Teräs Käsi in the CU - Unarmed fighting & Abilities.
Please discuss unarmed fighting related thoughts here. Remember that this is not a replacement for bug reports & the issues threads, this is so more people can look in to things.
For now please try & focus on abilities granted by Unarmed 1-4, this include modifiers & moves. If you want to mention an ability from the TKA tree please make it obvious you are doing so at the start of your post.
Some questions you may want to consider.
- Is CoB effective?
- How is the lack of an area attack?
- Does the 10m(ish) lunge work well for trying to catch kiters? (note that if you are testing PvP aspects keep it out of busy towns & think about the lag you may be causing)
- Other thoughts?
The unarmed tree so far has been very good & crossed with 2H it has become very viable as we now have a good damage output at lower levels (something we have never had till now).
Armour break from the 2H tree seems good from what I've noticed so far & is deffinatly a usful skill though I'm yet to do any in depth testing on that myself.
The lunge move is great from what I have seen so far & crossed with the Line of Sight changes really helps when fighting ranged opponants.
CoB again seems usful but I've not done any in depth tests yet, I've deffinatly noticed the differnce between using it & not though.

Most definatley effective... i always use it and see a major differernce in fighting when i don't use it

- Other thoughts? (TKM) The not having to wear armor and still being effective (Hopefully in PvP too) is great.
Unarmed is about the same right now as it was before CU was even thought of. Its a difficult grind, and you can't equip VKs and go berserk to do it. The difference is now you "need" at least one other person to group with to take on some of the mobs that do higher dmg.
No armor certs=no added defense, but if you put up your CoB you get a noticeable boost to defense in the realm of 250.00. I would suggest anyone going TK for right now try and get your mind around being a master brawler. The riposte stance coupled with the defensive bonuses is incredible.
TK needs either an upgrade in tanking ability for the 3rd box of unarmed, or an alternate ability that allows one to mimic some of the minor effects of meditate.
P.S. USE ARMOR BREAK ON MOBS...................
before CU, i notice it more.
lack of area attack - Only pikemen currently gots one in the brawler tree, and if you got polearms 4 you can use it, it's an area KD, pretty handy when you got more then one mob on you...
before CU, the lack of the area attack is kinda annoying, but you attack a lot faster now and seem to hit more, plus even if it was there it would have a cooldown and be pretty worthless anyways... i'm living without it.
Lunge attack - Lunge works well for kiters.... since ranged now have a movment reduction i was able to catch an imperial, lunge him, and keep up with him from there.... works well and i like how it's a KD now
Before CU, lunge was better... 20m = nice, and i like how it changed posture instead of KDing....
other thoughts - my only concer is people will dabble TKA and gram improved CoB, and then use it while they have armor on... so we wont be that uber tank, because we'll die easier....
also people talk about robes, clothes, something... why can't TKA get some... thoughness back? maybe a small reduction in damage, i mean we're all tank and little damage, i don't think it would be that imbalncing....
also, i like how when unarmed we don't use action... i dunno if this was intended or not buti love it, it's nice because i'll be able to save the action for healing and other stuff when the time comes....

Lunge works great especially when closing in and followed by a quick strike. I'm not sure its working as intended but I can hit lunge then strike quickly and land both within 1 second of each other.
Other abilities. I'll keep repeating this until this goes live.
"TKA's aren't given armor certifications, therefore we don't need armor to tank. If TKA's aren't the best tanks with the abilities we have, SOE screwed up."
That is the operative phrase in your statement. Login, check it out. Trust me, we're gonna be just fine! Look at it as "TKM no longer NEEDS armour"
