Thread: How many smiths out there actually use stocks and barrels in crafting?
With the right quality resources you can experiment regular scopes down to +1 HAM and Advanced +2. It's possible to get them down to 0 HAM, but they always add 1 when attached to the weapon.
If you can get the scopes to this level, you should be using them all the time on rifles / carbines - and probably most pistols. I use regular scopes on all pistols, advanced on all rifles.
As for stocks - the opinions vary. As a master rifleman, i like to have a stocked weapon for the maximum damage - but the trade off is a large HAM increase.
As a weaponsmith - i only add stocks to a couple of weapons - T21, Laser Rifle / Carbine and i clearly mark them on the vendor. They sell at a steady rate. I wouldn't do a large run with them though. They slow down the weapon and add marginal damage for the HAM's in most cases.
I'd only use a gun with a stock if I was going to use it for one-shotting mobs and the gun couldn't do so without the stock.
Rather a shame, really. Stocks could stand to be a lot more useful.
Of course, the T21 looks totally lame without the stock - have you seen the animation ? /shudder
Seems like it's only on some guns, but yeah, the scope/stock/barrel you use will actually show up in the final product if it was handcrafted. Didn't know it wasn't the case for factory guns, but now that I think about it, it sounds likely, since I don't remember ever pulling a gun out of a crate and seeing a scope on it.
Heavy acid riflesand rep blasters scream for scopes. The hvy acids I just use a max to-hit/dam formula for, since most commandos want them for the vuls vs pets and PVE, and can't afford to miss often, the adv scopes add +32 or so to ideal range, making it, +26 at 32m instead of -14 or something. That is a huge difference.
The small scopes experimented down to -ham, acc add some to a weapon that starts at -47 to-hit, alot of people like having that be in the 20's, and i usually wind up with a mix of ham and acc that brings to hit to -27 and gives ham of about 22/52/22, not a real biggie for pistols and their negligble ham mods.
Stock/scope/barrel will only appear if:
1) gun was hand-crafted
2) stock/scope/barrel were removed from crate (or hand-crafted) beforedoubleclicking themin crafting tool
3) gun model is compatible with stock/scope/barrel (DL44 shows all customizations, scout blaster shows none, some carbines show scopes but not barrels or stocks)
I use stocks on request from the buyer, and try to keep both stock and non-stock variants of popular weapons on the vendor. I find that a stocked gun is a good situation for a non-advanced barrel, which can help to offset some of the speed hit at little cost to damage, especially for high-damage guns like LLC's and flamers. I only put scopes in on request though.
