hehe thanx all for your compliments on the post, and yes SWG does draw mostly everything from either the moves, books, or comics, just in the past month i have read about 4 more SW books and each one had at least a couple things that are in SWG like one mentioned Vasarian brandy, canape, etc.
and frankly, IMHO, teras kasi and jedi dont relate at all , at least from all the "official" stuff i have looked into, although if u have information proving me wrong, please send me a link, i would love to have more knowledge on the subject *piles plate full of SW knowledge and licks lips*

Fighting someone who's trained their entire life with a "laser sword" vs. someone who may or may not have trained a good portion of their life in an unarmed fighting style. That's a pretty nasty battle and I'd still put my money on the guy with the weapon. Disarming someone is a heck of alot harder than it seems or a sensei makes it seem especially since the lightsaber can make attacks from angles and movements that are unavailable to a one or even two edged metal sword. No my friend, more than likely you've never seen a real swordmaster fight a real unarmed master. The former is rare enough these days, the latter is all to common.

I have no idea how it came to mean that they were the rivals of Jedi. Someone fighting hand to hand against a lightsaber seems like a particularly stupid idea to me.

You asked a question, I answered it.
Actually, the real answer is that it's cool. Much cooler than "Steel Hands and Feet and Sometimes Head".

A name is just a name.
that is a fairly off-the-topic post...
in all forms of martial arts, including weapons forms, kicks are used...
karate meaning "empty hand" just implies that you aren't going to use a weapon
it implies nothing about not kicking...
now with a weapons form in martial arts, the majority of the fighting is with the weapon...
in tk, "steel hand," it would lead you to believe that the hands are the deadly weapon, yet we kick more than punch... so we should have more fist attacks than punch attacks

Ok this is what i read regarding the origins of th TKA. Appologies if some of it is a little vague, my memory isn' too good at teh best of times, and i can't remember where i read the information.
Tera Kasi Artist were around long before the Jedi and basically ruled the Galaxy, they took slaves (Jedi) and trained them in the basic use of the force (predction speed etc) to do there bidding. As the Jedi became more powerful the Sith formed in rebellion to the slavery and fought the TKA killing most of them over time as they continued to grow stronger with the force. The TKA's role in the universe (now significantly depleted in numbers) was to try and rectify this inbalance, and worked with the Jedi to hunt the sith, acting as guardians to the force, they sought out those Jedi that maybe or already were tempted by the dark side of the force and destroy them. with an ultimate aim of retaking their rightful place as rulers of the galaxy.
Oh and the ability to fight a Jedi armed with LS; the TKM can move faster (in attack) than the Jedi can predict and thus react to, they can avoid attacks from the LS in the same way.
Could be a load of ******* and i would post a source if i had the foggiest idea where i got it from. Either way its a nice notion, and a very cool profession in swg
For now i'm quite happy to finish by BH grind and hunt Jedi and other force wielding beings, (only challenge we get
)
