I'm reminded of a saying "Lifes not hard, you just suck at it."

I'm sorry if my title and opening are harsh but after just doing a thorough read of this forum I think most of you need a good hard kick in the arse. TKA's are still totaly usable and fun to play. Granted this is just my opion so let me explain why I say this.

Selwyn seems to be coping a lot of flak for saying she still uses and enjoys her tka char. I agree with her, why is everyone having so much trouble adjusting to this change? Ok, kd costs are up, now i can only solo one red at a time. Thats probably for the best. I've been soloing nyms on lok since the patch with no problems. 3-4k xp a kill and they sometimes drop some VERY interesting loot now. Will let you find it, just don't expect to find many. Some of you tka's who have taken up begging may be intersted to know you can get 16k per mission now if you could manage to get over how badly nerfed you've been.

All thats needed to kill nyms is kd/dizzy. After that i rarely have to apply kd again till the end of the fight when he tries to run off. Most time during the fight the nym spends lying on the ground from the dizzy effect. Non humanoids is a bit harder because the dizzy doesn't effect them as badly, you will need to keep reapplying kd. Just use it very sparingly, you should still have half your ham at the end of a fight with most reds if you play it smart. Just remember, the days of keeping 3 mobs knocked down at the same time are gone.

Pvp post patch is the most fun I've had in this game. Tka's have a high success rate now. My ratio of kills to my own deaths is about 10:1. With the damage reduction we have time to close the distance while taking a few hits. Let me just state quickly that playing tka without some medic skill is like fighting with one hand behind your back. With the reduction in damge done in pvp stimpacks are a very powerful tool now.

As for the getting in range problem, yes it is exceedingly difficult to get in range to pull off a kd. However, it is surprisingly easy to get within lunging range. Two quick lunges hold them in place long enough to close and hit them with kd/dizzy. At that point the fight has been won, you just need to hang around till you finish beating the ham out of him. If he manages to run use your mighty lunge to bring him down again.

On to the question of what a tka could contribute to a big group hunting dark jedi, kimos etc. A tka can still be very usefull group fighting kimo's. Now you know you will be destroyed if you get too close and you only have one decent range attack available. So you can either stand on the sidelines telling everyone how useless you are or you can stay outside it's attack range and keep lunging it. This holds it still and you take no damage, while all your ranged groupmates bring it down without having to run in circles. Now I admit, this gives you no xp, but you will be very usefull to the group. If you want xp leave the group and go solo nyms.

I haven't fought a dark jedi myself but I read selwyn is going out to try shortly so we should get some positive feedback on that soon. I hear dark jedis have high resists to posture change so what works for kimo's might not work on them.

I've gone on enough but suffice it to say tka is still a very viable class. Not to mention combining it with something like medic/ch. There are many ways to play the game and any class will be partly what you make of it.

So to all the people complaining ask youself, is tka really that hard or do you just suck at it?

Ya its alot of fun to be using a 1 damage lunge on everyhting... and not get exp...

try doing non humanoids which 99% of the game monsters are.....

Also you obviosly arnt a master or even close...

we had our damage cut by1/3-3/4 stead of beign boosted as was told...

we went from hitting for nearly 400 normal attacks to 200-300

in PVP that drops to 49-200 styled while a pistolleer still does 300-500 with a good pistol and can spam KD and Stopping shot over and over.....

we can lunge and dizzy yes its a good combo... but once we get them pinned even with putting your VK back on it takes a year to kill them while thier freinds heal them....

KD damage bonus does not seem to include dizzy/lunge in its calculations.. so im still hitting for only 50-150 while hes laying on his back....

this is not balance this is not fun... we were very close to balanced before... KD needed a timer put on it so you couldnt stack it and we woulda been balanced....

now if we are still do for a damage increase stead of a damage decrease with and without styles then by all means fix that.... but to say your TK master is just peachy as it is is redicolus.. a freaking commando can hit harder than me with his broken weps right now... and be more useful and wanted ina group since a medic doesnt have to baby sit him...

I still play the game, I still play my TKA, and I enjoy every minute of it. The people out there complaining that they are dying to single blue and white cons must be trying to spam a special or something ... I have not once died to a blue or white con mob, before or after the change. I can still take yellow cons with some work, and I can do the occasional red (but its never a sure thing).

I really dont see what the problem is. It was incredibly easy to be a TKA before - we were BAH-RO-KEN. Now we've been knocked down a notch, from stupidly awesome to just pretty **edit** good.

I think you have deluded yourself. All of the ranged knockdown skills cost less than 120HAM with their weapon equiped. Compare that to my 158HAM without vibro knucklers. Add knucklers, I get a whopping 567HAM! Also know that they recently fixed weapon experimentation, so expect that 120HAM for ranged to drop pretty low, in theory all the way to 0. As for 567, there is NO amount of experimentation that will reduce this value significantly. Also note that I have my Strength and Quickness maxed on my character, so those values are as low as they go (without buffs).

The fact is that they are catering to ranged. I don't know why either. Ranged will win 1v1 versusa TKAin any scenario, given capable players. Ranged can spam Knockdowns all day long and not worry about HAM costs, this isn't the case for TKA, even if we don't use VKs. TKA is the only class that weapon swaps are mandatory for using specials. A TKA's combat scenario has been reduced to trading hits; granted, we do have skills that alter the rate at which we trade hits, but we've also been reduced to only participating in 1v1 combat. TKA's nolonger have the skills necessary to survive deadly encounters that ranged professions have.

Don't get me wrong, I like challenge. I'm just tired of having my valuable skills taken away, while other professions keep much more powerful and exploitable skills. The combat of Melee vs. Ranged is already way in favor of ranged.

Fairly good post, yet I fealt I must say a few things:

We are still the only class in the game that has to unequip something to do an attack and then re-equip it, just not really enjoyable to do this in the heat of a battle. We shouldn't be forced to do this. Although for the time being we have no better choice, do not let the devs think that we are OK with this. It's just simply not acceptable.

Balance of the KD costs among classes should also be taken into account and should not simply be settled for.

As an example I would like to bring up one quick situation. I was fighting Grondas today on Corellia. Weak creatures and very slow, high HAM though. They conned blue when I arrived on the scene. The battle plan went something like this:

Unequip; KD; blind; equip; wait; unequip; KD; equip; etc...

Before the gronga had reached half HAM, I was unable to do any more KDs. Just not right. No blue should be able to cap a TKA in a 1v1 match unless that TKA just got their TKA status and is a complete moron. Those of us who aren't brand new to the profession shouldn't have these troubles.

I've been doing quite a bit of PvP lately and I must say that I am almost completely satisfied in this area except for our old bugs that just were never fixed the first time around. When Ijump someone and hit KD from a distance of 2m, I shouldn't getan "out of range" response. Cost me a few lives today when the guy immediately got me both bleeding and set me on fire before I could get one single KD to work. I initiated the fight mind you, I had the first attack and got ripped of on it. And on a few occasions, when the KD did work, the body (while not getting up but laying flat on its back) continued to slide across the ground away from me. These bugs make it harder to PvP than the HAM costs ever do.

Don't get me wrong, I'm the first to admitour class has problems that need fixing, I'm just tired of all these people saying tka's are useless now when thats clearly not the case.

Yes having to unequip vk's before using specials is a pain and should be brought in line with ranged users ham costs. But for now it's all we can do and we still kick a fair bit ofbutt doing it.

Yes using lunge for 1hp damage and no xp is not much fun, I was only suggesting that as a way to contribute in a group fighting extremely high end monsters like kimo's and dark jedi. But for now it's all we've got. By all means we must keep making noise to get these things fixed but sitting on your arse in the meantime whinging about how much you suck isn't helping anyone.

Boosting your secondery stats that govern ham costs for specials helps a lot. You shouldn't run out of ham in a fight just from doing occasional kd's, unless you fail a few in a row. Then you'll be glad you invested in some medic skill and high quality stims no?

With the pvp thing I can't make this clear enough, NEVER use kd without a couple of lunges first. With the client/server lag thing it's very easy for them to just be out of range without appearing to be. Use lunge to make sure they stay still till you get close enough for a kd. Also, depending on how your hams looking and whether you have medic skill to heal up afterwards, try chaining a bunch of unarmed hits on them. Does impressive damage very quickly if you need to wrap the fight up in a hurry.

Just make sure whatever you do your having fun. I'm loving my tka and would never consider switching.

Good luck with your whining, I'm gonna go play my uber nerf TKA the same way as before and still have fun with it /shrug. Learn how to use all your skills and you may excell at this game.

Come on over to my server and I will gladly educate you on my skill at TKA. My skill at TKA has nothing to do with my feelings about this nerf. This goes for any fool who thinks that somehow being accepting of the patch makes them a better player. I scoff at such a notion.

When all the noobs who ignorantly go about their merry way, hunting the same way they always did on the noob planets try to take a group to say Dathomir and take out one of the lairs there, I'm afraid they will be in for a rude awakening. Have fun fighting an Arch-Witch which pre-patch resisted about 14 out of 15 knockdowns.

Grats on killing giant baz nitches (aka retarded mutant turkeys) with zero resistances. Hell you even have a damage bonus on hitting them. BFD.
