Thread: Would you prefer a high min or a higher max on VKs: 120-141 or 44-218.

I have a pair of looted NS vibro motors that I am trying to decide if I should get switced. I thought The TKA boards would be a good place to get an idea. The stats could be as follows:

Unswitched
120-141 1.6spd

Switched
44-218 1.6spd

What would you prefer. Any input is appreciated.

I'm not here to debate the items in question. They do not create an item with illegal stats. They have also been on the forums for over 1 week. I am just here looking for opinions.

120-141

and

44-218

Both pretty much on par...go with the one with higher condition or go with the 44-218 one that one seems more legitimate to me for some reason...

I would prefer the one that doesn't eat my HAM as fast.

They're almost identical

With the DPS being 163.125 and 163.75 respectively, use one til it bust then use the other

can you explain that?

I can't explain the math behind it (as i cant remember), but the basic idea with melee mitiagiton is that the larger the range between the min and max dmg, the more melee mitigation will reduce the damage done.

kk thx, never really knew the purpose behind it, except for the fact that it obviously reduced dmg.

The damage per second done.

Melee mitigation only affects the max damage of the weapon, therefore a higher minimum damage weapon will have a better DPS then a high max low min weapon.

"can you explain that?"

There are two kinds of mitigation... Ranged and melee. Melee mitigation defends against melee attacks and ranged mitigation defends against ranged attacks. They aren't skill bonuses, they're abilities, which means that if you have the same kind of mitigation from two professions they won't stack. However, mitigation stays active no matter what weapon you have wielded, so if you have ranged mitigation and wield a melee weapon the ranged mitigation still works. You can have both ranged and melee mitigation at the same time.

Both types of mitigation work the same. There are 3 levels of mitigation, and each level mitigates a different amount of damage. Mitigation 1 reduces damage by 20%, Mitigation 2 reduces damage by 40%, and Mitigation 3 reduces damage by 60%.

However, mitigation doesn't reduce the whole damage done, which is why a high minimum damage is good. Mitigation only reduces the range of damage between the minimum and maximum damage values on a weapon.

So let's take your weapons for example. Let's say you're fighting someone who is a Master Fencer, he has Melee Mitigation 3. He reduces the damage range of your weapon by 60%.

A weapon doing 120-141 has a damage range of 21. 60% of 21 is ~13 points of damage, so the range is reduced to 8, which means your weapon does 120-128 damage.

A weapon doing 44-218 has a damage range of 174. 60% of 174 is ~104 points of damage, so the range is reduced to 70, which means your weapon does 44-114.

So what's better? 120-128 or 44-114?

Wow, and thank you. That helped make my decision. I had been leaning the other way, as I was assuming it would be easier to sell with the higher number. But it just wouldn't make sense.
