Welcome back. I don't claim to be an expert at TK, i'm only a 0344 but i can tell you what i've done so far. I used a pretty good set of comp armor, although when you get to the upper levels you probably only need ubese because TKM is so tough and encumbrance is a tkm's worst enemy, and i did the grind on hurtons. Their fairly easy and they don't do poison damage likei think some quenkers do,plus if you've got any scout skill you can harvest the wooly hide and sell it to an armorsmith. Now the way to get the branch requiring combat xp would normally take a long time, but a trick a lot of people use is to use grenades on lairs. Get yourself a couple crates of c12's, get a hurton mission, put two stacks of 5 in the toolbar, then attack the lair with your knuckler to get it targeted and start hucking grenades like their's no tomorrow. Once you use up both stacks simply use unarmed spin, another tkm essential for grinding btw, to take out the hurtons and you will not only get the unarmed xp but around an equal amount of combat xp from the nades. A hurton lair gives about 40k combat xp i think but don't quote me on that. Now if you're really daring you can do this trick on baz nitches on dath and get 70k a lair. After you get maybe 0233 there abouts you can start gettin into solo groups and do 20k piket missions. I think its piket longhorn protectors that have 4kxpeach, so doing those will get you up to 4444 in no time. Their are probably better ways but these are my two cents. Again, welcome back and God Save the Queen.

Ofcourse you want to be a TKM!
Its lovely,i really just enjoyed the game going from TK novice to master, didnt really think of "grinding" thru it.
The most boring parts is to go from novice brawaler to novice tka really.
But get yourself a composite, speed sliced knucklers (speed is one of the most important parts while grinding it), get those first thing you do, even you arent certified for it, you will still get great speed while using it!
I were going to the tusken fort alot while i was going from novice to master, its a fun place that gives easy xp, aswell as some good loot sometimes
Just make sure you get a buff before going there. and bring food, ahrisa & brandy atleast.
also, make sure you change your ham! Max out your mind bars then split the rest up on the others!
Hope you take the TKA path all the way.

Well there are many grinding tricks... Actually... You can go get TKM in few days... From novice brawler till TKM...Loved skill
Start off with get composite armor speed sliced knucklers and some brandy and ahrisa. go to dantooine and kill quenkers and huurtons. get some missions in the terminal for get money and be sure to find them
after you got novice TKM go to squill cave on tatooine well. best if you got power techniques 1 and keep killing the squills. they spawn fast and gives good xp. i go TKM in around 20 hours on that. but worked as hell on it

Welcome back
There are many opinions on how to pursue teh grind, and some of the ones that come up all of the time are in the FAQ. Personally, I stayed on Tatooine to Unarmed 3, then went to Naboo and grouped to get Plains Tusk Cat missions for Unarmed 4 and Novice (good xp and easy kills, as long as you are planning to run missions, if not head to Endor and kill random spawns, its faster
). From Novice it really depends on what you prefer, but I did almost all of mine on Endor (last push to Master on Dath with Rancors, but that was just for a change of scenery).
Hope that helps.

I know you lot can help me, I only need a nudge - "Kill XXX on XXX and you'll crack it" would be music to my ears. I've got the time, money, friends and patience to finally crack a profession - and I think after I crack one, it will spur me onto new things.
I think its safe to say you cant go wrong with TK since the skill points are so light.
I have remastered TKa few times. The only grind issue with itis from Unarmed III to Novice.
Thats only because of the jump in XP you need opposed to the lower two boxes.
I'd sayonce you get unarmed III get your buffs, ubese, brandy-arisa-canape, whatever you prefer to feed your mind, and with your fast 1.5 speed VK in your handshit dantooine. Take regular quenkers (they dont intimidate, but you absolutly should) and grind them at 2500xp per kill until you hit Unarmed IV.
At unarmed IV take Savage quenkers and target the lairsspaming unarmedSpinAttack.
You will get to Novice as fast as possible more or less if you are solo grinding. Maybe 1-5 play sessions.
Once you get novice try out thebonuses you receive and soon you will be able to take most anything for xp as long as it doesn't poison, desease, or shoot at you. FOr me Novice to TKM is never a grind. Its a very rewarding and fun profession to level but be warned, you may never bewilling to live without it

This is exactly the point I picked up when reading your boards - you're all so helpful and nice!
Thankyou for your immense help (and anymore would be golden!). I think I've got a good jist of what to do to start off with, I'll ask my friends in game to help me as much as they can (although they are all Jedi except 1 I've heard
) - primaily, I'll get n brawler and aim to be getting those VKs asap.
By the Way, anyone here from the Eclipse server who might be able to walk around with me at first to show me some of these places you mention (and missions/mobs etc). If not, I should be fine... if I get lost/killed/eaten by a rancor I'll ask you guys for more advice.
I'd just like to apologise for wasting anybody's time, I DID read some of the stuff in the FAQS (particularly the sister professions thread) but I should have really optimised my use of it before bothering you... Sorry.
So, just to conclude, if anyone does have a character (or would like to create a chracter to help me
) on Eclipse server, please contact me on TakTah... or speak to me on here.

I stopped playing SWG in March after suffering from a very bad illness. But I'm back!
But the problem I'm suffering with is deciding what profession(s) I take on. Before I had to quit I was almost master Artisan, Marksmen and Scout. I enjoyed these professions but they all have disadvantages. Mostly I found the grinding XP difficult, not because I didn't have the willpower, but because I'd watch others do it in a day, and I'd been a member for months! Am I a lost course? I KNOW with some guidance (e.g. where to get xp faster etc) I can make it on my own and ACTUALLY master SOMETHING!
Now a very dear friend of mine on the Eclipse server pointed me in the direction of TKA, saying that it might be worth looking into. I believe her, even more so after reading your boards. BUT it's not going to be easy either (I'm sure) but I don't want to give up - I just want a fighting chance
I know you lot can help me, I only need a nudge - "Kill XXX on XXX and you'll crack it" would be music to my ears. I've got the time, money, friends and patience to finally crack a profession - and I think after I crack one, it will spur me onto new things.
Us Brits sure go ona lot... but I'm pouring out my SWG heart, it was so sad when I had to cancel my subscription because I could no longer play it. And I soooo much want to be part of this game - a somebody!
Please, fellow SWG friends.... lend me your help

Got off to a flying start!
I've got myself some VK's and picked up brawler and have met all my friends again etc at their player city on Eclipse. So I'm now ready to start my path of TKA.
I'll keep you'll posted on my progression (might be useful as additional information for newbs)

First of all welcome back to the game and i hope you have a great time playing the game and the Prof you have chosen. Getting to TKM gets a bit daunting after a while but once you get there OH boy you will never leave
The Hard part IMHO is Unarmed 4 to TK Novice. its hard and pain in the back side but worth it. stick in there mate and you will soon join the elite ranks of TKM which i personally have great respect for.
When i started the road to TKM i didnt know any one in the game so i soloed it all the way, with no buffs or armor.. LOL
It took me for bloody ever, but i suggest the following if you have enough money:
1- Get a good set of Comp armor
2- get Buffs from Doc & Dancer
3- Go to Dant and do Quankers, they are bloody easy to kill
4- use a good low speed VK.
Now to answer your question: a VK with speed 2.0 is faster than the one with speed 2.1
phewww i got there at last. Remember that the VK damage is nerfed for you since you are not cert for it, so you are mainly using it for speed not the damage.
hope this helps.

Hey again,
Played for about 35 minutes this morning (GMT), had to travel from Talus to Corellia (was on Talus) so I could find some easier mobs to kill. Spent about 10 minutes (max) with my VK, composite and buffs and got my first brawler box
Onward and Upward
Got a question though, I have two VKS, both have speedof around2.0. One has better damage, one is faster... which one should I use?
(BTW, higher speed the better? e.g. 2.0 is slower than 2.1?)

Great progress since last time. I travelled back to Talus after a tip-off from my friends about Mobs I could kill on there etc.
After a nice buff from some of them I managed to clock up enough XP to get me through Unarmed 2 +3! Just getting that nasty Unarmed 4 XP and I'll be on my way to TKA Novice!
Thanks again, and I'll keep you posted

WELCOME BACK BUDDY! hope ya feel better!
i'm a master commando, EASY TO GET...i won't tell you i got it in......5 hours or something like some of these knuckle heads, but after you get the flame thrower, the baz nitches in dathmir go up in a ball of smoke and blow away in the wind as aa dark cloudwith over 3k xp...(forget how much exactally)
Personally i love commando, don't get the acid rifle, rocket launcher, don't even worry about frags, just grab a nice sliced flamer and have at it :-) (THAT'S THE BACK UP PLAN)
The Enraged rancors in dathomir are 100% res to fire, so then i throw on the vibro, then SLICE N' DICE TIME!!! they go up in a pink mist. i'll be around till the server pops back up, are you on bria?
