So I woke up a couple days ago and decided I wanted to be a Weaponsmith. So I did the grind for 2 days straight, depriving myself of food, sleep, and basic hygine, and this afternoon I made Master Weaponsmith.

I decided my first task would be to make an UBER flamethrower, given that my alt is a master commando. At first it looked like it was going to be easy. I went out and shopped for resources, and thought I got all I needed. But then when reading further into the Weaponsmith forums (something I never did before, something I probably should have done earlier) I found out that the "optional" components don't have to be their exact name sake, they can be the "advanced" models as well. For the Flamethrower, that would mean Advanced Stock, and Advanced Blaster Power Handlers.

Now there's a lot of difference in the resources required for normal Rifle Stocks / Blaster Power Handlers and their Advanced coutner parts. So my question is... Are there any good sources out there to make it easier for us Weaponsmiths to track down the resources we need? Both resources that we can harvest our selves, and maybe even some kind of database of resources people are selling?

Thanks

Don't jump into WS light hearted. It requires a VAST VAST amount of varied resources to produce items.

I don't even want to get started talking about the resource stat variations required on top of the VAST VAST resource types required!!

Stand in Front of a Crafting station and open different items so you can see the resource requirements and the stats needed in those resources. After a few hours, I hope you enjoy your grind to a new proffesion!! lol

Indeed. This is one of the more frustrating AND one of the more intriguing aspects of being a Weaponsmith. Constantly monitoring the current resource spawns, keeping track of what you currently have vs. what is newly available, managing lots for harvesters, and finally producing the best weapons around - that's what makes Weaponsmithing so satisfying to me.

It took me a good six to eight months of careful resource collecting before I was able to compete with the other Kauri weaponsmiths in terms of quality on most weaons. And I still can't make a top-notch FWG5 after being at it for over a year.

I consider this a good thing.

Master Weaponsmith.... 2 days
11pt WS ..... 5mil
12pt WS .... 20mil
True WS with good resources..... lots

Crafting 354 max jawas that get sliced to 417? Priceless!!!

Yeah, 10pt ws with good resources > 12pt ws with crap resources. Grinding to MWS is about 1/10th the grind to be a good ws. Its a long long road

I cannot repeat this enough do not buy the resources. They almost always cost more then they are worth. In other words its cheaper to buy from a player then to make yourself.

That being said most weaponsmiths will not sell their good stuff.

Your not going to just craft a uber flamethrower. It aint going to happen that takes months of hard work.

This is not one of those professions that you can just buy your way into. You actually must dedicate yourself to the craft. You must actually take time and learn the ropes.

In my mind there is a holy trinity in SWG profession wise three professions that are the absolute hardest pains in the rear end.

JEDI

BH

WEAPONSMITH.

Mastering each of these professions takes a serious degree of dedication to master. Do not get me wrong it can be immensely rewarding, but to get there you gots to pay the dues. You got to suffer, and stress and let them consume you.

If your not getting off the pc, and finding yourself thinking about resources. Calculateing harvester yeilds. Haveing nightmares about missing a spawn of doonium. If you arent getting guilt ridden over ignoreing a great polonium spawn in order to mine abph resources your never going to make a true uber.

Your lucky when I started my ws toon. I spent weeks desperately looking for siliclastic ore. Only to finally find it here and there with non weaponsmith stats. The flamer is actually childsplay.

Yeah, I did come into WS kind of blind. But I'm going to stick with it. I had millions of units of resources before I became a master weaponsmith, but none that were very good. So now I'm working at building up my resource base. In a month or two I imagine I'll have a good stockpile of the bare necessities. I'm looking forward to it, it seems like this could be fun.

Sounds like you are in it for the long haul.

Don't get upset over us trying to talk you out of it. We see sooooooo many WS hopefuls posting about making it and how they will rule the economy and a week later give up.

Tips:

  1. Download Fooman's Tool to help you track resources.

  2. Start planning how many Factories you will need and the lots to place them.

  3. Read all the tips on making weapons.

  4. Don't make any Scythe's, Hacks, Berserkersor unique weapons until you've made One Thousand normal weapons! You don't want to waste the special resources or schematics.

  5. Get a spot in a high traffic mall or area.

  6. Master Merchant to get planetary map options.

  7. "Storage" It will become the bane of your existance! I have a Storage Vendor, 3 houses and factories. Still have trouble keeping up with everything. I loose suff all the time!! lol

  8. Be prepared for the "Questions you never ask a Weaponsmith."

i believe tho after a while, you will pretty much cap out and really not need to worry about resources if you manage them right. case and point, after every single resource u have is say, 950+ oq, then theres really not much room for improvement. take doc for instance, 999 oq avian meat with 500 pe will make a big difference compared to say 950 with 500 pe. when making say, abph, 950 oq polymer isnt much, if any worse, than 999 oq stuff. i guess the biggest point is to know what u have, know what you need, and know what the 3 or 4 best to ever spawn are of the given resource.

Another tip... Specialize. Find something that you can make well with the resources you have, and start with those. In my experience, selling a limited line of great weapons (ie. swords, grenades, vibro weapons,blasters...) from an aptly named vendor is better for your reputation than being just another full service weaponsmith whohas a full line of crap hiding their gems. Once you have a limited high quality line, slowly expand your wares, keeping aclose eye on quality.

Speciializing will also make it easier to choose which resource spawns to drop a harvy on, which ones to jump on with both feet, and which ones to let pass by.

If you're loaded..................Go Shopping!

If you're not loaded, just keep harvesting your own resources and when a better spawn of a resource appears, harvest it, sell your old stocks, and keep upgrading. Eventually you'll have a good supply of quality resources, a good knowledge of which resources have which stats, which resoucres are more valuable to your craft, and you'll have enough money to upgrade resources via shopping and depend less and less on harvesting your own. it takes time, but I think your timing is great. looks like a whole new set of weapons and weapon changes will occur with the CU, so you have some time to gear up.

Good luck!
