If you want to RP as a buddhist monk in a starwars game thats your choice.

Some people prefer to be more imaginative and come up with there own ideas and since there isnt alot of information about Teras Kasi it leaves it a bit open ended in how they should be. From what I've read of them in books they're all about mastering the body, control of ones self. Not some never ending quest for knowledge.
As for tradional appearances. It depends on how you're rping your character. Did Luke wear Jedi garb in the movies?
Where has there ever been anything about Teras Kasi Artists shunning technology? How did they get to various planets with out using it? Such as when the original planet they lived on was destroyed, how did they relocate to another planet and perfect the Teras Kasi arts over the next few hundred years? (Click there heels together three times and say there is no place like home.) Why wouldn't they use buffs? Sure I can understand the drugs for rp purposes. But as for food or buffs from a doctor I dont see any valid reason why not.

What you think the Teras Kasi should be and what others think they should be, can be and are drastically different. This whole idea of shunning technology just doesnt work in role playing the Teras Kasi Artist. It doesnt even match up with what little history there is of the Teras Kasi or how they came to be the people they are.

Same with Jedi's you cant expect them to RP as if they where the same type of Jedi from the old republic. These are different times and not ust for the Jedi but for the Teras Kasi too. As there arnt that many left or so it is beleaved. (according to starwars history not swg.)
I hope you enjoy rpiong your entire SWG Career on one planet as according to how you RP your character you cant use space ships to get to other planets.

How many of you can say that you RP Teras Kasi Artist? I mean we're the equivalent to Buddhist Monks and yet I see most of us wearing armour, riding around in vehicles and completely ignoring the begging of n00bs. I wear an orange robe all the time, no armour, I'm bald, I'm always talking about the Teras Kasi code and Enlightenment, whatI can and can't do, I sold my vehicle and now ride a bol everwhere, I give money to the poor, I even call myself Chao because if I am called by my real name then I am reminded of my arrogant self, I am not Chao, I am a Chao, the list goes on.

And yet I see TK masters, who have reached enlightenment (as it says on the skill monitor) wearing armour, riding vehicles and keeping money to themselves, never talking at all about the beauty of the galaxy or anything like that. I RP I am part of a Teras Kasi temple and when I say that to a fellow TKA they just say "I hate RPers".

I don't care if you're not on Starsider (which is supposed to be the RPing server) can everyone who RP TKA please post here? Show me I'm not the only one.

Yes, I roleplay. I roleplay my Ranger side more than TKM, but they work very nice together. I also ride my mount more than my speeder, but I do use technology such as armor and VK's sometimes. MyTrandoshan uses his TK mastery as a means of greater self-sufficiency.

The whole purpose of the Teras Kasi was to keep the Jedi in check after a war between the light side and dark side devestated there planet. So there cant really be a good side or bad side. Just how each individual acts.
Personally I don't agree with the mentallity that the Teras Kasi are supposed to be some kind of do gooders. They dont care if some one is poor or not. (sure some might but its not part of what Teras Kasi are as a whole.)
As a Teras Kasi I am here to keep tab's on the Jedi and to make sure history doesnt repeat itself as it did with the planet Palawas. (I think thats right been a while.) What I do to keep the Jedi in check are up to me and the training I've recieved. I mean if the end justifies the means.

I roleplay a modest martial artist who will point out what works and what doesn't if that kind of advice is needed. I have a story that I'm writing so I'm still tooling around with the overall behavior. I don't use armor, but I do use spice (i am a smuggler afterall, but I don't abuse it).

When I get it right he'll be a somewhat accurate description of a martial artist, but he'll have some flaws that will make him human and not some contrived being.

Good thread

Sadly, I have not roleplayed as much as I would like to recently, however I have nobody to blame there but myself

I do think a good roleplayer can be easily spotted by what he is willing to 'give up' in order to further his RP aspects, however this does not exclude the rest as bad RPers. Often they are just harder to spot in amongst the crowd, though you can be pleasantly surprised and find the occasional gem.

I rp that I am the son of the leader of a order that took the Teras Kasi abilities and powers further then the Teras kasi order did( sure there is no in game way to do this so I make things up as I go along) basically he tried to rebuild this secret order but failed misserably and decide to dedicate himself to become the last of this order. basically I am mastering TKA and doing the offensive and defensive line of swordsmen to make myself what i want to rp

Don't discount the possibility of a dark-side TKA either. Embrace technology, kill everything, loot and pillage, use your powers for the forces of evil Not all enlightened artists will use their abilities to help the weak. Many will simply kill the weak simply because they're less important than insects. A flamethrower when appropriate and vibroknucks to feel the blood. Violence, rage and adrenalin are the driving force. Come to the dark-side, grasshopper.

Verri you put up some good points and I am grateful for it, I admit I was a bit misguided, though I am still going to RP my character in the same way, but don't you think if you read the skills bar then it points you in the direction of a Buddhist Monk.

By the way I do use technology like starports, but very rarely and as an excuse I say I have done good things for the temple and using technology is my reward

I think that's a very 'Earthlike' view of monks. I see Monks as being an Order, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence of 'something'. It doesn't mean that search also has to involve humility, helping old ladies across the street or being kind to stray dogs. That is very much narrowing the definition. I can quite believe that a Monk under the broader sense could dedicate themselves to the Martial Arts without forsaking their 'wordly' urges.

I think it adds colour that a TK can amass large chunks of money and enjoy the best, taking advantage of every edge that is available. Maybe he's kind to puppies, maybe he uses them as Dragonet bait, it shouldn't matter to the achievement of the primary goal. Do Jedi sing 'Hari Krishna' at the starport? Please tell me, 'No' or I'm gonna weep.

the way i play my tkm is:

he is a very shrewed man.. Wont take duff from no one.. He has in his bio, been thru hell and back.. The TKA order is split in two the good being the shining fists and the bad the Black Guard.. he has studied both schools and even under went sword training.. Will not take spices but will doc buff out of necessity.. wears armor if the situation calls for it.. He is a zabrak is NOT bald.. Occasionally given to flights of philosophical insight.. please read fallen monk on the thread below Im writing about my character in story format

roleplay how you want there is no good or bad way to do this
