Thread: /Con evaluation for TKA seems completely out of whack

I just started TKA novice for my testcentre character and I have to say I was most impressed with just how potent it is even at this early stage. Something which bothers me though is how drastic a step up it is from unarmed even when you use VKs that your uncertified for. I mean a novice TKA hits for 1200 damage using unarmedhit2 and around 700-800 with things like stun and blind. Thats more than 3 times what is possible as unarmed plus you're so much faster it's scary. With unarmed 4 you struggle to take down anything with 1500 points of HAM and around CL15. Yet as TKA novice you're able to scrape through a victory against something around CL30 with 10k of HAM.

What I find amusing though is that you really can't rely on the con system with this profession, red con mobs can be dispatched with ease as long as they have around 4k of HAM. I know there's a combat pass going and I don't think it would kill the devs to take a note of how useless the cons are for this profession. By my estimate a TKA novice is equal to at least CL20 or CL25 so all mobs of that rank should be white cons not red.

Anyway, nice melee profession you have here folks. Looking forwards to progressing through it.

my understanding is that the /consider command is ( to quote you ) "completely out of whack" for every combat class, not TKA only.

Good luck with you characteron TC.

Yeahh check the skill mods!

70+ damage alone at TKA novice!

They should also be at Unarmed 3 and 4!

But on the other hand - TKA is hard to reach... it takes a long time to get to novice, and maybe thats why we are a bit stronger than most others?

Well... I have been a heavyswordsman and pikeman before and both of them we much easier to get up to novice to!

Dunno about fencer though!

The /con system is completely out of whack for all professions. I was a Master Rifleman before TKA, and I could take down red cons easily - even without conceal shot.

I've also noticed that group /con difficulty is averaged rather than additive - if I group with a CL 10 pet or a novice elite, things that are white to me alone become yellow or red to the group. This makes no sense, as the encounter has either not changed in difficulty or become easier with the addition of an extra gun/ fist/ claw/ whatever.

I've come to think of /con as a measure of the amount of preparation needed to win the encounter. Blue or below can be won AFK, white might require some healing or a few specials, yellow usually needs a powerboost and/ or food plus special use, and red pretty much requires specials, powerboost, food, and/ or buffs depending on "how red" the mob is.

The dev's view of red being "instant death" has never been - and likely will never becompletely accurate.

I am also a tk on TC, at 2132 now. I think that the reason that the con systemseems "out of whack" is the simple fact that we are tanking. If it were not for armro, we would not last long enough to take down a 15k mob. Kd also helps, but that is beside the point.

/con and the color coded symbols are "out of whack" for anyone who uses a weapon. Having played a pure crafter for awhile though it does match their abilities quite well.

tka seems to have the steepest progression curve when hitting novice. you go from being totally weak to actually killing crazed durni's with one hit!

the other melee prof's could do this at their beginner stages. at only novice swordsman with one of my charaters, i can do 2000 dmg to a mob that isn't kd'ed, this isn't including the medium ap bonuses. ham cost is only around 80 with the way my HAM is set up. downside is that it's extremely inaccurate... for now!

Yeah I dunno, I'm calling it cruel and unusual. But you'd think with such a nice bonus at novice they could break that up a litlte and spread it down lower.

I think the general consensus among alot of TKA's is that were too weak at pre-novice, and too powerfull at novice given how weak we were before novice. There is no smooth or escalated progression between student and novice. Like you find with all the other combat professions. With TKA it's rather abrupt.

First, I think that /consider has absolutely nothing at all to do withhow hard it is to defeat a target. It is simply a relation in MOB levels compared to your aquired skills. If you only have Novice TKA, and you /consider a Mountai Squill, it will be red, because it's "creature level" is muchhigher than your "skill level". It's just a number, really, and it has nothing at all to do with how a combat will play out. How a combat will play out is based on the skills and equipment and stats of your character compared to the skills and equipment and stats of your opponent, and the tactics and random events that occur.

Secondly, about the substantial increase in power at Novice TKA. I think that other than the +70 unarmed damage bonus, it's mainly due to the fact that suddenly you're actually certified to use the Vibro Knuckler, so now you're not only getting the increased damage from that weapon, you're also getting the extra damage from the light armor piercing.

I have to honestly say that reaching Novice TKA is quite refreshing after the unarmed brawler grind. It makes you feel like you've actually gotten somewhere, and since you're just a Novice, you feel like you can only go up from there!

Ican easily take on red cons with novice marksman, novice medic, and a CL10 pet to tank. I just shoot the mob and heal the tank. Although, at novice marksman just about everything is a red con 8D

I find the con system works for TKA if you are taking on 3 white cons, then it is an even match, 3 yellow cons, then it looks tricky, you might die =D

My alt is TKM, and part of the fun going up the TK tree was seeing how fast some of the con colors changed to easier. But on red cons, I'd check the HAM of the critter to see if it was 'really' red or just 'killable' red. A great friend who used to be Master Ranger remembers a lot of CLs, and gave me advice on what I could and could not kill as I climbed the tree. Did a lot of levelling on Endor with pistol IV for the bleed shot. He told me to not try bluurg raptors. When I saw my first one, and checked the HAM which was over 50k I think, I sent him a /tell 'no way would I fight something with that much HAM right now!' He asked me how I knew the HAM it had. Turns out, he didn't know that if you hover your cursor over the target bars in the upper right corner that you can see the creature's HAM. He'd been fighting for months without ever knowing how strong the enemies were, just their difficulty level. So for once I was able to give this mentor friend of mine some advice myself!
