Thread: Proof that the players DO NOT know what they want
LOL, there I said what every skilled smith is thinking today.
I have yet to make a weapons today that isnt better than what I made yesterday. Finally a way to distinguish the skilled veteren WS's from the masses of macroing holo-smiths.
As Raph Koster once said, "The players don't know what they want." He is proven right yet again.

If Testcenter was working (i.e. would reflect the situation on the live server appropriately), noone would be suprised about the results now. And if the devs would have given us some hard data, formula and examples as we asked them, instead of that 'fix the economy' bull**edit**, it would not have been a suprise either.
However, there is more. First of all, only some professions get better results. Ask a BE or a doctor. I don't think they are happy. Second, the complains were not only about item quality. They were also about diversity among smiths, about resource dependance, about new smith, about being required to have 12 experimentation tapes. No, the changes are not only better. For you maybe, if you are only looking at one stat. But some people actually saw the bigger picture.

Masters with tapes, and the best non-gated resources = slightly better; everyone else = very noticeably lacking. That's bad for the economy, as it encourages inflation and monopolies (or at least very limited competition).
When I looked at it the "petition" to stop the changes was over 15 pages long. I read the first page and was quickly reminded why I, and 90% of the game, don't follow the Whineplay boards.
I may be in the minority on this board, in fact I'm sure I am, but the silent majority that doesnt follow the boards is most likely happy with the change. In attacking the change you are championing mediocrity, nothing else. In the big picture view that the devs take the economy is broken, everyone makes the same thing, thats boring for the crafters and boring for the customers.
Heaven forbid that a smith who has been at it for 6 months and has the resources, tapes, and experience should make a better product than someone who hit master a few weeks ago! *gasp* Silly devs, what were they thinking!

Gnosis, are you an ignorant buffoon?A smith who's been at crafting for six months, with tapes and with the best resources is still better than someone who's been at it for only a few weeks. If you actually knew what the hell you were talking about, you might have already known that.
And who the hell are you to claim you speak for the 'silent' crafters? If 90% of the smiths on the forums opposed these changes, then sure as hell about the same percentage of 'silent' smiths oppose them too. It's called statistics, you may learn about it some day.
The small minority who actually like the changeshave never givenvalid facts for why the changes are better, while those who oppose the changes have given innumerable facts for why the changes are bad and won't do what the devs claim they'll do. Instead of calling the rest of us whiners with an air of mock superiority, why don't you spell out why you think the changes are better?

Slim Vargo, Corbantis
Well let's see here. Gnosis just made a 416 damage T21 on Wanderhome when the previous high was 404.
I think the majority of players would prefer 416 damage over 404, don't you?

I would consider my self a Skilled WS, I chose to be a pure crafter by choice not because I was told to be.
I have been a MWS for many months, I've made a very good business for my self.
I have 10 Exp Points to use. If those with the extra 2 Exp points don’t mind, un-equip your items that have the tapes in them.
Craft something. You won't like the turn out and instantly put your +2 point gear back on.
I have always used the highest quality minerals I found over my last 6 months. Without the +2 Exp points me and other pure crafters will never be able to even come close to those that have the +2 extra Exp.
This is not a matter of whom has the better minerals, but more so whom was able to find skill tapes.
Thankfully the Developers understand this and are hot fixing it.

Not every smith, new or old, has the opportunity to obtain skill tapes. Unfortunately, hitting the six-month marker doesn't automatically mean you have a +20 experimentation skill tape appear in your inventory.
I'd go as far to say hologrinderscan acquire tapes just as easily, if not easier thannon-hologrinders. Why? Most hologrinders have done a lot more combat and have a lot more access to tapes. They have a wider assortment of more valuable tapes to trade, whereas Weaponsmiths are stuck fighting tooth-and-nail through bad auctions, merchants who sell out from under you, bid sniping and ridiculous auction times. I was one of the first Master Weaponsmiths on my server and it was still several months before I finally managed to get +20 experimentation. I had plenty of money, but dashing home at 6PM on whatever day toread the boards and win the auctionwasn't always an option.
Moreover, not everyone is not a powergamer. There are casual smiths who've been around as long as I have, who are just as knowledgable and experienced, who have even less time and money to fight over auctions.
And most importantly, Weaponsmiths have adapted to this system for nine months, a system in which skill tapes were not a prerequisite. They were never given any indication that skill tapes would become a prerequisite. It's unfair to suddenly throw this on them now and put such a high demand on an extremely scarce supply. Simply put, there aren't enough tapes on every server to equip every Master Weaponsmith and I pity those smiths who would be stuck in that situation.
Skill tapes have nothing to do with notoriety and experience. Skill tapes are simply based on who has the most money and luck, neither of which are Weaponsmith-only.
