Well I recently started a weaponsmith, and have been grinding like a crazy man. Yesterday I burned through something like 15,000 pieces of metal to get to intermediate firearms crafting 1. I figured I could maybe sell some rifles and make some cash. Of course I didn't realise exactly how bad those rifles would be - you'd have to be a complete muppet to buy a rifle off me at the moment.
So, no cash, but I figure I need about 20,000 pieces of metal to get to firearms 2 tonight. My personal mines aren't delivering that kind of quantity to me, and I can't afford bigger installation mines.
I've been raising money so far by running crafting missions from Mos Eisley to Anchorhead raising 2600 for each run. But there are only so many more of them I can do before I go mad.
Any advice for ways for me to raise money to get the resources to grind to a level where I can start making real cash?
Oh I'm non-combat by the way, although I'm thinking of training up pistol so I can be a weaponsmith/smuggler later on.
Thanks.

You could try to sell Weapon Upgrade Kits. Qualities do not mater for thoughts. They take 20 metal and 10 chemical, and if you sell them at the cost of the resources you in essence get the xp for making them free of charge.
Good luck with the grind, and do not expect to be able to make good guns when you reach master... Its all in the resources.

Two words: Combat Alt.
Or get a guild to sponsor your grind and pay for weapons in advance.
I did it by also going Master Architect, so I was able to build myself harvesters for minimal cost. The architect grind was almost enjoyable, as I was mostly building stuff I actually used. First small harvesters, then the mediums that were liek BER5 or 6 until I got them up to 10 and started making heavies.
Not too go off on too much ofa tangent, but you will need support. It's not really feasible to start out as Novice Artisan, then work up to Master Weaponsmith by yourself. It can be done, but why suffer?

Well I've got a fairly successful combat alt in a different galaxy - but his cash is there and my poverty is here. Not sure how to get round that one.
Architect is a good idea though, and something I did vaguely consider. Might go for that. Or maybe try to find a sponsor guild, guess it kind of makes sense to support weaponsmiths through the difficult period to reap the lush rewards later.
Thanks for the advice.

Forgot to say, tried weapon powerups as the first money raising scam. I buy them by the truckload with my rifleman, but I just haven't been able to sell them, even though they are pretty decent for the price.

If your alt has a few million creds, you can always post in the trade forums for a cross-server credit swap.

The one thing you really overlooked here is your resources. you have harestors and even though you may not pull in huge amounts of resources, the right resources will bring in some decent cash for until you are able to sustain yourself through other means.

Perhaps now is a good time to start on the pistol skills in parallel with the smithing? You'll get cash from missions which you can use to buy grinding resources, and more importantly you'll be taking time to do the combat training during which your harvesters will be sucking up more of the same.
It's pretty much what I did - managed to get 0100 fairly soon, then ground blaster rifle barrels at the same time as getting some half-way decent rifle skills. By the time I was weaps 0104 I was also marksman 4023 - and then I switched over to being a full-time weaponsmith and hobbyist rifleman... because with 7 experimentaiton points I cannow make weapons people arewilling to spend their hard-earnedcredits on!
I still haven't made novice rifleman-- but I'm having a blast as a WS tho

Yep another good suggestion. At least it will be a change from the artisan crafting missions, and progress me towards smuggler.
I'm thinking maybe I need to focus on architect and pistol skills to get my resource problem sorted out before I continue with weaponsmith.

I don't know much about architect - but aren't you going to end up with the same problem? I.e. needing masses of resources to grind up architect and still not able to produce high-quality harvestors? You'll proably be able to make yourself some BER6 medium harvs pretty quick - but they'll need the increased input of cash and power without doing all that much better than BER4 personal harvesters.
Just a thought!

Architecht takes significantly more resources than Weaponsmith does. I wouldn't suggest architecht unless you already have the harvestors to collect mass resources. Combat is the best way to make extra money. If you get in a large group you can pick up solo rancor missions which pay 38k per mission. Of course you really need to be a master combat profession in order to solo those missions. anyways you can get decnet paying missions that are fairly easy if you like.

I don't know - this is my first time as an artisan profession. But I figure I can grind up to architect installations 2 without too much problem, and then would have access to solar power generator and mineral mining installation. Surely that would help my resource problem out quite a lot?

Just hada look in the architect forum - using their most common grind item (Gungan Head Statue), to get to Installations II you'd need 81750 resources (mixture of generic metal, ore and gemstome). To be fair, it's 5000xp per statue (so it's not exactly like crafting rifle barrels!) - but once you've collected 81750 resources, I still reckon you'd do better to just shoot up the weapon crafting techniques line.
Unless you also want to be an architect, in which case you'd have to do this grind at some stage anyway.
Remember, though - as architect 0120 you're not exactly going to be swimming in experimentation points, so you're not guaranteed to make brilliant mineral mining installations in any case.
