Thread: Powerboost question
how exactly does this work????
just gotten it today and can't seem to get it right... i would like too know the duration and the actual meaning of it....
P.s. haven't been a tka for long.1 week at most so don't flame me for not knowing.... ![]()
its pretty simple.. for me, i /powerboost when doing bolma lair missions on Dathomir (25k credits).. so heres how i do it:
1. go to your mission WP.. or rather, near it at about 70m away..
2. /meditate, then /powerboost.. wait for your mind to recover.. should only take about 20 seconds, depending on your willpower..
3. stand up and doubleclick on a bolma alpha (without a gun in your hand of course).. this will make all the other bolma think the alpha is being attacked, when its not, and run to you 70m away (or warp to you..bah).. take em down..
4. repeat until theres only an alpha bolma left, then go get him..
5. /meditate again and wait until /powerboost wear off (they last approximately 5 minutes).. when the waning ends, /powerboost again.. wait til your mind recovers again..
6. get up and hit the lair *ONCE* then run away 70m (side note: try to go to flat grounds or you will suffer "you are out of range")
7. wait til all the bolmas spawn (note how many there was the first time).. doubleclick alpha bolma, repeat steps 3-4)
8. /meditate again.. wait for waning to end.. /powerboost again.. wait for mind to recover..
9. get up and hit the lair again.. this time you'll need to hit it many times til its approximately 1/3-1/4 of the way destroyed.. this is hit-and-miss.. a bolma might spawn while you are hitting the lair.. if they do, dont bother peacing the lair as it wont work.. instead, doubleclick that bolma and run away again to 70m.. fight it there so others wont help..
10. repeat steps 3-4
11. dont worry about powerboosting again as no more will spawn.. finish off the lair.. easy 25,000 credits
basically, powerboost is great for "between bleeding lairs".. its also great when you're in the mood to try out a strong solitary npc (lesser dark jedi prophet for example)
hope this gives you an idea =)
I do powerboost at 100m from the closest mob. At 70m I have had a couple pop up and start to attack too soon so I moved back to 100m. Also if it is areally tough mob,I use Muon Gold immediately prior to powerboost. It screws up my stats later but adds a couple hundred to HAM for the 10 min. Hopefully they will fix the bug regarding stacking any two buffs to the same pool.
PowerBoost lasts 600 seconds so I use a macro to basically let me know how much time I have left. I use to do a countdown from 10 to 1 but found that I ended up ignoring all but the last couple so I changed it to the following.
/pause 15;/meditate;/powerboost;/pause 60;/say Ready;/pause 480;/say Disengage;/pause 60;/say Done
The pause at the beginning is just because meditate will fail unless yu have stopped moving for at least 10 seconds: "cannot meditate while running".
Dathar,
There's a post by Thunderwulf foated to the top of the forum that should answer all your questions about the mechanics of PB
Official Changes to Power Boost
Thx alot for these replies didn't see the stickied post or otherwise i wouldn't have posted..... ![]()
and especially thx for the macro it's working gr8 for me.....
Hey 64Bit. It might be a bit faster if you replaced the initial pause in your macro with /sit. /sit will get you ready to med right away.
Also, there's some kind of /timer command you can use to send yourself a notice, but I can't remember the syntax...
Try this for a macro (works for me):
/sit;/pause 1;/meditate;/pause 1;/powerboost;/pause 1;
/alarmAddin 0 2 Powerboost is charged, go get em!;
/alarmAddin 0 8 Powerboost will be going away VERY soon, get somewhere safe.;
This does an audible alarm AND a system message at the assigned times.
The format for alarmAddin is:
/alarmAddin xx yy zz;
where
xx=hours, yy=minutes, zz=system message you want displayed.
Hope this helped you out!
dathar.. regarding how far i am in TKA, see my sig ^.-
i was a little off on my timing in my first reply since i was doing it frommemory (ok so it isn't perfect =P)while waiting for the server to reboot.. i timed my powerboost (with meditation +100 modifier), and it takes exactly 100 seconds to recover my mind when powerboosting, and exactly 9 minutes and 10 seconds before waning kicks in.. so for me, my macro is:
/powerboost;
/pause 100;
/echo \#ff0000\*** POWERBOOST: \#ffffff\ Ready;
/pause 490;
/echo \#ff0000\*** POWERBOOST: \#ffffff\ 1 minute remaining;
/pause 30;
/echo \#ff0000\*** POWERBOOST: \#ffffff\ 30 seconds remaining;
Alarm is interesting, but its all about preferences =)
But wheter you use an alarm, or /pause, just note that it wont always be 100% accurate.. lag factors in, and shuttle/starports do too.. loading while shuttle for example will not be counted in powerboost timing, BUT, it will be counted in the alarm or /pause notice.. but i dont reckon you have anything to run away from in ports.. unless a Nym guard is pissed at you or something =)
Its all about choices, yes. I chose alarmAddin over the /pause track because, stacked macros with pauses in them completely screw things up. Not to mention a /dump will completely obliterate all your timings in one fell swoop (yes I used to figure out to the second and have 8000 pauses in there). After trying several times to get two separate macros to work with pauses in them, I gave up. It appears that pause timers are clientside, too. This would explain the wildly varying times that people have reported with pause. The alarmAddin command is definitely timestamped serverside, so the only variance you'll get is network lag. The only advantage I can see with /pause over /alarmAddin is, you can specify down to the second (which I just explained varies wildly), where /alarmAddin is in hours and minutes. The wild variation is probably purposely put in there to scrooo with the afk macro folks.
ok i finally get my first holo and it says go fencer i am very happy with this because it means i dont have to unlearn a bunch of stuff and can keep my dr buffs, so i get a crappy sword and start up the brawler one handed tree. i train 1 handed 2 and poof it seems i cant use powerboost anymore. is this a bug? or is it just some random bug like dr buffs seem to have every so often, its gonna suck if i cant use pb as long as i keep my tk skills.
