Thread: Holy Grappling Hook Batman!

I'm sure there's a number of tkm's who would disagree with me. I personally feel the kd/dizzy combo is unfair. Of course the one great thing about it is it keeps ranged opponents from running away and prevents kiting. but the thing i dont like about it, is once the opponent is knocked down and dizzied they arent able to fight back. this is where i feel the unfairness lies. Now here's my idea:

i think melee professions should be given a weapon similar to batman's grappling hook(hence this post's title). it would be a thrown weapon that would tangle up an opponent preventing them from running away. (this is how u keep the positive aspect to kd/dizzy in). but it wouldnt prevent them from fighting back. (this eliminates the negative aspect of kd/dizzy). im sure this weapon could be snuck in to the tka skill tree somewhere. the higher up in the tree u go the better the grappling hook is: tier 1 entanglement lasts 15 seconds, tier 2 25 seconds etc.

again this is just an opinion and an idea but i think a good one because it solves what i see as an imbalance without the need for nerfing.

Yep, and the forum trolls and smacktards come out of the woodwork!

Geez, it's all ideas...

Sorry, but this one I didn't like either. Knockdown has ALWAYS been a specialty of martial arts...and if it's going to be available...it's definitely the TKs that should have it.

A natural progression from KD1 to KD2 should actually be a longer KD and a little more damage...the dizzy effect was SWGs natural add-on to fix this...I just think they need to redo it with a3 sec KD effect for KD1 and a6 sec effect for KD2...

AND NO FREEKING LASER EYES! hehehe I want Fireballs from my eyes, and Lightning bolts from my arse!

Mmm - Unfair? In real life, if you get knocked down.. How well do YOU fight? Or shoot? Excuse me if this sounds akin to a flame -But when I get knocked down, I get up before I can continue to do whatever it was I was doing before.. And the ONLY people I have seen that call Dizzy/KD unfair are in fact those Ranged characters who lost due to it - Simply because they couldn't Kite.

And again... taking real life into consideration, humans and animals alike, once snared.. they do NOT fight, they attempt to get free. This just smacks of "I want to be able to be Superman, and be able to do my damage no matter what." What you call a negative, I do not.. If things were equal, TKM would have higher level firepower to offset the loss of Dizzy/KD - And just imagine what a TKM with a set of VKs that did 1000 max damage would be like. Or better, imagine if we had weapons with high bleed rates, AP2, heat, acid, blast damage.. Point is, we don't have those. We are limited to a set of VKs with a lower set of damage. To offset this, we get a Dizzy/KD combo. The easiest way to avoid us using it on you - stay at range.

I notice you don't state your profession.. Are you a TKM? Or are you a ranged type character? If I go by what I read, I'd have to say you were Master Rifleman - Because they are who I constantly see in game shouting NO FAIR when they get knocked on their butt.

Yes!

I have to say I don't much like this idea. I mean, it's good that you're having ideas and presenting them. I just don't see much of a reason for this.

To the original poster:

I understand the initial concept, and I even agree to a point, but the method you suggest to fix it just doesn't fit. Instead of looking to add something like this why not just change the way a KD works? It takes a moment to recover, so after an opponent is KD'd they are "stunned" for a short duration. While stunned they can still retaliate, but cannot run away until they "regain their composure."

To everyone else:

Remember that the purpose of the forums is to discuss ideas. Try to look past the aspects that seem outlandish (point them out mind you) and try to help develop the idea into something that is feasible

Ryutek, I agree...I see a lot of "flaming" when someone brings in any idea...good or bad.

I do hear a lot of other professions think TK is without flaw or "uber". I really don't think so. I LIKE playing a TK...the only thing I don't like is the stuff already said to be not working right.

I don't think the TK class needs any nerf, we are very unique...but limited. It's the limited part I think we all want fixed. But I don't think it's the class doing it, it's the creatures we choose to fight, or how we choose to fight. If we are limited to kenetic...so what, as long as we don't try taking on a 100% kenetic creature we are fine.

But taking the KD/Dizzy away? Maybe it's just the KD2 with the KD/Dizzy at one time. But rarely do I use that for the dizzy, I try to get dizzy on BEFORE I do a KD. So "nerfing" the combo is no big deal to me.

Now If we are talking about the Dizzy effect...I agree, i think it's a bit overpowered from a pvp perspective, but ONLY if you have an alternate damage type. If you are stuck to Kenetic...it's not that overpowered.

While I agree with the concept IE; being able to shoot someone from a long distance, I do believe a mile is a bit extreme.. Physics alone tell you bullets move at the speed of sound, not light - and at a mile distance, when combined with gravity, curvature of the earth (minimal at this range, but still a factor) and movement of the target, a mile is quite unlikely, unless you've used 50mm guns on a battleship

However, I agree - We SHOULD have a profession that CAN do long distance damage akin to a Sniper. Possibly in the 128m range.. Powerful, but not instant death, otherwise you'd need to give ALL professions an Instant Death attack..
