Thread: How are you dealing with inflation?

Most of you are probably experiencing inflation in your respective servers, with people selling and buying things for outrageous prices. I, for one, am not a very wealthy weaponsmith. I have a consistent customer base, so it keeps me at a stable level. But, being at a consistent level while the price of everything else continues to increase, it really discourages my optimism in this business. While other crafters such as doctors and armorsmiths can reasonably raise prices due to their dependence on the organics market, I do not feel that I could bring myself to raise prices due to the fact that all normal weapons are made with harvested resources which have had a fixed cost per unit for as long as the game has been in existence. There is also much competition between weaponsmiths that further prevents me from raising prices, which may deter my uncommitted customers. Looted components have only added to the problem. Demands for "enhanced" weapons is unreasonable for a weaponsmith like myself as I cannot afford to take a 1.5 million credit risk on a bone, that if sliced the wrong way is worse than a 15% dmg sliced weapon. Anyone else feel like the economy is turning to crap really fast?

I mine all my own resources, all my own power. My costs are fixed, and therefore I can afford to sell weapons at a price point MUCH lower than most smiths.

So, how do I deal with inflation? My prices stay the same, as everyone else's go up. Andhopefully, my business will increase as well, as the quality of my wares is excellent.

I find that prices for standard weapons are pretty stable, or even decreasing. Where inflation is really hitting is in the new looted schematics and components, as well as the usual enhancers like Krayt tissues. As long as you harvest most of your own resources, you shouldn't have any problems in the market for standard weapons.

Agreed, my resource costs are staying fairly stable, it's simply the loot components that are going up. My weapon prices have remained very stable since last November or so.

That's my point exactly... I harvest my own resources, my prices haven't changed since I was a MWS in January. If our weapon prices are decreasing, our sales have to increase to maintain status quo. Unfortunately, the status quo doesn't exist because of the inflation creating the need to sell even more weapons to a population that isn't as big as it used to be.

Why is the slice *your* problem?

As a rule, I don't preslice weapons.

Base Acklay Bones (65/65) are going for about 100k on Starsider. Base Krayt tissue is 100k-200k.

I buy it, I store it.

If someone wants an Acklay Hammer, they get told what the stats will roughly be. If they are willing to pay, I make it. If they're not, I continue to store the bone (and slowly accrue more).

For the most part, inflation is confined to looted weapon components: acklay bones, krayt tissues, scythe schematics, geo power cubes, DE-10 barrels/schematics, etc. If you don't sell these types of weapons, then you shouldn't have to worry about inflation all that much. And if you do sell these types of weapons, then you should be selling them for a lot to make up your costs. The ultimate measure of how well you're doing is whether your credit balance is increasing or decreasing. Maybe I'm not just getting your point.

i'm assuming you guys buy things other than weapon components... buffs, armor, etc. with these things going up in price, to keep your credit balance the same is basically the same thing as it going down. i dunno. i think i'm just annoyed at rising prices of everything.

i dont have to worry about uping my prices or lowering them cause im gonna close my shop once my vender is empty (once EVERYTHING is sold that is which means anything that was taken off cause of the 30 day thing will go back up) cause i dont want to give up rifleman for merchant so ill jus make stuff for my guild (if they want anything i make )and friends. tho it will take over 3 months for the vender to empty cause i dont get many sales . will still prolly take custom orders if asked.

I haven't seen any inflation problems yet...

but I'm worried.

With alot of players having two accounts (Jedi), alot of players are taking up a crafting profession on the side. Therefore I see alot of new weaponsmiths on the way.

The grinding is slowly coming to a close, less grinding = less general weapons use = less non enhanced sales.

I'm not sure if the population is declining, but it is definitly not growing.

That said, we are looking at more supply and less demand, prices for nonenhanced stuff will go down.

With the vendor limits most smiths will have to specialize, this may help make sure there is a niche for all smiths and may spring the creation of weapon malls.

Same.... except I feed my Harvesters as a Master Pistoleer. Sad. Its the most demanding prof to get going and is falling behind most other leet profs as to profitability. But take hart...it better now to get established than when every other person on the server is a Jedi !

Welcome to the after affects of credit duping, resource duping and unserialized schematics. Guess they didn't quit filter out\take care of themselves as expected, did they SOE?

Anyways, after fighting against the tide and the undertow and getting zilch in the way of support from the designers & developers of the game, the only advice I can give from a day-one weaponsmith is:

* Mine as much of your stuff as you possibly can
* Scout out a good location for your shop - go into a mall if you can
* Sell sliced, but sell a little behind the market
* Follow the market or advance it in pricing for sales & purchases, one 'smith a trend makes not, you just end up poorer than most of the other smiths.
* /addignore any whiners of any sort, especially those that complain about price. A combat character with ONE combat profession mastered can easily make a million credits in a 2-3 hours of play, not counting what they sell their loot for. Newbies, even casual players, should be in the money in 2-4 weeks of casual play.
* If you really want to make money, sell sliced armor or sell food - depends on your server, but food vendors can be rare.
* Go into a mall
* Sell sliced
* Mine as much of your stuff as you possibly can

I have just started selling weapons on Chimeara, but it isnt with the stock i wanted to start with. This is mainly down to the fact that Irolunn ReactiveGas hasnt been around as an extractable resource for quite a while (i ve been a weaponsmith for at least 3 months). I looked at buying a few 1000 units on the trade forums but when people are prepared to pay upto180 credits/unit it isnt worth it. Especially if you wish to make a T21, that would automatically put 28800 credits onto the price. I try to extract all my resources so i can produce weapons at a fairly low price and that means having to hold back with producing the weapons until the resources become available.

If i cant make a weapon with at least 90% experimental damage then i dont make it.
