Thread: (NEW IDEA) FIGHTING STYLES!!
For fairness and balance, something similar would have to be done for every profession, and that is so great of an undertaking it would probably take a second CU. Maybe in SWG 2 you'll see that.

While I do love that we are getting new weapons, it kinda defeats the purpose of calling us TKM (steel hands). I think once you reach tkm you can go into about 5 different fighting types ( karate, ti-kwon-doh, boxing etc.) sorry i dont know all the names lol or how they are spelled so forgive me. These would be kinda like specialty profs. Some fighting types would be more offense while others more defense.
This would add great depth to tkm, and would make it so we arent all a bunch of clones like we are now.
Once you got to tkm you could learn novice boxer or ti-kwon-doh initiate. Once you hit the master title you could wear the title ti-kwon-doh blackbelt. These specialty profs would cost half as much spas an elite but take twice as much xp to get each box.
it is Tae Kwon Do
no flaming meant, but I think it dishonors the art to misspell the name.

I will dishonour TKD all the time its turned into a very shallow weak sport, nothing like the orginal system it has become watered down and karates aproach with kata is all wrong its training you in a false sense of security by avoiding acual combat as it is, Now Freestyle, Gracie Jujitsu,Muay thai, shootfightng, judo, sambo and wrestling are the worlds most effective arts its been proved through many MMA matches(mixed martial arts) do I want to see any of these in star wars? no I agree there could be more arts based around the starwars fictionbut I never ever want to be incapped by a tkd or karate blackbelt even in a fictional world I couldnt live with the shame!!! If I wanted to fly round the room beliving that wing chun will work in a open space I would play the matrix.

(plz dont add RL martial arts it would ruin my game feelings and real life feelings being a martial artist)
interesting "theories" but just cause you don't agree doesn't justify deliberately misspelling the proper name.
MMA is not an art at all, it's a fighting style. It's cobblestoned techniques from other arts around the world and guess what? It is also designed for tournament usage (not necessarily for street defense either). I agree that many (not all) Tae Kwon Do schools teach the martial sport of TKD, one designed to win trophies and tournaments, not protect yourself in real life situations.
Conversly, there are plenty of schools everywhere that do teach the martial art of Tae Kwon Do. The original version that tends to include joint locks, throws, pain compliance techniques, weapons, and ground fighting.
Katas exist for a reason, they are designed as a method to passtechniques onto future generations, to preserve history if you will.I agree that itseems to be the sole focus at some schools, but that doesn't give the students the sufficient platform for self defense.
If you want to check out a cool thread, do a search hereon the forums for my name and a post entitled "Name your martial art." There you'll find a lot of your fellow players have a lot of experience in a multitude of martial arts from all over the world.

hey man I just hate arts to be missreprestated myself but why should I give a art instant respect when it limits so much?(btw org TKD is a great style)I always take a jeet kune do freestyle prespective on things taking away only what is effective,I belive MMA is a great platform and gives you enough freedom to show your basic fighting skills of striking and grappling and in a way it is a martial art just it has another name Vale Tudo,If you were to ask me though boxing and wrestling are arts the oldest of western unarmed fighting styles.
In a way I feel im turning into my own version of anikin im only 17 and my abillitys occasionaly make me arrogant
Again, no disrespect, but the fact that you're 17 and arrogant enough to think you're some type of powerful fighter says a lot about you. Don't worry, a LOT ot kids that age walk around with their chest poked out for no other reason than to appeal to their own ego (you're a lot greater in your mind than in the real world)
There is something to be found useful in all arts, that was the point Bruce Lee was trying to make as well. Every art contains "fluff," some just contains more than others.
Not wearing protective gear for sparring does not make a person more macho, a better warrior, or whatever romanticized image you may have of people who don't. It is worn very simply because kicks and punches were designed to cause injury to an opponent anyone NOT using them is silly imo.
Boxing and wrestling are the oldest martial arts, predating the emergence of kung-fu as we know it by quite a few years.
Again, I mean no harm, but if you think you're like a fictional character such as Anakin Skywalker, I say to you there's a great big world out there. Once you experience more of it, you'll start to see things differently.
