Thread: CoB Macro: Why and How?

I'm a brand new TKM. I saw another thread mention something about running a Center of Being macro constantly. I have two questions about this:

1) Why isit a good idea to do this? How is this helpful in combat?

2) How do I do it? What commands, pauses, etc.

Thanks!

It's not very effective for TKM if you ask me, but here's the macro

Macro name: CoB
/ui action clearcombatqueue;
/center;
/pause 33 (37 if you're master brawler);
/macro CoB

For a Swordsman, Center of Being improves their Counterattack ability. For Fencers it improves Dodge. For Pikemen it improves Block. CoB only lasts maybe 30 seconds at best so you have to keep doing it, a macro makes sure it is done automatically for you so that you don't have to bother.

For a TKA, we don't use the defenses of other melee professions. We only have Defense Acuity which doesn't work well, and CoB doesn't seem to have a very dramatic effect on it either. That's why TKAs aren't too enthusiastic about it.

don't use one with tkm, defense accuity is broken, it will just use up precious mind pool.

Not entirly true, it works, just no where near as well as what other proffesions deffences work. There should be some test results LordMaxx did on it back in Pub10 (I think) in the stickies however this might not be there, I can't see it at the moment though.

Personly I nearly always use it, though it doesn't work very well I go by the thought of 'every little helps'.

But is the "Little Bit" extra help it gives, worth the mind pool expenditure ?

Mind cost is something I never have a problem with however this is probably down to the fact I have a very good chef for a guildmate & so I normaly have two brandy & an Ahrisa in me all the time (I spend alot of time unbuffed as well, though my mind is always well off). It's not something I can as easily comment on, it really comes down to the player on that bit in my opinion.

Center of Being does help and it is worth the mind cost (if you use brandy or ent buffs which nullify the cost).

I saw someone say above that TK doesn't use defences like the other melee professions, only defensive acuity. IMO that staement is wrong. TK uses all the defenses that other professions use....only the defense used is randomly generated meaning as a TK you can dodge, counterattack or block attacks rather that being limited to a single defense like other professions. Center of being is a great tool for evading enemy attacks period. Test it out while fighting 5+ attackers....you can definately see the difference between using it and not using it when taking on multiple attackers.

That may be your opinion but the facts are different. Any bonuses to Dodge, Block, or Counterattack do not affect a TKA's Defense Acuity ability. And the "true" evasion skills work better. In other words, a TKA with +50 Defense Acuity will not trigger an evasion as often as a Fencer or Pistoleer with +50 Dodge, and the same goes for other such defenses.

They are for all intents and purposes completely different. When Defense Acuity does kick in, it emulates a Block, Counterattack, or Dodge, in that the effects are the same (a Block reduces damage, a Dodge completely avoids it, etc.) but you're still not actually doing it.

I like CoB, but it is much more effective as a swordsman/fencer/pikeman as they can stack mods against their respective defences, unlike tka...

I don't macro it if I'm fighting unbuffed though, only as necessary in a fight as it will drain stats - whereas if buffed you're not likely to notice...

It's also been the case for a long time now that when macro'd, it still works whilst riding a mount/bike - this didn't use to be the case, was it an intentional change and is it here to stay?

The only reason I can think of for allowing this (apart from an error) is to give you more protection whilst on a pet?

Oh last thing for the OP- check the duration of the 'pause' in your macros - it's duration varies at different levels
