I have a full set of chitin and am TKA Student right now.

I take a MAX of 50 dmg per melee hit now and on average 17 - 31 as a Trandoshan.

Laser blasts sill hurt but yes it is definitely worth wearing chitin.

Armorweave only helped a little.

Bone didn't help at all for melee. It's really laser balst prot.

Hope this helps!

Well first off your brawler is weak I do anywhere from 150-170 dmg and im only expert unarmed. Wearing armor makes you slower and weaker in fact it causes you more dmg when wearing it then not. The only purpose it has is for marksmen who go PvP on other marksmen. chitlin Armor is even worse DO NOT WEAR ARMOR if your melee.

LOL..he said he TAKES a Max of 50 damage wearing armor. He didn't say anything about what kind of damage he deals out. So take a deep breath and relax before you start calling others weak.

This topic is killing me also. Every game I have played in the past has armor as a must have option especially for a melee character.

Could I get some more opinions from experienced melee fighters? Are we really better off wearing no armor?

I dont know if were better off or not, but I do know I havent worn any armour and I have done just fine. Im at expert unarmed so far but with a pair of good vibro knuckles most mobs dont stand a chance. I am picking up a personal shield today,Icant wait.

In my opion armor on a melee is useless. Yes it helps dampen damage to you, but it makes your actions cost sooooo much more that it is not worth it, not to mention the slow down on you per hit.

Save your money for a knuckler

Your use of armor should be based on your personal needs.

One of my PA mates is training to become a TKA and his job in most battles is to occupy the enemy while the Marksmen dish out the heavy damage. Until he gets a pair of knuckles his damage output is much lower than a finely crafted blaster, but he can take damage much much better than we can. The armor helps him to take more damage and because he's not trying to do the bulk of the damage he reserves his pools for status effect styles and then just uses regular non-draining attacks.

It can be good, it can be bad. Assess your situation!

Im wearing a combination of chitin and Mabari right now.

Before armor equaled a lot of down time, incap'd nearly every fight.

After armor equals two or three fights before regen time, hardly any incap's.

Its worth it in my opinion. Until personal shield generators start being made anyway.

Personally I prefer enhanced clothing.

Ham costs to armor imho are to high even with a good slice. My advice get enhanced clothing, with intimidate/warcry, injury treatment, combat bleeding, def. v stun and melee defense.

i also have my stats migrated to 900/400/400, 900/40/40, 1000/400/600. So this has worked great and i still dont have POB. Get some medic skills to heal ya if necesary.

I could se the uses of armor as a defensive mechanism if you are just going to tank in PVP and not worry about using specials. If this is the case armor helps (also if buffed).

Another thing I never use vk's now that i have power 4 (even though i have a pair of +227 dmg on my backpack).

I use armour most of the time in combat. I have a full set of 60%-70% kinetic resist ubese. Most mobs dish out kinetic damage with no armour pierce. Say a mob, call him "a durni baby", hits me for 500 damage (rock hard durni baby), this first gets halved by the AR1 vs AP0 modifier. 250 damage remains. The hit was on my body, so my 67% resist from my chest plate comes into effect. This leaves 83 damage taken.

I see "a durni baby hits you for 500 damage" in the combat spam, and the number -83 floats off above my head in red.

Fully powerboosted, I have about 1300 health pool. Without my armour, that's 3 hits I can take without having pulled any specials or healing up. With my armor, I can take 15 of those hits without healing or pulling specials. As long as I don't spam /unarmedcombo2 my HAM doesn't take too much of a hit. Take off the vks, kd the animal, warcry it. If the warcry sticks, put ok vks and go to town on it with /unarmedhit2. If it doesn't, keep the vks off and debuff it as much as possible. stun, blind intimidate. Then switch to vks and beat it's skull in.

Even with the disadvantage of my (unsliced) armour making my pools drop faster than without, I survive longer than I would without it. I only have balance 1 at the moment, so my unarmed toughness is not yet high, so the damage reduction that will come my way is not there yet. I may choose to stop using armour then, but until then I'm sticking with stim Bs and good ubese.

For big mobs or groups of mobs that swarm you, mind can be a problem with a helmet on and doing a lot of healing. But that's what muon gold is for.
