Heh...looks like a Wushu free-form demonstration or competition. Not quite familiar with the form of Kung-fu, and because it's basically a pattern demo, it's more artistic than practical...

Still, I'd hate to get on the wrong side of that guy...

The screaming stimulates a nerve that gets your adrenaline gland pumping. Rather important for getting all the way around back to your feet.

It really is amazing how there are combat disciplines in RL that are so complex, and when pitted against one another make any video game seem pitiful. To see a real swordsman do a demo, or if you have seen the videos of 8 year old kids whiping a stave so fast you cant see it is jaw dropping. I personally have my first degree black belt in Shaolin Kenpo, but haven't set foot back in a dojo for over 10 years, but if i were to do any serous display or sport combat art it would be capoeira. Those crazy brazillians, i tell ya. The constant movement while in combat buildstheir endurance and stamina to incredible levels, allowing them to win simply because they can out last most opponents. Mixing Capoeira with Judo, and youve got a lightfooted dodge artist who knows how to toss 350 lb guys like ragdolls.

The biggest problem with arial kicks such as the ones displayed by the young man in the video is that they leave you incredibly vulnerable, even though its for short periods of time. Any time you have 1 or no legs at all on the ground you are asking to become someones shotput. Especially for someone of that size. If any have ever been in the marines, or any elite military combat unit that courses in hand to hand combat, the major rule is never kick. Too many things can go wrong the moment you take one foot off the ground.

Very nice though, I give props to team paul mitchell they pretty much own ISKA. I like watchingperformances (I dont like to call em katas)like that, however I'm a ground fighter personally, BJJ is where it's at. Man they should have a ground fighting/grappling proffession lol, I would love to see my character get someone or something into an armbar! rofl.

I've watched best kick competitions before and that's what that looked like. I think it was just an exibition of some of his best kicks. I don't think it's really any style as it is more of a few styles in one show of inverted kicks.

That guy is one of the best i've seen though.

The best you've seen? You need to go to www.Maslinc.com. Check out John Su, or if you can find any of Jon Valera. Valera retired a few years ago, but still the best there ever was. And for the record, he was doing a form at a sport karate tournament. There is no way he would accually fight like that. Of course then again, he could, but he would lose in about 10 seconds. If any of you saw the XMA speical on the discovery channel it showed an old friend of mine Matt Mullens training in form, weapons form, and at the end it showed sparring. Watch him do allthe flashy fancy flash kicks and 540's and 720's, then watch him spar. He doesn't even spin. He lost in the fight they showed (to one of my students from team Straight Up) but notice that neither of them spun once. What you saw him do was just for show, in no way at all meant for accually fighting. And I will garentee that it is not wushu, I am pretty sure thatSteve Teradatrains in anamerican style of TKD, but just to be sure I will ask my instructor what it is since they are on the same team. I am sure he has his number or email around. Go to http://www.maslinc.com/Pages/Profiles_IndAthPage.cfm?AthleteID=60for more info on Steve.

I just spoke with my instructor. It is an americanized style of Tang Soo Do. Which is almost identical to TKD. My bad. By the way, I may have gone off on a rant with that last post, sorry about that. I didn't mean for it to sound anything at all the way it sounded to me when I read it myself. I was only giveing some info for you guys. Sorry again.

I can't remember his name, but he is a member of Team Paul Mitchell Karate. They are the best of the best in the sport karate world. They compete on the N.A.S.K.A. circuit. The style that he was doing was not kung fu or wushu. It is an american style of Tae Kwon Do. If I remember his name I will let you know. If you want some more cool clips like that go to www.maslinc.com.

Interesting...I am a Tae Kwon-Do black belt...and I have not come across this form before, though, now that you mention it, some of the kicks and hand strikes are familiar.

Perhaps the older form of the art, the original form brought to the Americas by the founder, Gen. Choi Hong Hee...

I still would not like to get on the bad side of that guy...I doubt if I could even match his speed, much less, his balance and fitness...
