Thread: TKA vs Commando and the new patch

Let me start off by saying I'm a master TKA. As it stands now I can usually take a hit or two from a commando's flame attack. SOE is going to change the damage to ranged in the new patch. Once that happens it seems like it's one hit incaps for all melee classes versus a commando. As it stands now I can take a commando out about 1/2 the time (and then look to get killed to stop the **edit** burning..sigh) because my toughness mitigates the damage.Am I worrying about nothing? Any word on how SOE is going to address this? Kiting is bad enough but to be outclassed in melee combat vs a ranged player is just plain wrong.

if you get within 16m of a commando that has his flamer pointed at you, i suggest get behind a corner.

And the whole outclassed in melee combat bit, I dont understand what you mean by that.

I dunno, the way I was killing master commandos as a 0-1-2-1 tk was kinda fun. Since everyone else was getting completely devastated by them.

What they need to do is change melee toughness so it stacks across all the professions and also make it so that it impacts ranged damage.

Galperin- You can get shot through corners. So basically you're saying that as a melee class I should run and hide with my tail between my legs? Great advice. Glad I spent the points so I can run. Maybe TKA should have a whole tree dedicated to burst run efficiency.

Telak- As a low level TKA the only way you are beating a commando is due to your toughness and sneaking up on him. IE your getting lucky. When they change the damage type from melee to ranged you willget one hit killed- alot.

As far as my TKA alt is concerned I really like how toughness reduces heavy weopon dmg. W/o that dmg reduction it would be a nightmare to fight commandos.

That beeing said my rifleman gets the short end of the stick because he takes 2.5 times the dmg from heavy weopon specials. I have been hit in excess of 3k dmg in pvp by commandos.

I think the best solution might be to just leave the commando attacks melee and remove the rifle penalty.

as a TKM commando all i can tell you is to play smarter

FT average a 3.5 (rare) to 4.8 delay between shots...this is longer if the guys used flame single on you (which he prolly will if he wants the fight to go fast - you can tell if he did by the change in animation)

so after the first shot you have a delay to hit him with KD or blind (i would recommend blind...you can get at least one or 2 in b4 the next shot an considering the accuracy of FT blind will wreak havoc on the guy's shots)

if the commando is trying to kite you with FT then he prolly doesnt kno his class b/c the accuracy becomes even worse when you are moving and i would send in a rock beetle to change his point of attack then risk a rush on him

if the guys has FT 4 it becomes a bit more tricky b/c the delay becomes shorter but the kicker is to count after that first shot....

hope this helps

TKA/Commando here, nice to see someone in another profesion knowing how to get anoyne in my main profession (no offence meant to anyone else). If you use these tactics and keep moving until the commando uses a specal (he will likely miss if you move) you will stand a good chance.

And since the HWs are getting fixed to now be ranged weapons instead of melee might change accuracy at point blank range. Hence actually helping you, and if you equip a weapon you have good ranged defense with (if you have one) and wait till they attack with a specal you will take less dammage.

i'll give you a helping hand there sir charles. He means that toe to toe vs any class in the game the TK should always come out on top. it should be a close fight vs other melees, but the TKM is THE dmg dealer at close range of this game.

What he means is that the comando has range and melee, he is a hyrbrid, his melee is flame thrower, because it hits hard at melee range, much like a TKM, and infact was calculated as melee dmg because of this. But hte rifflemen were getting one shot incaped, so they are chaging this. Now melee will get one shot incaped. so we will be outclassed by a range class on our turf, at close quarter range. our only advantage is tossed out the window.

thats what he is talking about.

I got lucky and killed a commando the other day. My skills were 0/1/2/0. As soon as I incapped him, I became incapped. When someone healed me back to life I was still on fire.. but luckily there was a river near by. Now I have 0/1/3/0 so I think I would've had an even better chance with him now.

are you agreeing with that statement b/c you prolly need to fight a few more commandos and see

commandos are pure dam but now much more

the accuracy blos to begin with and sometimes i cant even get a good shot off while getting hit by anything...throw in the standard delay and you got a sitting duck at 0m

toe to toe if a tka gets in close enough he should own a commando unless the commando is using a launcher pistol and has master pistoleer under his belt

if he isnt then he isnt doing something rite....

This seems to be getting a bit off topic. As it stands now I can beat high levelcommandos about 1/2 the time. Well by beat I mean a tie. I kill him then the fire damage incaps me. I'm fine with that once they fix the burn damage. I'm talking about after they change the damage type to ranged. I've been hit with 475 dmg hits from specials. If my toughness didn't mitigate that hit I'd have been one hit incapped.

All those talking about the speed and accuracy of commando weapons your talking about the low levels. I've dueled at least 1/2 dozen high level commandos and PvP at least a dozen more. I rarely see their specials miss. In the duels they always got off their flame special.
