To make it easier for my customers to find what they're looking for, I usually leave the name the same, however I do add my signature <DGE> to the end of it. If it's an enhanced weapon (Nym VK, fwg5, that sort of stuff) I'll add a SE (Special Edition) after the common name and before the <DGE> tag e.g. Vibroknuckler SE <DGE>.
However, for those really enhanced weapons, I'll add the enhancing name before the common name and add "by Dawin" to the end rather than the signature tag e.g. Acklay Stun Baton by Dawin.
Speaking from personal experience, naming your wares some cutesy name like "Katana Blade of Death" for a 2H curved sword makes it difficult for your customers to find what they're looking for. I also recommend putting any signature type tags at the end of the weapon name rather than the beginning. It makes it easier to search your vendor when sorted alphabetically.

I use the standard names and just put my tag =Upde= at the start
for krayt / geo / acklay i put *acklay* etc after my tag and before the weapon name e.g =Upde= *Acklay* Stun Baton
I do also make a selection of RP style weapons
these are the
=Upde= DL44Pistol - Han Solo Edition
=Upde= Striker Pistol - Princess Leia Edition
=Upde= Laser Riffle - Rebel Sniper Edition
=Upde= Laser Carbine - Rebel Light Infantry Edition
=Upde = EE3 Carbine - Boba Fett Edition
=Upde= E11 Enhanced Carbine - Imperial army standard firearm
these are all hand made so the user can see the custom muzzles, scopes and stocks were appropriate. These guns got those names as they actually look like the weapons from the film. e.g the striker pistol looks like the gun Leia uses to shoot a stormie on the corvette at the start of EP4. The EE3 carb goes without saying and the laser riffles and carbs look like the rebel weapons used during the battle of Hoth. The E11 is of course the weapon of choice for any good stormie.

All my weapons have company brand in front and then the name will follow.
For regular weapons I add stats:
GSX Vibro Knuckler 47-148, 2.2
For presliced weapons
GSX *SLICED* Vibro Knuckler
Loot made gets additionaly marked between company brand and weapon type
GSX Powered Vibro Knuckler (thats the Nyms damage motor for example)
For loot made stuff that has variable stats like krayt or gorax tissues, I used to add stats, but lately decided to develop grades which Im using to classify loot component quality - for example base tissue (+30) is grade D, anything up to 50 is grade C etc. So:
GSX Krayt T21 Rifle, grade D

All my weapons get the FelKel brand up front. Then any sort of qualifier: Advanced (made with all advanced components), Heavy (stocked), Krayt, Acklay, Gorax, etc. Then the name, then the stats -- damage, speed, and HAM. No one cares about HAM right now, but I put it on simply because I always have (I'm a creature of habit). So, for example:
FelKel Advanced Vibroknuckler, 38-148 Dmg 2.2 Spd 31-46-31 HAM
FelKel Heavy T21, 176-411 Dmg 7.4 Spd 65-59-98 HAM
FelKel Acklay Stun Baton
FelKel Krayt Scatter Pistol
Etc.

All Hell's Elite Legions guild made products are stamped with
[HELGUILD] *name of product here*
all products are reviewed by the master crafter of our guild to make sure it is of high quality. This way anyone who buys a product food, weapons, armor knows it's of good quality..

Yeah I just put 'OobikTEK X.Xsp [XXX-XXX] Gun name here'
Example: OobikTEK 2.1sp [64-177] FWG5
Nice for the customer, they don't have to examine to see the stats, unless the HAM or some other stat is very important they need to see.
I just really wish they would give us back the ability to use the hex codes to color the text again.

I dont like changing the actual item name but I use some terminology to specify if
the weapon was made with some special components, ie:
Featherweight FWG5 {HV/HC} -Lendyl-
This means it was assembled using a High Velocity feed mechanism and a High Caliber projectile
pistol barrel.
I think it just looks cool too...
