Thread: The Teräs Käsi PvP Guide

Many people have asked what is the role of TKA in PvP now with insane armor, buff and specific Kinetic Defense Armor. The sad truth is, those people wearing 80% Kinetic Armor of any kind give you the advantage you never realized you had.

How?

Most hardcore PvP players get sliced armor, armor that is sliced in effectiveness 85% or higher. Given that most armor now is designed with Kinetic at 70 or 80%...that means the damage type LEAST protected by that armor aside from stun is infact Kinetic damage. For example...

Your PvP armor gets amazing 35% effectiveness slices, bringing the base stats up to 90%, but your special layers "kinetic and stun" remain at 80% and 35%, meaning the armor protects best against every other damage type, except stun and kinetic, interesting how that works?

Now, my current template is:

Teräs Käsi Master

Master Brawler

Fencer 4/0/0/0

Pistoleer 0/0/4/0

Scout + Explore 1

Novice Medic

I currently have 9 free SP to put somewhere --

Advantages of my current template?

Intimidate 2

Lunge2

Further Accuracy + Speed

Further CoB Bonus' (whenever it gets fixed)

Now, many people laugh at the "smaller" attacks of PvP in the current age of "Mind poison, rifleman, and stun weapons."

However, whenever you encounter those Fencer stun lemmings, intimidate is your friend, reducing their damage nearly 50% which is another major damage reduction in PvP.

We all know PvP is skewered right now to mind damage, poison, disease...etc etc. TKA does have some major issues in PvP, and with most people having great KD defense, KD/Dizzy is not as reliable nor as effective as before.

However while people have KD defense they don't always have dizzy defense, many people forget about the famous "dizzy, then lunge" strikes as they are so intent on mashing only HeadHit or UH3.

When engaging in seriousPvP there are many rules you must follow:

You must be well equipped with good stun armor (to stop the lemming rifleman/fencers) and bring a good selection of Ahrisa, Brandy, Synthsteak, and the Burst Run food. Spices either consisting of Pixie or Muon, but try to not use spices.

Unless you encounter a CM/Doctor in good armor, you're probably toast. The best poisons on the market can tick at 900+ every ten seconds of unmitigated damage. If you're not a TKA + Doc or have a free Doc nearby, you're in trouble -- except your losses, and take that loss gracefully.

Against all non-DOT weapons, TKA is great, despite the immense armor, buffs, and foods of your opponent. Many people are TKA, not many are TKM anymore. Everyone is a TKA to get defenses and mediate (I hope they fix this , so chances are the people you fight in PvP are either Fencers, Rifleman, BH/Pistoleers, or maybe the Pikeman every so often with their deadly DOT-based pikes.

As the PvP battle starts, make use of Intimidate, trust me -- you'll be extremely happy you too. Don't forget unarmed Dizzy and Unarmed Stun also if you can land them, and use UH3 to blind, not as your main attack.

Ironically, your main attacks are going to be UnarmedMindHit, and...Combo1. Why Combo 1? It hits the health bar much more often for more damage per second than UH3. It's not as damaging per strike against the health bar, but it hits it much more often if you find an opponent unarmored, but buffed for some reason. (this does happen)

Also a current PvP trend is to wear only chest, helm, boots and gloves, meaning combo1 still hits the health through the exposed arm damage spots. Test it out, but your main PvP tool is UnarmedMindHit. Unless they are equally fully mind buffed, in which case Combo1, UH3, or MindHit is your bet with what 'seems to be working at that time.'

Status effects are your friends: blind (UnarmedHit3) dizzy (Unarmed Dizzy/KD2) stun (unarmed stun) intimidate (intimidate) posture down (Lunge1)

It's my suggestion you don't make KD/Dizzy your only option that many TKA do -- Dizzy/Lunge is much much more effectively, and more easily landed on your target. Don't be afraid to experiment and find what works best for you. I find myself training a lot lately in duels to see what fits where, and how the damage is distributed.

Those pesky rifleman...what to do?

  • Get yourself some good armor

  • Good mind foods/buffs

  • A specific 40% stun helmet, effectiveness sliced to bring energy resists up to over 80%

  • PSG!!! Everyone forgets the Personal Shield Generator, it is a must for TKA

Warcry...is it useful? YES!

If you are in a group for PvP, and you come across an Enemy CM, warcry him and keep him delayed until you get support from others so that you can proceed to tear him apart. The moment he lands a poison or disease on you...accept defeat, but focus on him/her taking them down and out of the fight -- killing them even if it means sacrificing yourself.

Never forget the little moves...Unarmed Stun, Unarmed Dizzy, Unarmed Lunge...these are some of your best moves. intimidate is huge! It will hamper Defense stackers, and it will absolutely eliminate the Fencer Stun threat. Plus if you get your 30-40% stun armor like you're supposed to, that fencer will be looking up to you as to claw and hack him down.

UnarmedHit3 has a greater purpose than just damage...it blinds. That is more of a reason to use it in PvP instead of hoping for damage...blind your target.

In the end, Fencers have better defense, a stun weapon, rifleman do much more damage, TKA is more "balanced" than any other, and played right...despite the insane armors, in battles without CMs, a TKA played well can emerge as victor over any target, any template.

Above all, win with dignity, and lose with grace. I've gotten many a hate-tells from people saying "KD/Dizzy is for noobs," or even ones that actually get personal...some make me want to reply and be harsh...but I simply smile, compliment them on a good fight, and then go to kill their friends.

Amazing post. That's the first intelligent post I've read in a long time. Although it doesn't help the wookiee race like me too much. I know you probably don't play a wookiee, but is there any hope for us?

Nope.

Well...wookiees do make really excellent rugs. So it's not like you're bad at everything.

The main thing I noticed about Wookies is the RL people who play them are much more devoted to their character overall it seems -- and play with more of a "fire" to be good despite armor and character defeciencies.

Confidence in PvP is great for people too!

I'm glad you all like, there was major PvP on Eclipse tonight in Theed -- and when unbuffed I de-equip my VKs for nearly no HAM cost - died a lot, killed alot...balanced in the end.
