Thread: 12-pointer poll: How much money/time did +20 exp take you?

Hi,

I'm a recent master WS who is wondering whether to stick with it in the face of what seems to me to be a nearly-unattainable advantage held by older WS in the form of their 2 extra experimentation points. I can make decent weapons, but who will buy them if they can have one that's more heavily experimented? Price isn't a factor for most people, as SW:G's economy is absolutely flooded with cash, even on smaller servers like mine (Shadowfire).

In assessing whether or not I can compete as a weaponsmith, I'd like to know how difficult/costly it is to obtain +20 weaponcrafting exp. I'm guessing that it costs multiple millions, and my only choice is to start a combat profession and do solo-group missions, but I'd like to hear the forum's experiences.

Didn't take me long...Before I began weaponsmithing (I'd already played for about four months or so...) I looted a few +1's and a +2. When I did start, first thing I got was a Weaponsmith Toolkit (+3 bonus there), and a few weeks later, a guildmate looted a +15 Weapon Experimentation CA off of Nyax. I, along with another weaponsmith in the guild, split the cost and purchased it for 20 million from him. Total cost, 10 million. I'd say that I had it easy, though.

Oh, and another thing (curses for no edit ability). You can compete quite easily as a 10 pointer, because when you get down to it, 12 points doesn't let you add any more damage onto a weapon (usually), and that's what people care about most. Basically, all it lets you do is improve condition or other secondary stats, and more importantly (in my opinion, anyway), lets you recover from one form or another of bad experimentation, which is nice insurance when you're doing work with premium weaponry....krayted, acklayed, whatever.

I've been a MWS going on 7-8 months now (since December), and I'm still working on getting my extra points. I have +11 weapon experimentation in various modifiers. I have plenty of money to buy the remaining 9 points I need, but there haven't been very many weapon experimentation SEAs for sale lately, so I just bide my time.

As a new smith your top priority should be obtaining the best resources you can. That will help you far more than getting skilltapes. Once you've established yourself, have a good resource collection and plenty of money banked, then you can concentrate on getting skilltapes. They're more of a perk or a luxury item for established WS than a necessity.

I would have to agree that being a 12 point smith is not needed. Most customers won't know the difference anyway. I am an 11pt Smith at the moment, and that was by pure luck. I saw a post on the forums for a guy who wanted to trade +11 in skill tapes for a full set of composite. His only stipulation was that the WS was a rebel. I got him his comp suit and we made the swap. You can spend millions or just bide your time.I would concentrate on the resources for the time being and worry about the skill tapes as they come up.

it cost me a whopping 30 mill for a +10 tape... good lord, it was a lot, but i did a buyout, because i wanted to become atleast an 11 point smith for those evil moderate sucesses to assure my customers the best, incase i get a moderate... I think im not gonna use the banolier, even though i bought it, because i would have to take off my back pack, and OMG its hell and takes 10 mintues to re-arrange everything to make the switch... any way, thats my 2 credits

well, i started out as i tailor/rifleman. a friend got me a schematic for the WS toolkit so i could make some of them for a friend. the friend and i ran a business and he was a ws and i a tailor. my friend got a +7 ws xp belt from a guildie. after a month or so of him being weaponsmith he quit the game and gave his stuff to me. i decided to drop tailor and pick up weaponsmith since it was a much better money maker. after about 1 1/2 months as a MWS i saw a +11 ws xp tape up for auction and bought it out for 20 mil. so i guess it only took me 20 million cradits and 1 1/2 months to become a 12 point smith but if you include the time it took to get the +3 and +7 it would be like 2 1/2 months and 20 mil

As a Trandoshan smith it was always going to be an added challenge to get to +20 exp points especially had I to rely upon +1 tapes.

Anyway during the whole borgle bat cave phase I tried my luck at camping a few of the piles and could come up with nothing better than +1s to exp and assembly. Since they didn't stack (something I found out to my cost ) they were all but useless but I stuck them into clothes I could wear and came up to +4 exp and +3 to assembly.

One day I logged in to a tell from some random guy telling me to make him an offer on a +4. I paid 4 million and it took the place of one of my +1s to get me closer to 11 points. The new WS toolkit came out not long after and I finally hit 11.

A few days later a post appeared on my guild forums from some of the people that had been on a Nyax hunt: they had looted a multi modded tape that had a +10 to exp on it. Unfortunately it was bettered by a 13 to terrain neg. The owner of the tape decided to bank it till they fixed skill tapes (like that's ever gonna happen), but about a month later she got jedi and sold her account. She bequeathed me the tape to use for the guild. It sat in my bank for a few weeks until one day I spotted a skill tape on the trade forums witha +14 to terrain neg . I ended up bidding against jedi for the tape and eventually paid 7 million for it (I'm sure had the seller knew why I wanted it the price would have gone up a lot).

I dropped this on my specially crafted pants and then proceeded to drop the +10 exp tape on there. Believe me that was scarier than any krayt crafting but it all worked out and I finally had my 12 points, albeit using that damn bandolier. I held out for a few weeks of the nightmare of having to drop my pack everytime I wanted to craft, and finally decided I needed another +4 tape and to dump the tool set altogether. Best 5 million I ever spent.

All in all I've paid more for the geo pistol schem than I did to acquire my 5 piece suit (remember no gloves or boots for lizards, how wookiees manage I don't know) and even when I quit I doubt I'd sell it. Hopefully the game will be fixed enough to resubscribe before my character and items get purged (idiots)....

In my WS'ing suit there is +25 experiment, +21 assembly, and +13 repair. Total cost between myself and a friend has been nearly 60million...

However, another guy on our server was looking to buy a full suit, offering upto 60mil. I contacted him and arranged a deal whereby we share the suit, and he coughed up 30mil fora 50%share in the suit. It sits in a house in my town, not far from a shuttleport and starport, where all three of us have admin. The house has nothing but the suit and a crafting station.

As long as you can trust the other person, this is a cool way to save some cash for all concerned.
