Thread: Question for Eclipse Weaponsmiths from another Weaponsmith
Okay, on Eclipse there are 3 or 4 major players in the weaponsmith business:
Stryker, Sanu, Kanae and Dominous are in that group. All of them are really good people and have worked hard for the success they are enjoying right now. They've earned it.
I recently got Master WS and I'm in the process of gathering materials to start building and stocking a shop. As I start crafting my initial line of weapons I am noticing I can't compete with any of these people in terms of Damage output on many of the items despite using advanced components and the best resources currently available.I realize that the main reason for this is that they have been around longer, have more experience and have had a chance to acquire better materials than I can get. Which is completely understandable and expected.
Here's my question:
Is there still a market for weapons that aren't quite as good as the ones these Uber-WS's are making? If I stock a shop will my weapons sell if they are competetively priced or will they simply sit in my vendors collecting dust?
Are there any other WS's on Eclipse that are managing to earn a living while still acquiring the materials to craftweapons that compete head on with the the top WS's on this server?
Im a novice weaponsmith on Kauri, and there are weaponsmiths like the four you mentioned. But you can easily make abusiness. If they sell a t21 for 100k (im just saying that I rly dont know what they are worth), you sell yours for 75k, If you have lower prices people would rather buy yours. Keep doing that until you can compete with them in terms of speed and damage.
For the best quality resources, go to a secondary planet.
Yes, agree that tactic would work except all of these WS's are charging VERY competetive prices for their weapons.
7.5k for the best non-Krayt FWG5 on the server is going to be hard to beat. My best FWG5has 10-15 points less Damage and a couple points more speed from theirs and even if I attempt to sell it at half the price, why wouldn't customers just spend the extra 3k to get the extra power?
Maybe I should concentrate on Heavy Weapons right now, where the prices are going to be a bit higher by nature?
As a weaponsmith on Eclipse I'm finding similar problems.
At the moment I don't have a quality ferrous metal so most of my weapons are a long way off. However I did manage to get 100k units of Eatsob 3 weeks ago.
My answer to this one was to refuse to make the items which would be sub-standard. I can make DL44s and Scout's extremely well and they did turn out much better then 3 of the smiths you mentioned. Id never heard of Dominous.
I then priced them at exactly the same price as the major weaponsmiths and found I sold nearly 100 of them within a fortnight.
I did however make a fairly large error last week in that I didn't see the second Irolunn gas and it's got 90 more OQ which is going to hurt. I play Tuesdays and Saturdays so with Tuesday being a write-off due to server downtime I completely missed it and since Eatsob can't be used in Advanced Handlers I'm at a loss what to do next.
Their is certainly no market on our server for substandard guns. Money is too commonplace and people can afford the best krayt weapons with a few hours of missions.
Im certainly not a major player, but thank you ![]()
I guess ive been master little over a month now and got to master by grinding in a few days. Im probabaly like what you are now. Infact i remember my first few weapons i made at master and they were way short of the server average and it depressed me.
This is what i did and still do even ![]()
When i first hit master i was fortunate to have the backing of my PA for money, so buying resrouces on the bazaar at first with the list of what i needed is what i did first. Believe it or not the bazaar is a gold mine at times. Also this gave me the opportunity to try and win some auctions on the boards.
Also since i hit master, Eclipse has been blessed with some very nice resources that make the playing feild a lot more even for new and older weaponsmiths (much of these new resources litter the bazaar).
Mine all your own resrouces if you can, i still do 99% of the time its far cheaper and satisfying imo... but remember to always keep on top of what is where.
Spam like crazy, setup shop and let ppl know you are there, if your weapons are not upto par, try a sliced weapons vendor too..
This is my experience....
I'm currently at 0-2-0-3 and just set up my first factory yesterday. When I got novice WS I knew what to do. I gathered some more minerals and grinded away to 0-1-0-1 and at this stage I started making weapons for fun, cause it was what I wanted. The DLTs, Scouts and DH17 carbs was pretty crappy but at the price I set they sold, both at the bazaar as well as about a gun per day at my vendor. DLTs and DH17s sold the best. When you browse the bazaar you see many low lvl weapons, but most of them are crafted with bad minerals or knowledge, making them not so good.. this gives a little edge to my "ok" weapons.
At the same time I started making low level melee weapons, swords, daggers, staffs and axes. These sells pretty well, since its a kinda big hole of realy good low level melee weapons. I used good resources as well as a filled (exept master) artisan tree. But only the swords are from the WS tree.
I've now advanced to 0-2-0-3 and I see a better result on my experiments. I lack good Iron so FWGs will have to wait. DH17s and DLT20s seems to sell the best for me. I'd say there is a small market for low level weapons, nothing spectacular but you can sell a few weapons.
The problem i have found with being a n00b WS on Eclipse (shop ready in a couple of days) is the tactics being employed by some of the other folk on the server. They buy up far larger stocks of certain materials than they could ever hope to use, just to keep others out of the loop.
I have actually found Sanu to be a great help. I spoke to him the other day about my weapon stats, and he put my mind at ease a little. I have been buying materials from the bazaar, and if i see something i need real bad, i also email the seller to see if they have any more.
If you want to truly compete on our server, you absolutely MUST have the resources to make advanced components. This means Diatium copper, Quadranium steel , Phrik Alu and Ryll gemstone. Thankfully two of these have spawned well recently, although two havent. Good luck with Quad steel.....
How do you know what stats you should look for in a certain gun?
However this is still an interesting topic. Quite honestly I don't know how long I would have lasted had I not had such good luck and I really feel for any new weaponsmiths.
The odds are currently stacked against anyone trying to make a start in the weaponsmith business. The current top weaponsmiths already have a huge stockpile of all the best resources and are able to drive up the prices on any auction of the same material well beyond the reach of the average player. I don't believe that anyone does this intentionally, it's just a part of trying to remain competetive.
We need a way to make it easier for new Master Weaponsmiths to be competetive while still giving the veterans some of the advantage they have earned through their hard work.
There are no easy answers to this one. :-(

for example: Would you want OQ and conductivity for that gun?
