Thread: Sampling Musty Resources
several differences for skill
- range of survey tool
- with little survey skill, you couldnt sample at say a 40 percent spot successfully. it would say the density is too low. at master artisan i believe its around 20 percent where it cuts you off.
- and as mentioned likelihood of success to get sample per roll
This just brings me to my thought that merchant should take less skill points. Since I liken it to ID's requiring less skills points.
I think the only thing that increase the yield from hand sampling is the concentration of the resource. If you're on a 90% spot you'll get more than on a 50% spot. Having a higher survey skill only increases the chance of success. At least, that's my impression of how it works.

Well, I spent my first overnight survey on the planet.
For Sunrunner, only the Iron and Aluminum that are in spawn are worth sampling. Out goes fat little CL1 Leeroy in his hawtpants, looking for a safe haven from which to sample. Alas, there are no significant concentrations of Iron nor Aluminum in the relatively safe region south of the Mining Facility. Bravely, Leeroy takes a heading NW of the facility a lo and behold, hits on a 50% conc. of Aluminum and 78% Iron. There ARE red-dot lizard things roaming around and they look hungry, however they are keeping their distance and seem to be sparsely spawned. I bring Merrycone (M Musician/M Doc/N Art) out to meet Leeroy and after setting up the marcos, I retire to bed, hoping for the best from my brave duo of out-of-shape non-combatants.
This morning I wake with visions of stacks or resources dancing in my head. I run downstairs like a child on Christmas morning and rub the sleep out of my eyes as I squint at the monitors to find....
Both of them are standing on the survey spot (whew, they didn't die)...macro is still active...but...they are standing...that's not in the macro...hmmmm.
I check the inventories to find......230 Iron and 189 Aluminum...uggh.
So I try to figure out what went wrong, was it the macro? Was it an animal?
A scoll back in the combat logs reveals:
- 22:44 PlayerX hits a dinasour thingee for 456 points
- 22:44 PlayerX hits a dinasour thingee for 456 points
- 22:45 dinosaur thingee hits PlayerX for 500 points
- 22:45 dinosaur thingee hits PlayerX for 500 points
- 22:45 Player X heals himself for 800 points
- (repeat this pattern a couple of times)
- 22:47 dinosaur thingee hits Merrycone for 6867868 points
- 22:47 dinosaur thingee hits you for 748327489 points
- 22:47 you have been incapacitated by a dinosaur thingee
- 22:47 PlayerX hits a dinasour thingee for 456 points
- 22:48 you cannot sample while incapacitated
- 22:48 PlayerX heals you for 910 points
- 22:48 dinosaur thingee hits you for 89043834 points
- 22:48 you have been incapacitated by a dinosaur thingee
- 22:49 PlayerX hits a dinosaur thingee for 230 points
- 22:50 PlayerX heals you for 910 points
- 22:51 PlayerX heals Merrycone for 910 points
BTW, 22:45 was about 20 Minutes after I went to bed ![]()
So the way I'm imagining the situation...Player X is fighting some stuff, gets into trouble...starts dragging dinosaurs over to me looking for help, not seeing that I am CL1, in Hawtpants and an AFK tag up...gets me incapped. I'm not going to ascribe malicious intent here..just a word of warning:
IT'S DANGEROUS OUT THERE AND YOU TASTE BETTER THAN LAVA ROCKS!!
(also, be sure to add a /sample line to your macro in case this happens to you
)
