Thread: TKAs Should suffer more skill points in order to gain more power? ( I Like It!)
In my discussion posts concerning the power level I think TKAs should be at many are suggesting Making the skill point cost so high to get TKM that by the time your done you only have 50 or so points left over.
I am not discounting this idea...in fact I think it is a good idea only if the devs up the power and skills of the TKMs significantly....very significantly...we need to be the Ubers of Melee...plain and simple. If I cant do much beyond that other than Novice Medic or Creature handler...fine...I will suffer that as long as I am the Teras Artist I should be.
Hello!
Ok no offense but you really post a lot of drivel. Why would we be dah über melee? We are already very good for the points spent, and you can build a lot of different things out of a tkm.
You strike me as someone just looking to be dah siht, and pWn everyone... It sure is fun, but is it constructive and do we really need it?
OK guy....we cant hit anything outside of 3m.....we get owned by Kiters cause we cant hit and run.....we suffer more penalties to special moves than anyone else and you say we would own everyone?
Uber melee, yeah your darn right we should be.....able to own everyone....right, not as long as we suck in ranged defense like we do now, not as long as all other melee clasees have a 9-10m range in melee and we only have 3, not as long as our pride skill, knockdown causes us more damage than getting hit, not as long as we can only take 400 damage max without VKs and then using them only 1200 max when commandos and granadeers do 4000-5000 regularly....and dont say they dont cause I've seen them do it, not as long as we cant send in the pets and shoot the animals from affair because we have to close to be affective and in that case we are going to get hit and we are going to take damage.
You obviously have no idead what you are talking about and are probably in some other profession..umm maybe commando and are trying to defend your profession.....thats sounds about right.
Hmm no I am not commando, I am tka doctor in training. You say that because there are bugs and shortcomings that are being fixed (or attempted) as we speak, we should pay more points so all those with fully developed chars have to drop doctor, commando, smuggler, ch, aso aso? Just so theycan get to be the newl33t tkas?
Mate, think it through. If they did this prior to release it would be nice and good, but now? Not a chance. Unfortunately it is a stupid idea. When posting ideas sure you can fool around and stuff, but if you really want to make a change to something, try to think through your ideas and post things that are viable, as this clearly is not.
Im curious why you think TKA should be better melee than Pikeman, Fencers, ect. Each of those has the same cost of points as we do, each of those uses weapons with longer reach. Each of those even has a choice of weapons to use.
I have the meditation line mastered, I think the healing is awesome and the changes about to come on line will be terrific. I also have power to expert level and the first balance box so I can do knockdown. I can solo most yellows easily. With my pets, (master ch), taking on 5 mountain dewbacks at a time is no trouble. I never get kited PvE, its easy to get them to drop their weapons and melee with you, so the only area I might be at a disadvantage is PvP.
Realisticly, someone sniping with a rifle should get a hit or 2 before I can close the gap. If I choose to charge that person I should run a huge risk of dying before I reach them. An expert with a pistol should be a great challenge for me as well. I dont want to lose every time, but I believe the real challenge is to find ways to minimize your disadvantages while strengthing your advantages. Having 2 fast pets, on guard, that will instantly attack anyone that takes a shot at me is one way to compensate. Wearing armor with a quick remove macro is another way to protect myself, I have 50% resist composite that gets removed with a keystroke when Im in range and wish to battle, otherwise I get a few extra moments to let pets reach the attacker while I am figuring out where the heck that shot came from.
I have never played a game in "God" mode that was much fun for long. Keep the challenges in this profession, dont give us everything or it will get real boring real quick.
Nyca
I wish it was.....i stood 5m from a Torutr yesterday and let me tell you what is saw..
Target is out of range
Target is out of range
Target is out of range
I like Pikemen by the way,,,it takes a hell of alot of devotion and true love for the art to persue it. I have nothin but love for Pikemen.
But the fact of the matter is the Teras Kasi have a long standing history in the Star Wars books and orignal story as Uber Melee. They even have Force Skills to extent of allowing the force to use them and no the other way around like the Jedi.
In the books the Teras were formed because they did not like the fact that one singular group, the Jedi were the monopoly of ultimate power. Thus, the Teras were formed to keep the Jedi in check. In the books, Luke Skywalker actually sought Teras out to help rebuild the Jedi Order...now ask you again..how powerful should we be? You ask why should we be better than Pikemen and swordsman?
Now if we were restricted by increasing our skill point cost to the point were we could not really persue anything else, such as ranged weapons...then we would be kept in check, but with a great increase to our power we would at least be as formidible as we should be.
Just a note about the out of range issue. They are working to fix this. Here's a quote from the combat dev from the the sept 18th post.
The server/client fudge factor is 12m IIRC.

Melee Out of Range issue:
This is caused by the object on your client being drawn in a different location that it exists on the server.
The proposal to fix this is to increase the melee range of all weapons to a value that is closer to the margin of error between the client/server. This will make combat look a little funny as you’ll be able to hit a target further away, but I think this is an appropriate tradeoff.
I also posted about this in your previous post. By the way, why are you making 40000000000 posts about the same subject? You have a thread where this stuff is being discussed, why not stick with it. Jumping around like this creates cross posts between threads like this one.
Anyway you can completely forget about making the skill point costs for TKA go up in the near future. Sure you can shout about it, you can complain to the DEVs, you can even have some great reasons why. But 2 factors will prevent this from happening:
1) There are Master TKAs who have used all of their skill points already. There are professions that took TKA as a supplement to their skills. You can't take their skills away because you decide to change the rules. It's not fair
2) The DEVs are having a hard enough time balancing our professions. Making an uber melee class that doesn't even follow the same skill point use as EVERY OTHER profession in the game doesn't sound like something they would even consider.
I think you can forget about making TKA the uber melee profession. It's fun to dream, and you are welcome to shout and complain and raise all the supporting evidence for your position that you like, but you are most likely wasting your time. One has to choose their battles wisely, this battle just seems foolish to me. Fight for something smaller and more concrete and you might see it happen.

ur right, but I cannot help but say something...you never know if we complain enough they might actually raise an eyebrow like theRock at least but I am not holding my breath.
It really helps me to vent though I really believe these are viable issues......You know you say they are working hard to balance the professions....Balance? What the hell does that mean? That every profession shoud be on equal ground? Not!
I wouldnt mind master brawler being the requirement(as there is almost 0 reason to get master brawler) to give tka's a little more firepower. Im not really sure about the history of tka's and if they use weapons, but Im thinking about the chinese monks that are not only masters of unarmed, but also melee weapons.
Dont see it happening though
it seems that xeo starts a new thread about this every time someone mentions that there is no official sw material that supports this idea. when asked why this should be, his answer is 'because in all the sw books teras kasi are the uber melee and were formed to keep jedi in check'. well, that's just not the case. he's been asked in every thread to provide an actual book that supports this, and afaik hasn't done so.
just because you read a nice story about something on the web doesn't mean that it's official (ever hear of fan fiction?). the only official material is on paper and video. this has been said over and over, so please stop with these threads where you make all these claims about what is official and whatnot.
