Hello All

I am a new WS and have read all the sticky threads regarding compiled issues etc and have gained a great deal of knowledge which has been a tremendous help to me so far.

However there is soo much info that I do lose the plot a little bit.

Therefore if I may ask this question here, you more experienced and knowledgeable WS can point me in the right direction

The question is what to use advanced and what not to. i.e BPH or ABPH etc for all the ranged and melee weapons.

I have read lots about ABPH not worth it, ADV stocks and scopes not working etc

This may differ on each weapon dependant on what is required but is there a rule of thumb that I should follow to obtain decent speed/damage?

I would really appreciate any guidance here

Many Thanks

Personaly I never uses stocks for anything but unexperimented display weapons (for mounting on walls), The advanced scope experimented for ham is les accurent and heavyer in ham then a non advanced scope experimented for range.... and the non advanced scope can be experimented down to 0 (zero) ham
I do not yet have all the material for ABPH, so do not know about them, but my advanced BRB and BPB are better then the non advanced, despite the lousy plumbun iron I have.

Basically use advanced for every build. Always use ADV Power Handlers and Barrells...As far as Stocks and scopes go they are extras...I keep about 10 to 15 cases of each on hand for special orders...and I usually put a variety of stocked...scoped...and stocked/scoped weps on my vendor so people have a variety to choose from...The drawback on stocks and scopes is the increased HAM...However it depends on what the customer wants...Most of my customers that buy T-21's want them stocked...They like the increased damage...However if the customer spams specialls they will buy the unstocked model (even though it looks goofy) heh heh.

Long time Weaponsmith here, so I'll tell you what I've found to be worth it in the advanced vs. regular components. Watch for high quality resources for the following advanced components.

1) Advanced Blaster Power Handler - with good resources, these are just shy of being just as fast as the regular power handlers with a nice increase to the min/max dmg, so in most cases your DPS will be higher using these. Some smiths believe that in high damage heavy weapons it is better to use regular power handlers, but I use advanced ones across the board where schematics call for it.

2) Advanced Projectile Feed Mechanism - Similar to power handlers .. almost as fast as regular feed mechanisms but with much better min/max dmg meaning faster DPS in most cases, especially since these are almost 90% used in pistols, where the min/max overall damage of the pistol is low enough that the extra damage you get from the advanced outweighs the very minor decrease in speed.

3) Advanced Projectile Pistol Barrel - With good resources, these far outstrip the regular projectile pistol barrels in both damage and speed. Definitely a better choice all around as far as I've seen.

4) Advanced Weapon Scope - I have good enough resources on these now that I can experiment them down to 1/1/1 HAMs .. until you can find really good resources for these, regular weapon scopes are probably better, but with a scope HAM experimented down to 0/0/0, you get very little extra accuracy/wound chance, so these probably tend to be more of an added option for your customers well versed in combat who really know what they want in a gun.

5) Advanced Vibro Blade Unit - Higher min/max dmg, but lower speed than the regular blade vibro units, but they are slightly better in overall damage per second in most cases. I use these exclusively except in my Vibroknucklers made specifically for people working up the Unarmed tree of Brawler where the damage is cancelled out by not having the certification. For them, speed is everything, so I use the basic ones and throw in a speed reducing vibro motor where available.

6) Advanced Sword Core - Better overall damage per second than basic, and it isn't tough to find decent stats on the resources these use.

7) Advanced Reinforcement Core - Same as the advanced sword core.

I've found that with the gated properties of materials used in Advanced Blaster Pistol and Rifle Barrels, the damage per second does not make it worth it for me to use these. Some weaponsmiths willprobably disagree with me here andcome up with good examples where an advanced blaster pistol barrel is better than a regular blaster pistol barrel, but in my playing around with them, I've just not found them to be worth it.

I never use Stocks or Advanced Stocks as they have incredibly high HAMs and slow a weapon down alot. For the most part, all they do is make a gun look cool, and to top it offthey only work on fully handcrafted guns, not factory produced guns. (If you decide to add either stocks OR scopes to a gun for visual effect, make sure you handcraft the gun and even pull the optional component out ofa factory crate if factory producedbefore you add it to the schematic or it will not visually appear)

I think that covers most of the weapon components. I didn't mention Projectile Rifle Barrels because I rarely if ever make a Tusken rifle, but they may be similar to the pistol barrels, and I didn't go into munition components, but for the most part, if you have the resources to make the advanced munitionversions, they are better as I don't think many of the resources are gated.

I hope this info helps you or anyone else out. Good luck and happy crafting

Sidenote on advanced munition components .. the only two that really exist are Chemical Dispersion Mechanisms and maybe Heavy Warheads. I haven't played with Chemical Dispersion Mechanisms since they were debugged, but I'm guessing the advanced ones far outstrip the regular ones, and I haven't found a single thing I can even use Heavy Warheadsin.

The trend for a long time has been to either experiment scopes down to 0 HAM costs or to not even add them. With stocks most weaponsmiths don't even add them. I add both stocks and scopes to any weapon that can use them. The biggest complaint I have always heard is how much peeps miss with their weapons. HAM costs are a thing of the past, players get Buffs from Doc's, foods and spices. So with my stocks and scopes I add 42 to min/max dmg and 50 to ideal range.

I had a customer send me an email a couple of months ago going something like this. "Man I wouldn't have thought that the range mods of your weapons and being a bit slower wouldn't have made a difference but they have. My other rifle I have hits about 6 out of 10 shots and your hit about 9 out of 10. Even though yours are slower I actually waste more time with the faster rifle than with yours."

So for 10 shots with the faster weapon would be roughly 4 seconds faster with 6 hits, or go with the slower weapon and be more effective and not go through powerups as fast either. All my customers want the stocks and scopes on them. Your customers may not get buffed regularly and may need to watch their HAM costs on the weapons they purchase.

Don't make this out as a flame against other weaponsmith's that don't add them, this is just what my customers like.

grrrr .. posted a response and it got eaten ... take two (shortened version)...

I agree with Flamingdeath, and am glad to hear some results with weapons geared for higher accuracy at the expense of "dps" and HAMs, as this is something I've really wanted to play around with.

As far as your scopes and stocks go, do you use advanced, regular, or does it vary depending on the gun? Where are you putting your experimentation points on your stocks and scopes?

when making a gun for accuracy i use adv scopes+ stocks... both experimented for accuacy not damage or ham costs... this willmake a laser rifle that does 408 max damage @ 6.4spd doing this with ham costs right about a stocked t-21 but the accuacy of the gun is insane... +112 to +125 @ Ideal... testing with a master rifleman vs a master rifleman/pikeman (uber block template) had a regular laser (regular 0 ham scope - no stock) hitting around 1 in 6 shots... with the accuracy mod laser it was 100%... never missed... i've also repeated this experiment with carbines... made a laser carbine that was +97 @ ideal... rarely if ever would you miss with these guns... too bad pistols can't benifit from it... although if SR combat pistols could bestocked it would actually give some use to the gun...

That said my normal build on a weapon is adv barrels/PFM/BPH, regular 0 ham scope (still adds +10 accuacy)

if you can afford the resources always make and use std scopes. experiment them down to 1/1/1 (they always add at least one HAM to the weapon so 0/0/0 is redundant due to rounnding errors etc). with good resources the std scope will go easily to +12 too.

If you can get good resources to get the adv scope down great if not dont use em unless asked for a really accurate weapon!

As for stocks I dont use them unless asked specifically. (and in that rare occasion i send em to another smith that normally uses stocks and would otherwise make em like i do)!

As for the barrels I use both std and adv it depends on who I am selling too, in generally vnedor goods I use std only tho. ( a master rifleman isn't going to care too much if the rifle is .1 sec slower if the dmg is slighty better as well as the range)!

ABPH - always except for RL or other disposable weapons (ie commando ones where the dmg normally exceeds 1k as the extra +20 you get is a waste of resources for adv version and these usually ahve sucky speeds). If you can make the adv PH do so and in large factory runs as these will go faster than anything else.

I too use regular experimented ham scopes, a bare min 10 plus accuracy for 1-1-1 ham is really worth it i feel. I also use advanced weapon stocks experimented for damage cause most people who fight use buffs/food/spice. I was trying to sell stocked flamethowers for awhile and couldnt figure out why they wouldnt sell eventhough they were higher max damage than most others . Sometimes speed is more important.

I use adv stocks and scopes. My stocks were 42 min/42 max +.402 Spd +8 Ideal Rng H 30 A 30 M 30.

Adv Scopes +40 Ideal Rng H 15 A 15 M 15. I know there is wound stats but don't remember what those were right off hand.

I had just gotten some new resources so for the heck of it I made some Adv Blaster Pistol Barrels.
Stats = 15-15d -.723s.

I decided to add this to my Republic Blaster to see what I'd get. The starting stats with my standard zero HAM scope and my regular barrels was:
60-193d 2.5s 22.6% wound and -34 ideal range.

My results with the advanced barrels was:
67-203d 2.6s 27.8% wound and -20 on the ideal range.

So by using the advanced barrel I lose .1 in speed but the added damage still nets me around 1.3 DPS. Added to this is about a 41% increase in accuracy which means you should hit more often.

I think this is a pretty nice addition (Imagine a good splice on this baby!) What say you all?
