Ok been working on TMK mostly because it compliments my pets nicely and because it just looks so damn cool. (I actually play the game with camera in chase mode now). I have read through several posts and occassionally I see someone say that VK's are not used much by TK (funny since its the only thing we can use). Just wondering if anyone can tell me why not. I am currently 2/4/4/3 and have tried all available attacks with and without VK / with and without buffs and with and without powerups. It seems that no matter how I try it VK's deal out much more damage (with armor piercing) much faster than my fists do.. Yeah i see that the Ham cost is greater but with Powerboost and/or a decent buff this doesnt seem to be a problem. Is there something I am overlooking?

Not.
Been a TKM for quite a long time now, in PvP i have never had a death that wasnt mind incapped. Pretty much if you are in PvP, dont use them unless it is 1vs1 and the guy is heavily armored. In PvE, if you are heavily outnumbered, dont use them. Pretty much short battle, use them, long battle dont.
17 Mind cost without, 52 mind cost with.(about, long time since i used VK's)

still not worth it as the speed and damage will be lower, negatating the benefits of using a VK

Hmm, are we talking master level only?
I dont like using my VKs, but right now, at 2.1.3.2 my bare fists arent fast enough in the slightest to compete with my VKs. Getting Power 4 will bring my speed up to +95, and I sort of hope that will fix things, but the original poster didnt seem to think so.
Mostly, Im just curious at what point do you reach the speed cap with just bare fists? I can wait for master if necessary, Im just anxious

It's funny. I use VK's a fair bit. I haven't experimented too much with not using them, but I don't PVP too much. I have notived that spaming UH3 against anything big will almost asure yourself an incap. However, what I HAVE experimented with is buffing my focus. By using a few different types of food (and doctor buffs for the non mind stats) I can raise my secondary stats to the point where I have no costs for any moves. Granted it doesn't last forever, perhaps around ten minutes. But I have other food, that last a bit longer that brings my cost for UH3 down to 10. Then it's worth it again to have a VK equiped. After having read this post, I may see how I do fighting large enemies without my knuckler see if it's just easier than eating lots of food.

i use them on big things when they are knocked down, but it depends on the situation.

Vibro only when you are at the novice, then get rid of it when you hit master. unarmed hit 3 alone with the vibro knucklers on takes away 200 HAM (OUCH! kinda reminds me of my ol' carbineer days...), when compared to not using them, which takes away about 60-70 HAM (reminds me of pistoleer ^_^)+500 more damage isn't exactly much of a difference, and there is no speed difference with them on either at master, so i suggest just not use them at master, but use em while you go up the tree.

I am not a TKA, but was thinking of leaning that way.I am currently a master pikeman on my alt, and got there using specials that are mind intensive (area attacks) and in full armor. The way I got around the long regen time was by using Vasarian brandy (eat 2, lasts for 36 minutes or so) and Muon gold or Canapes (food). This lets me use specials non-stop. Would this work with TKA also?

At master level I almost never use VKs. I will put them on for nasty fights against tough things with armor and really big hams or that I need to take down really fast. So outside of the rare use, I never use them. Regarding the ham costs though, get yourself a few crates of well made, BE enhanced, Vasarian brandy. That chef food, when well made, will let you drink two for an 800 to 900 buff to all mind stats for roughly 35 minutes. There are also additional foods you can stack on top of that to further boost your mind.
With that level buff, I almost never have to worry about my mind bar specials cost wise, with or without vks. Especially if you can get a dancer/musician buff and/or spice for emergencies.

I never worry about HAM costs. If you buff yourself correctly, as every good TKM does. There is no problem. I always use my knucklers. Also...The right stat migration means just about everything. If your mind, focus and willpower are lower than any action or health stat (unless your race does not permit it) you have not properly prepared yourself and should drop TK and do Commando. All you have to do is flame. Just flame. LOL! Sorry about the rant...I just think that nobody notices the little things that make all the difference.
