Thread: balance in melee professions and ways to make TKA more rare

I just read over the proposed changes on test. While I think, thatthis is good, I hope, that they increase the viabitlity of all melee profession, not just TKAs.

But there is another problem, which could arrise ...

In my opinion, TKAs should be more rare and they should definetly not become the new flavor of the month class!

The problem with TKA is, that they are at the moment at the upper end of the melee professions and the unarmed prerequisite is shared with two very common classes (Smuggler and Commando). Because of this, they are more common than the other melee profession.

I somehow like the idea of the TKA beeing an "elite" melee profession (there is none in the game) and rare, or even a professon who will hardly use ranged weapons, but at the moment, this is not the case, because many smugglers, Commandos pick up TKA as a side professions.

I dont know, if it is too late at this stage of the game, but perhaps there should be some bigger chances to be made.

How about (only a few suggestions):

  • Change the prerequisites of Commando away from brawler (and change it to either some other melee profession (1h ?) or to something different (medic ?)

  • Adding some additional prerequisit to TKA besides unarmed (Scout: the monk types who spent much time outside; medic: the balance between fighting and healing; dancing (and getting some meditative / combat oriented dance styles)

  • Master Brawler (but then you have to give some additional benefits to MB; especially because a Master Marksman has always 2 full lines, which were somehow usefull (prefered weapon and weapon support; while a MB has only one line)

At the moment, it is for some common ranged classes way too easy (especially compared to other melee classes) to pick up TK as a side profession(or vice versa) which results in a too high (IMHO) number of players playing TKAs.

And yes, I am a TKM.

I started with the path of TKA right after the release of the game, when we were at the lower end and when there werent many of us. And I like the profession. But I see the danger, that we willbecome the new "flavor of the month" and be needlessly nerfed at the end of this process ...

And no, I dont think, that we dont need some enhancements. We need enhancements. But enhancing TK without addressing some of the above mentioned problems (population, easy to combine with ranged) will increase the "hate" against us and definetly wont match with the picture of TK in the EU.

Stop trying to make TKA"s like Jedi or something, they aren't supposed to be. Changing commando pre-req's this far into the game would be a huge "no no". In SWG no class will be rare if its good, thats the way things will be thats the way unfortunately the way they made the game there is no diversity.

If you want TKA"s to be more rare, change teh exp requirements, double them if you have to, changing pre-req's not only destroys many peoples skill tree's, (Do they keep those skilsl when pre-req's change, or do they have to train in the trees all over again?).

Changing experience requirements is the ONLY way that you could do what your thinking. And changing pre-req's doesn't fix the problem, there will always be certain mixes of professions that make an insane PVP'r or PvE Character. Feel proud that less people dabble in TKA and most master it. Commando's right now is all about dabbling.

This would only hurt me as I'm a TKM/Smuggler Trainee.

Personally I believe TKAs are not what they are in the role plying games or in other video games...they are not as powerful as they should be and right now our job is to watch the commandos instead of the Jedi...yes that is our job in everyother aspect of play other than this game alone.

I beleive there should be a nw Elite Eilite Profession to Grand Master that would be almost as hard as Jedi and almost as long to get to..that would require nearly a years worth of work to achieve.....but after this not only would our HAM be increased by 700 on all stats but we would get 100% increases on damage and speed already on top of what we have as TKMs. We would get new skills that only Grand Masters could get and we could then assume our role as Jedi Watchers.

Now many will say thats not fair....hey if you are willing to work for nearly a year to get this title and if it is as hard as getting Jedi then why not.....SWG should have never created TKA characters on this game unless they planned to make them what they in every other book and game ever made that had TKAs in them...other wise whats the point of making the TKA because this game in its huge capacity is going to re-define what a TKA is unless they create another elite slot for us......

Dude its just my opinion...I dont make any decisions and therefore cant define the TKA at all in this game....and its not a fluke because it wasnt just in one book,,it was in a past Sony Playstation game and several Role-Playing books...not just one..so it wasnt a fluke.

I would agree with you Lo'Pan, but only if the current TK profession is nerfed a bit.

Let me clarify.

I think an elite elite is a good idea for TKA...more time invested and more skill points = less flavor of the month crowd. However, you can't leave the normal TKA profession as the most powerful of the melee types, and then double its power with grand master! Think about it, when you master TKA you would only be done with 1/2 of your training....is it right that after that you can still kick the crap out of any other melee in the game, and handle yourself rather well in PvP? No. I think that they should implement this Elite Elite which gives us extraordinary power (like a step below jedi in melee combat) and then nerf the existing TKA profession slightly, so you don't truly become powerful until you start leveling in grand master. This way other melees can say they are better than(or just as good as)normal TKA's, and when the grand masters start popping them all once in the head they wont be able to complain. They should rename the current TK profession to Teras Kasi Initiateor Acolyteor something, and then when mastered you become a Teras Kasi Novice, then for the GM tree, it is called TKA and mastered is TKM. The tradeoff is you are not as good while training your intermediate profession, but when you finally reach the elite elite your potential is boundless.

This post is reminding me of the people calling for Bounty Hunters to be Jedi Killers on BH Forum, it makes me sick that a fellow TKA can spew this garbage.

Auto, I don't think we should be Jedi killers in the game, considering how hard it is to become a jedi and how rare they will be. I think a Jedi Master should be able to take on two TKM's in an even fight (where he would be able to take 3-5 other normal players).

The point here is that I think there should be an ultra elite melee class in the game. The ranged players have BH (and commando to a lesser degree). We have...TKA? Thats it. Obviously melee suffers from lack of balance as a whole, and the fencers and swordsmen and pikemen all need to be brought up to a point where they can hold their own vs TKA's. However, I think TKA is the right profession to choose to expand into an elite elite profession that would lord it over all other melees. And since it costs more skillpoints and time to level you cant complain that its unbalanced.

Yes stated, A LONG TIME AGO that Jedi's could take a full group, I honestly think jedi's will be nerfed once the masses become Jedi's yes masses will if all it is, is mastering many professions. Easy. There is going to be alot mroe Jedi than they expect. Jedi will have to be toned down. What happens when 5 jedi take control of a town? the potential for griefing is huge.
