons." Money isn't the issue, they make me angry/aggrevated for other reasons. We work hard to make the best weapons possible, and SOE turns around and starts handing out weapons that I could never even dream of matching.

To me it's like I'm sitting there crafting and suddenly an ancient krayt dragon pops out of my crafting station as a pet I can use.CH's can't complain because it only happened 1 out of 10000 times I craft (using the same logic that justifies the super weapon loot). Sound ludicrous? I agree.

I find it a bit insulting to the hard work of crafters to have the legendary weapons. I normally don't complain because fighter types do need some decent loot to look forward to. But I have noticed that they are getting more and more common. I have easily seen (on trade forums) 3 times more of them in the past month than every other month since launch put together. Frankly I feel they really dropped the ball with the loot. Instead of stepping on our toes handing out weapons (regardless of the frequency) they could have done a number of cooler and more creative things. Gee one simple thing would have been to loot items that put DOTs on a weapon. Kind of like a power-up, you can use the looted DOT for say 1000 uses then it's gone. That would be very preferable to just dropping DOT weapons like they do.... and you know that DOT "p-ups" would be very popular. (If making the artisans made is a factor they could let you put both that and an artisan made one on a weapon, but that would take more work). Now I know that idea isn't perfect, but it is just one idea that I though up in a few minutes.... I'm sure there are plenty of other things which could be done besides looted weapons.

Besides, why are weapons different thanother crafting professions when it comes to loot? How many houses, crafting stations, harvesters, armor, clothing, food, droids, or tools do you see being looted? A small amount of clothing but other than that that's it.

Looted weapons, looted schematics, looted components, are all violations of the original intent of the game. Crafters make the stuff, If people want loot, thats fine. Have enhance stuff, like Krayt tissue or that one guys idea about a poison powerup, etc. Finding exceptional weapons turned the game into EQ and finding schematics turns us into crafting monkeys.

Gah...I think you guys fail to realize most ppl look forward to loot. Woot, I'll do the Geo Cave. 30 minutes later, yay all done and said..no badge though, but at least I GOT LOOT ! Same goes for the Corvette and the DWB (aka Ghost Town). Alot of ppl play these MMOs to find loot and have cool stuff in their inventory/house. Why would I log onto day in day out if I'm gonna be like normal joe and have normal weapons ?

On another note, expect DOT weapons to get hit hard with the Combat Rebalance. They have been dropping more lately, but I think it's because 1 light bulb clicked "on" at SOE headquarters and realized DOTs were the only thing able to efficiently kill armored/buffed opponents. Once balance is restored, DOTs will be too good and will be nerfed.
