I'm considering making a new Weaponsmith toon and am curious about a few things maybe someone could answer.

1) Do artisan assembly/experimentation points factor into making weapons? I.E. Should i get Master Artisan?

2) Does the Human bonus to Experimentation apply to weapons? If not, how are Rodians/MonCal?

It's not necessary that your master artisan for weaponsmithing. There are some components that you can make as a master, but they only affect things like PA halls and repair tools. As far as experimentation, you can experiment on th CDEF weapons, but when you start making D18's that goes away. The best race for weaponsmithing are Zabrak's because they get a bonus to weaponsmithing, but it equates out to one experimentation point, so not a huge deal.

huh? I have a Zabrak toon now and he has no bonuses to any type of crafting... I'm confused.

I know Human is Artisan Experimentation +15

MonCalamari and Rodian are both +10 Weapon Assembly

Only Rodians and Mon Calamari get any bonuses related to weaponsmithing, and that's +10 to weapon assembly. This does not affect experimenation points. The +10 to weapon assembly gives you a slightly better chance to put a weapon together without getting a critical failure (and a better chance to get an amazing success on assembly as opposed to a great success, but in my experiences they result in the same weapon stat bonuses). Generally speaking, Rodians and Mon Calamari's make great races for crafters, but they've only got a very slight advantage that won't have that great of an impact overall. I've seen a lot of weaponsmiths from many different races, and there doesn't appear to be any great advantage to choosing one race over another for weaponsmithing (unless you really want to make bowcasters, in which case you have to be a wookie).

If anyone's got any experiences that differ from this, I would love to hear your perspective.

Huge advantage of a mon calamari crafter is mind never runs out sampling. Max out your actions bar and you can sample for 20 minutes or so non-stop. Also the +10 assembly really does help. If you get a awsome success more then you can save points in the long run to use on eff to lower ham costs. If smith a gets a great success and you get a awsome success they need to use 1 more point to max out that weapon for damage. You have it maxed thus you save 1 point and your weapons have better hams. Assembly can and does = more experimentation points indirectly.

I thought sampling took away from your action pool. Wouldn't that make Rodians with their great stamina better at sampling?

Rodian is the same. They regen action fast but mind drops like a rock. Mon Calamari mind regens fast but action drops. The stats works out better on mon calamari in my research so I picked mon calamari.

Also people have an image of a rodian being a questionable person. Lot of people I talked to in beta said based on the movies they didn't trust rodians too easy. This was also a factor in my picking a mon calamari. Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

Rodians make better samplers, period.

You say you can sample for 20 minutes?

I can sample for 8 hours, and still have both action and mind bars at full... with no macro required.

Just back the action bars in stat migration down about halfway, max out the mind stats, and go to it.

That "nerf" the devs pulled by slowing sampling rates to 25 seconds gives me just enough time to regenerate both pools before the next sample comes.

While I understand this will change somewhat with the next major patch, until then I see no stat-based reason to go with any race other than Rodian for a weaponsmith.

I don't have exact numbers because I'm not at home.

You don't even really need to max all three mind stats, just the Willpower and Focus. Cut down your action pool enough to get those two stats maxed, then tweak from there.

once you have all 10 slots going w/ harvesters it no longer becomes an issue of 'whose race samples better'. Rember John Henry died trying to beat the steam drill :-)
