Thread: When to ditch vibro's?

I am currently 0/1/1/1 and I was wondering when does a TK's speed and damage get high enough that you don't want vibro's anymore? I know the big problem with vk's is the HAM cost. So when is it worth it to switch?

For me there is always a time for em. I take em off to do specials and for range, but when HAM gets low I put them and armor on and just stand there doing damage.

same here..damage is decent with the higher skills without em, but once u've drained urself with specials u'll want to switch to them and armor and just auto pilot

I agree with the previous posters. I find myself using them less and less.

I usually run my specials, then hit berserk, equip the knucks and go to town.

Never ditch them! They rock. They make a big difference in damage.

With bare hands my unarmed hit 3 hits for 1000 on average, with VK's it hits for 2000+. I'm not sure on the HAM cost difference but I will check when I get after work. VK's rock for auto attack as well.

Also your bare hands don't have armor piercing and you will notice reduced damage if you are fighting a light armored mob, or player that is not vulnerable to kinetics (bugged).

Using /unarmedhit3 I hitfor 1200-1300 unarmed and 1800-2000 with knuckles equipped, so about a 50% increase. Even with 600 focus and 600 willpower I am losing Mind at a much faster rate than the additional damage. Sure you can kill something more quickly, but you will be sitting even longer on your hind side to make up for it.

If I were doped up on Muon Gold then the additional Focus and Willpower would compensate for the Vibroknockler, and I'd dish out the pain freely.

Does anyone have any research to present on the base HAM costs of a style and how much different levels of Strength/Quickness/Focus affect the actual HAM burn?

The only time I ever use VKs in PvP is if I'm facing a heavily armored target (ST armor or composite), a tough pet, or my target absolutely has to die as fast as possible. In normal PvP it's far more HAM-efficient for me to just use my bare hands, though I have picked up a pair of VKs made with the lowest possible encumbrance that I will try using once I get them sliced. The main reason for VKs for me now is for the armor piercing capability, not the damage.

It all boils down to how much damage do you want to output and how long do you want it to take? If you want to do alot of damage in one hit, equip VKs and do a special. If you want to do alot of damage over a fight, unequip VKs and chain those specials. I can do more damage by unequiping them and chaining specials.

Also, make **edit** sure you never do a knockdown with VKs equipped....unless you want to kill yourself of course

I have just got to power 3, and I am keeping the VK's on (yes I do specials with them, just use a few stimpacks). When I unequip them I take lose the speed advantage I have so end up doing more harm to me then the savings in ham costs.

Even at power3 find with Vk's equiped I do more damage and hit faster. And take less damage.

Without VK's they hit me for every once I hit them. And I have to use stimpacks to survive.

With the Vk's I hit them twice for every once they hit me, plus do more damage. And I sometimes need to use stimpacks, but not as often as without the VK's

Usually just use blind, stun, combo1, unarmed2, then usually health or leg hit to finish them off.

Knockdown just use once in a while, but usually just to give me time to use a stimpack.

The VKs I am using are 85 - 122 damage (not high), speed is 1.8 (sliced from 2.4), hams 60/47/19 (high but as use stimpacks it is not a worry. HAve tried with and without VK's I will use the VK's and suffer the ham penalties, as I can take out a 5k ham white con in half the time with the VKs, and usually only use up 1/2 to 3/4 ham bar. Without them Usually have to use stimpacks a few times, due to the extra damage they are doing as they can hit me more as they survive longer.

Think VK use is all down to preferance, but I will use them always until I can get that sort of speed without using them. Plus the AR1, extra damage and extra speedratings make them even more worthwhile to use.

Plus killing them quicker means you get less 'target is out of range' messages, while they hit you for 100+ damage a time.

You forgot a reason:

5. Killing someone with your bare hands is just so much more fun, and frustrates the hell out of ranged users

since I just got some components to craft a knuckler with a base damage of 50-180 with lower ham costs I doubt I will ever take them off.
