Thread: New weapons: art department lacking originality or what?
I mean, damn, they could've at least made an attempt at covering up the original designs. What am I talking about, you ask? Take a look:
Seems like either a.) sci-fi firearms aren't the art team's forte (e.g., the joke of a weapon known as the Massassi ink rifle, or the ridiculously unbalanced looking new heavy weapons the commandos get) or b.) this is another case of them not being given enough time to get the job done right.

The Alliance Needler Carbine
Needler Carbine
seems to look alot like the back end of a Steyr Aug
Steyr Aug
The DE10 is hardly an original design but I wont go into that.
Before someone says it again, yes the film weapons were all made from real weapons but thats because they had a budget and had to make actual physical props, the art designers dont have this problem. Im not really complaining about the new stuff but some of the new stuff doesnt look very "Star Warsy"
Pyrewolf wrote:Now that you mention it, I think you're right. The more I look at the needler carbine, the more it looks like it is in fact based on the AUG. Telltale giveaways are the grip (note the trigger) and the contour running down the middle of the stock. Strip off the scope, hand guard, fore grip and magazine of the AUG and there's your Alliance Needler.
Exactly what I was thinking. Ive also had people tell me the Laser Rifle is a SPAS12, I can see why they say it but I dont really think it is.

Not based on the L96? Are you looking at the same pictures as me? Look at the middle pic on that page - the screws, the groove below the barrel, even the cutout above the magazine well (even though the LD-1 has no magazine) are all identical. The only major difference is the shape of the buttstock, in particular the thumbhole presentin the real version. Subtract the scope, add a funky thing on the bottom, flip the barrel sight upside-down (lot of good it'll do then...) and you have the LD-1. I don't see how it can not be based on the L96/AWP.

Hey, at least your new stuffs don't look like something from the worst movie ever made... The Mystery of Monster Island.
