Thread: Wookiee TKA...to be or not to be!!!
Well i am have recently picked up brawler and amheading down the unarmed tree. Ihave become very interested with it and im thinking that i wanna go all the way to TKM...
My only concern is i am a wookiee and can't wear armor... it this a good or bad thing???
I was told that being wookiee would be perfect for TKA because of the extra stats, but compaired to armor those extra stats don't mean much.
Forthouse of you that actually wear armor or have worn armor as TKA/TKM i would like to find out if its a good or bad idea and why you think so. I may wan't to create a different race if it is wise to wear armor as TKM.
While you will do well when you get close, I've found that the armour is good for mitigating the damage while I'm trying to get into a fighting position.
Unfortunately Wookie is somewhat at a disadvantage with the armour restrictions but the Devs have stated that they will attempt to address this with clothing. How and when I have no idea.
Ok, so basiclly i will suck in PvP without armor or are there ways around this... From alot of my TKM friends they say that they HATE and i mean HATE armor. One freind of my told me they spent 200k on a set of composite and they never use it becuse of the ham cost
what i would really just like to know is:
Wookiee TKM: GOOD IDEA...why
Wookiee TKM: BAD IDEA...why
AND
Armor: GOOD IDEA...why
Armor: BAD IDEA...why
i'm a wookie tka
right now, yes wookiees aren't very viable creatures in high-level combat compared to somebody of equal level with armor on. The ham increases aren't enough to offset the advantages of armor.
so if you don't mind starting from scratch again, yea....
People who say armour is useless have:
a) Never done any PvP
b) Found out how to use armour effectively
c) Never been shot in the head by a Dark Trooper
Tons fall into category a, and there are lots in category b.
With armour I can solo the last Garm Bel Iblis mission which has 2 Dark Troopers, 1 Stormtrooper Commander and 3 regular Stormtroopers.
With all of them firing on me at once I can still kill them all. Take away my armour and I think it would be very much touch-and-go and have to rely on tactics ( which I've done but it's more time-consuming and the usual kill-stealers appear ).
Armor is a prequisite to TKA.
Try tanking a Giant Baz lair solo. Without armor youd only be able to fight 1 bazz at a time before youd have to run and meditate. Not to mention Bazzs are pack hunters and attack 2-3 at a time.
Re-make your character.
If you wanna make a pure melee char. Go with a Trandoshan. There the best TKAs, but once you get to master level it really doesnt matter what race you are as long as your not a wookie.
Armor is our lifeline.

whenever u see a teraskasi duel they have absolutely no armor on cause it messes up the stats - they are buffed - and powerboosted - and ready to go , so if your a wookiee (like me) go for it with those extra stats it will be awsome
Just some info from my experiances. I'm a wookiee TKM.
For the most part wookiees make pretty good TKA's because most TKA's don't bother to wear armor in the first place. However if you plan to solo alot I highly suggest getting a secondary profession which can compliment your combat profession very well. The two most popular are either Doctor, or Creature Handler. As a doctor/tka you can buff your stats high enough to take on some of the highest end mobs and if you get in trouble you can use a stim. As a CH you can send your pets into attack first so that they pull most of the dammage while you go in and finish off the attackers one by one.
If you plan to group I highly suggest not getting into a group completely filled with pistol jockies and other ranged players. It's very important for you to have at least one other melee player to help distribute the dammage. Most creatures get confused when confronted with a group of players, they tend to attack meleers first, this means if your the only melee character around your going to be spending most of your time incapped, or at the cloning center if there are no docs around to rez you. Having another melee player in the group helps to confuse the creatures. They don't know who to attack first so typically they attack you both which gives you the extra time needed to finish off the beast before getting incapped or killed.
One of the more annoying things I've learned as a wookiee TKM is that night sisters suck. Last time I was on dathmir had a nice new PSG MK3 with a 30% energy dammage reduction across the board. When I accidentally ran into one of the more sinister night sisters. She shot at me for somewhere along the lines of 2600 dammage to my action pool, and completely fried my new PSG MK3. Needless to say I was a bit annoyed and ever since I've been requesting some type of low level armor to protect wookiees from such attacks. No mob in the game except perhaps jedi should be able to one shot kill a wookiee TKM equiped with a PSG MK3. And apparently I've gotten my wish. The developers last chat log stated that they were planning on adding in a bunch of new wookiee clothing and some low end armor for them to wear. We'll see how it turns out.
I'm a wookiee TKA, and have no problem tanking...
All you have to do is intimidate and stun, lowers the mob's damage more than 50%...
Wookiee is a very good idea, 'cause you get the bonuses to your stats. Who cares about armour... heh
and
In the first months of the game it didnt matter. The only armor out there was bone armor. That did what... 5-12% reduction. lol Sorry but and I think the masters can agree with me. Wookies are at a serious disadvantage because of the armor thing. My guild Armorsmith is making 65% all, 80% kinetic resist armor. Now add a 30% slice on that. Do the math.
If you have 90% resist....
Creep hits 1000
armor protects 910 dam
you only get hit for 90 dam.
first of all most creeps dont hit for 900.
They hit for 150-500. Nightsisters can hit for 2000-5000.
Yes I understand that wookies can use buffs and spices.
But they cant handle the damage at that level.
Wookies start with points in CH. They make GREAT creature handlers. But as a brawler this will be a mistake once you hit the really competive level.
and PVP
You can not take a BH torso/eye shot with out armor. It makes all the difference in the world. Without armor you will definately die in 2-3 shots. The goal for a good TKA is to close the distance and lunge/kd/dizzy before your incapped. Theres also warcry an intimidate. But a duel happens so fast that if you cant close that distance quickly YOUR IN TROUBLE.
I think its wrong an unfair, but there are so many times wrong and unfair with this game. But you asked a question earlier and I wanted to give you a proper answer.
Id make a new char if i wanted to pursue brawler in your postition. The wookie armor the devs are talkin about would have to be par with the armor thats out there now for you to be as effective as anyone else. And I cant see a padded pre sliced 80% kinectic resist armor coming out for the wookies.
Have fun
And please understand this game is about fun. If your having fun with your wookie. KEEP HIM. Just be aware of the issues thatll plague you in the future.

We don't need freaking armour.
We have bonuses to our stats, and if you have powerboost, you should be fine on the long grind to Master.... remember, intimidate and stun is your friend.
Go with wookiee, you shouldhave no problem with it... I like it better than all the other species.
For example... If you're fighting kamuriths onDathomir, which can easily do 400-600 damage to a wookiee, and if you have good medic skills, powerboost is on, and you successfully intimidate and stun it, it will hit you nothing over 50 damage. It's all a easy road from there.
I don't see the disadvantage to wookiees with armour...
supposidly wookies are gonna get some love soon, but dont hold your breathe. in almost any case a wookie is a bad choice for any profession
doesn't matter if its Tka or not, in alot of cases its always wise to use armor.
