Howdy all,
I am still in the works of Mastering TK, I am currently 0 1 3 1 and I am so far likeing it. But I have problems sometimes dueling against people with ranged guns etc...Heres a story:
I was in Theed and decided to kill sometime so I duel a Master Bounty Hunter (we where both unbuffed) and Right off the bat I took at least 3/4 of this health down with KD and Unarmed hit 2, but then he kept on running trying to use knockdown and every attack I could think of but kept on saying "out of range", I mean what should I do to prevent this in a duel..ITs stupid.. Thanks

It's not stupid, its a perfectly valid tactic for a ranged opponent to run. If they just stand there 1 on 1 they are not only going to get KD'ed, but they suffer a 3x ranged vs melee bonus, couple that with a KD bonus to damage, they're screwed. Get used to being kited. Don't use KD when chasing a kiter...use lunge...it has a much longer reach (15-20m). Only use KD when you aren't moving.

Edit: I just realized the previous poster said everything I just did...
oh well...
Melee classes SHOULD be at a disadvantage. Think about it. You're within 40m of someone with a flamethrower with nothing but your fists. By the time you get there you're probably burning to death. If you find a way to close the distance and get right on top of him, then the ranged has the disadvantage. Thats just how its balanced.
Use dizzy/lunge 1 (or 2 if you have Master Brawler...lunge has a much greater range than knockdown) to get them to at least stop for a second, if not fall down. Don't forget burst run. A lot of times the guys kiting aren't using burst run, so that might take them by surprise.

Try using burst run. Also, like the previous poster said, use lunge. Don't ignore this. lunge has a 15m range and will make him kneel, allowing you to get closer. Also, don't follow the person all the time. If he turns, go to cut him off where he is going, don't just follow him through the turn. Ranged opponents will always have the advantage at range, it should be that way. We have an advantage up close. Deal with it, and try to develop ways around it. There is nothing wrong with running away while shooting (kiting). I'd do it if I have a gun, and any ranged person would be stupid AND dead if they didn't.
Also, if you have warcry2 (it has a 20m range), you can delay him until you get close enough to hit him.

Run into a building or behind a large solid object. then force him to come to you. If that doesn't work try to surprise them with a burst run.

first thing to do is intimidate him, then dizzy....that way you can KD him more easily with lunge

I think the original poster may have experienced the error that we often get when engaging a ranged profession. You run up (either with burst run or no), the distance reads 5-10 meters, but you still see the "TARGET IS OUT OF RANGE" message.
The only advice I can give you is the same as the one that has been pointed in here: (1) warcry, (2) lunges, (3) cut him off if you know where he/she is going, (4) don't follow, turn around and go the other way, if he does follow then turn back using burst run to catch him.
All in all, it is not a bad deal considering we get damage modifiers if we catch them up close (like, inside a forward base, for example)
.
Peace.

Get master brawler. Instead of a 15m posture down attack that does the same damage as a regular hit, you get a 20m knockdown attack that does triple damage.

Try using the /follow command while fighting. That way if the mob or player starts to run, you automatically start following him. I can't stand
it when mobs run away and I have no ranged attack. I use this all the time during PvE but not sure if it'll work in PvP.

" I use this all the time during PvE but not sure if it'll work in PvP."
Not well, it's not very precise and it's really hard when you have to be within 4m of the other person.
