Thread: Can 10 point Experimentation Smiths compete with 12 point Smiths?

Well, I recently created a new character and was thinking about making a weaponsmith. Now of course I won't be able to afford the skill tapes and what not to be an 11 or 12 pointer, so my question is can I compete as a 10 point weaponsmith with great resources? Please share your thoughts and discuss. Thanks.

Yes.

As long as you focus on obtaining quality resources, your weapons will have the same speed and damage that 12 point smiths will have and let's face it, when the customer is out shopping, that's what they're looking for. Whenever I have points leftover I put them in condition because the minor decrease in HAM or increase in range accuracy is either overlooked or insignificant, but the additional 25 to 50 pts in condition means an extra few days of heavy beating with the weapon for my customer.

I'm a 10pt weaponsmith and I have no problem matching 12 points on Spd/Dmg just takes a few more tries sometimes

Generally the extra 2 points only let you experiment on ham/range/durability which most customers dont even look at.

The only huge difference is the 2 points help you recover from a moderate failure, which can be crucial when crafting big ticket items like scythes, krayt items, etc

Thanks so much for the quick replies. They answered exactly what I was wondering. I'm glad also that they helped out someone else's decision.

A 10 point smith might be at a disadvantage doing custom builds, as those extra points do help recovery, as well as tack on extra durability, but as a mainstream supplier you should have no problems.

The key is customer service.

Too often someWS's in my experience think 12pts substitute for courtesy and manners (disclaimer, this is not to say all 12pt smiths are rude - I am one!). This is assuredly not the case Be good to your customer base, and they'll back you. Things such as a fully stocked vendor, and general availability when customers wish to talk to you. You'll quickly learn who to filter out (e.g. hi its my birthday wanna make me free guns or hi i want a 800 dmg t21 i can pay big liek 100k thx versus Hello, I was wondering what possible ways I can enhance a Striker Pistol and costs involved?).

Tell hell is exactly that, but managing it will make you remembered as the weaponsmith who takes the time out to talk, and not palm people off like some elitist 12pt who couldn't care less because cash rolls in anyway.

AGREE on Top Resources. Also AGREE on customer service.

Just got tried in fact. Message came in 'Can You Make Me A Kryat CDEF Plez and How Much ?'

Well, I answered very calmly that this is not possible, then did a forward of my Enhancer file to let them know Where those tissues would be useful. Did the Ol' Any Further Questions, Be Sure To Ask.

Turns out it was one of my Buds. Says he laughed all thru the thing and had not a clue how I managed to stay calm, heh. Just good customer service friend, heh heh.

I'm a 8 Point smith and I can craft some weapons as good or better than some of the 12 point smith's. It really depends on your resources and location.

Yes.

It all comes down to resources.

Most weapons, giveequivalent resources, will be capped at the same damage & speed regardless of 10 vs 12 points.

The differentiator will be additional condition, range mods, etc.

Its a good gun to get the first 4 boxes and the novice box done in a hurry on stuff without armor if you have an extra single high quality tissue around

When I get a spare Krayt tissue I am going to make myself a krayted pistol .. I still have Novice Marksman .. and when I'm minding my harvesters I like to defend myself against those evil Chunkers and Crazed Durni...
