Thread: Galaxy-wide vendor search: Retarded

When I decided I go for my 12-points and FS-crafter skills, I had to sit an decide upon a business model. I always found factory runs very boring and opted to specialize in hand-crafted enhanced and special weapons/custom orders, as my skills would supplement this nicely and these offered the most creativity and variability in in making.

I also spent many hours designing a nomenclature for my weapons: enhanced weapons would begin with Gx followed by a number (dependant on the weapon) and a somewhat altered name

ex. Gx-555/s2 Assault Scatter Pistol or the Gx-Tenloss DXR6b Reinforced Disruptor

Krayted weapons got the Pulse designation ex. Gx-800 Heavy Pulse Laser Rifle

Nym VKs: Mono-molecular Vibro Knuckler or Shikar-Class

And special item like Scythes always got a unique name

Now I am going to have to name everything their standard way with stats listed. How very very very boring. I'll try it my way for a while, but I think most will just vendor search look for max damage in name and buy.

But wouldn't you rather wield a DE-10 named "Inquisitorial Synod" rather the DE-10 100-350? or a geo- stun baton named "Imperial Crowd Control" instead of Geo-Stun Baton <stats>

This is the most loathesome thing I have yet to see added to this game, and it's crafting (by hand mind you too) that ultimately keeps me playing. Retarded, very retarded

(I also enjoyed spending hours cruising vendors and shops looking for needed/wanted good)

With the huge volume of items on the bazaar people will prolly end up going to the normal shops rather than trawling through 000s of items. I name everything like you, random names though I don't use Mono-Molecular etc, something like Desparate Inference

We'll see what happens.

  • Each vendor owner can decide whether to allow his or her vendors to be searchable in the market. There is an option for vendor owners to turn on/off the search option on his or her vendor. The vendor owner will be able to find current search option settings for each of his or her vendor(s)
  • When a vendor owner turns on the search option, a player should be able to go to any bazaarand list all items owned by this vendor
  • When a vendor owner turns off the search option, the vendor is no longer listed in the galaxy-wide network search. With this search option turned off, vendor owners have the ability to conduct private auctions. Players will need to physically go to the vendor and click "Use Vendor" to list items from this vendor.

If they would have implemented this the way it is worded that would be really nice. I guess they just don't see it that way though and chose their wording very poorly. If they would have done it this way instead of the way it is comeing out it would save a lot of hassel and time going from planet to planet, city to city, vendor to vendor just to find them empty. Now you can just stand in one spot and spend the same amount of time looking through zillions of items, page after page.

My alt on Valcyn is an Architect that ran a very profitable business for about half a year before I went back to my commando on chilastra, currently im grinding up WS on that alt to get a feel for how commando weapons are/will be made pre/post CU(a WS-Architect-Merchant craft-plate).

I found when I ran a shop, once people discovered that you were a good crafter who did quality work, had good customer service, and completes the orders on time....your reputation tends to spread by word of mouth rapidly.

Just what Im getting at here, is you may very well see the opposite - where people who recognize your specific names will go to you first, over the generically named or stat named weapons...especially if you make quality weapons and are a favorite with customers.

So who knows? The new search options are going to be interesting in how they pan out on live...you may very well see more reputation and people going to your uniquely named weapons first.

Could you explain what "maded" is?

Oh grats on becoming correspondent. I used to be a commando and accidentally clicked on my bookmark to the commando forums and freaked out when Garvin's name was dark blue

My prediction is that many people won't use the system since it's just too damn hard to find a specific item of high quality. At least if you go to someone who you know to be a good ws's shop you know you'll get top notch stuff however the stuff on the bazaar is likely to be junk.

hey i sell quality Dlt 20s D18s and D17s on the bazaar , what this means is i can now sell them from my vendor without restocking the bazaar twice a day . I think this will help with high volume low proffit sales items .

Nick does good work. =) With luck, he and I will be able to bring some sanity to the munitions crafting line.

I'm not a big fan of the global vendor search function, but the Merchant community has pretty well been ignored on this one. Dunno what else to say.

Maded = Commando Slang for Made... (Its corrected...)

This I can potentially see being one of the biggest pains in the arse with the new system...a Bazaar UI revamp of sorts (where you could have sortingsearches by vendor owners, or vendor names etc...)

Reputable weaponsmiths with named weapons (as I mentioned earlier) may help, but having literally hundreds upon hundreds of pages to sort through if you're just browsing will bite this new search feature in the butt. I haven't really tried it out yet (been grinding WS all day!), but if its like that with even specific catagory searches...then bah, I may just have to agree with this thread's title.

But, I swear, that'll be the least of the devs' worries if Commando weapons are still just despicable to craft! Hopefully by getting familiar with the weapon crafting system as it is now, I can be of some help if that issue if it still needs addressing Post-CU. (and I must admit...Ive always had a secret desire in being a weaponsmith... )

And thanks - Ive been the commando corr for a bit over a month now

And of course they did this but did not even fix the carrying over bug of the bazaar. i mean half the page carries over when you change pages. WHY NOT FIX THE CRAP THAT IS BROKEN

Oh and i think you will still be in business, i look for named weapons they seem to be of better quality. I also look for price, if something is more expensive i take a look, and useally find what i am looking for. But overall it is good for looking for things that there are not alot of, like armor components. there is like 5 pages galaxey wide. But when you want something like weapons or armor or clothing!!!!!! the pages will go on and on. Over all i think it is good and bad. I mean it just destroyed the merchant profession. I am a master but will deff. drop it, there is no need. alls you need is 1 vendor. oh well maybe they will make the merchant profession like the politician prof. free of points.

Overall thought on the upgrade

FIX THE BUGS BEFORE YOU UPGRADE...jacka$$es

I think people will have great fun trying to find crates of c12 grenades sprinkled randomly among the 21,240 factory crates currently listed on my server...

The way it stands right now it is too difficult to find anything to be of any real use. I was able to find some ultra-high SR steel for just 2 CPU, but it took me two hours to find it on the globalvendor search. If the combat oriented players are too lazy to shop under the old system, I don't see this as being any improvement for them. To me it seems like they screwed up the merchant profession for no actual benefit to anyone.

I give custom weapons that are for specific people, special names. But if I'm just selling on my vendor, people will just have to settle for "Krayt enhanced T21 Rifle 6.7 spd, 175-501 dmg - Smithed by Ritha"
