personally i read a lot of star wars books, over 50 as fo this time, and i am 98% sure i remember reading a few places that Teras Kasi was the form of fighting used by the Hapans, from Hapes (obviously), and that there wasn't anything tremendously outstanding about it besides it being a fighting style

the second thing i have researched comes from http://www1.theforce.net/cuswe/search.asp?search=teras+kasi , one of the most reliable places i know for star wars information and the search reads as follows:

Teras Kasi
translated into Basic as "steel hands," this weaponless martial art was created and perfected by the Bunduki.

also i didnt know what bunduki was so i decided to research it and found this: (also from the same site)

Bunduki
this planet, located in the Pacanth Reach, was conquered by the Epicanthix people. (SESB, AE)

Bunduki
a race of beings which practice the martial art of teras kasi or "steel hands." Note that MedStar I: Battle Surgeons indicates that the Bunduki were human, although the Epicanthix have also been identified as practitioners of teras kasi. (SE, MBS)

it was also the name of a pretty horrible PS1 game...*shudders*

not sure if this has already been posted but hey

I just read one of the NJO series books (agents of chaos 1 or 2) and it mentioned the Hapans. C3PO mentioned their fighting style and said "itis deadly and brutal but nothing like the Teras Kasi martial artists".

I know a lot of these authors contradict each other so someone else may have said another thing.

I just finished reading the Star Wars book entitled Shadow Hunter about Darth Maul. There are many referenced to Darth Maul's moves and disciplines being based in the Teras Kasi Arts.

The hapan fighting thing was completely different from Teras Kasi. That was in a New Jedi Order book where Isolder was challenged to a duel to a political enemy...something Arkon. The duel was fought hand to hand though.

As far as I'm concerned Teras Kasi doesn't have any real place in the Star Wars Universe. It was made up for the Tekken clone fighting game, Masters of Teras Kasi. Which I actually liked, but I also love Tekken and Star Wars so go figure. Its mentioned more recently in the Battle Surgeons Clone Wars novel, but it seems that alot of things in those novels seem to draw on parts of SWG. Or it very well could be that I just play SWG too much and think they have a lot in common. One part of the book they mention how the fatigued doctors listen to a musician which heals some of the stress from operating on clones all day...and they also refer to some of the more obscure drinks that chefs could make in SWG before the patch. Bantha Blaster in particular.

I have no idea how it came to mean that they were the rivals of Jedi. Someone fighting hand to hand against a lightsaber seems like a particularly stupid idea to me. The droids in the battle of Geonosis showed that they could break through the Jedi defenses from ranged attacks through sheer numbers.

If anyone should have it easier against Jedi in this game, I'd think it would be ranged professions as well. Sure they can block very well 1 on 1, but when the numbers start getting higher, they don't do as well. All you'd need to do is change how the lightsaber block mod works. So instead of being a direct percentage it would scale up and down depending on how many people are attacking you. The melee attackers shouldn't be useful at all against lightsabers IMO.

One can not hurt you if they can not touch you. Simple dodge the lazer sword. Then knock it out of their hands then a jedi is a week little pion.

All good info. 5 stars. It's a welcome change to see people getting info from EU sources instead of Bubba Jo Jimbob's Wacky Star Wars web page.

To the best of my knowledge both the planet bunduki and the Pacanths reach is where the origins of Teras Kasi are based.I have read from some sources that The order of Teras Kasi were established a LLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGGG time before the Jedi Order and thus spent time keeping order in the galaxy and both to keep the Jedi and the Sith in check. The Teras kasi Artists role is more to keep BALANCE in the galaxy rather

than "chose a side".

On a lighter note for all the players on FARSTAR-EUROPE a Teras Kasi Temple is currently being put into construction on the server.

it will aim to feature the best of what the profession has to offer as well as some extra features

trainers

meeting point for profession hunts

Vendors to provide THE best gear for the proffession

It will also act as and advice centre for newer players who need assitance with the art or perhaps just some in game pointers :-)

Hopefully we'll be off the ground in the next couple of weeks but I 'll keep you all posted.

Also If anyone would like to Help with this venture please send me an "In-game mail"

this is the bottom line on the TK/jedi debate.

jedi = samurai
TK = ninja

just take your inspiration from there, period. jedi are based on samurai and that is a *fact* whether you agree or not.

Teras Kasi is usedin Shadow of the Empire. The Pike Sisters and Prince Xizor both practiced the Teras Kasi art. It says in the book the Pike Sisters take out 8 heavily armed and highly trained special Stormtroopers without breaking a sweat, on their free time. Also, Darth Vader supposedly respected Prince Xizor for his skill in TK, considering him a"dangerous opponent".
