TERAS KASI ARENT MONKS

Look at the EU! They arent monks, they dont live in temples, they dont have oaths of goodness and tranquility.

There are 6 Teras Kasi named in the EU.

Phow Ji: a member of the Followers of Palawa, arguably the best Teras Kasi Master ever. He was also a murderer and mercenary, who stole trophies off of his kills in battle. (source: Medstar1 Battle surgeons, and Holonet News)

The pike sisters: Zan and Zu Pike. Teras Kasi Artists, also criminals, open to work for the Black Sun (Source; Shadows of the Empire)

Joclad Danvi: A Jedi, who fought Phow Ji in a tournament on Bunduki's captil city, and lost. However, it was an UNARMED tournament, and he did not use the force. (asala, something like that) (source: holonet news)

Dux Pike: Also fought Phow Ji in the tournament. Father of Zan and Zu pike. Was killed by Phow Ji during the fight. It was not a murder, or atleast wasnt reported as so.

And arden lyn, who I admitedly, know very little about.

None of these people were monks, none go on record as ever wearing Robes, Gis, or anything of the like. There IS record of Arden Lyn, and the pike sisters, both wearing no armor, and wellfitting outfits that do not hinder their movement. NOT ROBES

Ever tried to do a spin kick in a bathrobe? Not very efficient.

awesome post cango

I think alot of people want TK to be as close to "jedi" as possible so they can pretend in thier own fragmented minds that they are Jedi with out doing the grind. So they come up with things such as Light Saber Knuckles, and robes. The meditate line adds to this aswell.

Admittedly I'm somehwhat guilty of this aswell.

I agree, although I will point out, there is a certain ammount of mysticism to Teras Kasi, as with meditation. But that is totally on inner strength and themselves, not magically sensing nearby force users.

Cango, it very much deppends on your line of thought of what exactly a 'robe' meens, it's quite a wide open term.

What you seem to miss though is while there is no record of them wearing robes, at the same time there is no record of TKA's not wearing robes. However alot of people just see robes as something a TKA might wear, something that allows easy flowing movment & keeps a traditional look, much like some chinese monks. It's just the perception alot of people get.

It's these differnt perceptions though that people get, & many want stuff that reflects these perceptions. Personly I quite like the thought of a robe of some discription, however I don't like the thought of it been something I get draged in to wearing all the time as it has bonuses to deffence, personly I quite like the idea of a robe that adds nothing but just looks good, however something like a sash that could maybe also be granted when you get the robe that does offer some small bonus would be good in my opinion. That way people still have something they can earn & use without been draged away from what they would like their character to look like (like the Jedi robes do now, or like comp does).

But 'robes' for TKA in general is a very popular idea, which is why once the CU is in live it's something I plan on following up some of the threads we have had about it in the past &, should they still be wanted, put some kind of suggestion to the Devs.

As for some people thinking alot of people just want them to be close to Jedi, I disagree, though in some cases it is true, I think it's more of a case of alot of people think people want to be Jedi like just as quite a bit of Jedi ideas are acctuly very generic, just not alot of people see how much of it is a very generic thing. Robes been a good example, another been when in the discussion thread I mentioned I would quite like to see an FRS style advancment beyond Master for us (& all other proffesions) & some people thought I ment I want us to be more like Jedi, which wasn't the case.

Anyway as I said earlier it is something I will follow up to get opinions on it after the CU, but like the robe idea or not, I feel we really need to be more focused on seeing what the CU does to us before anything.

Oh & Cango, I might just add, you forgot to mention Darth Maul who was reported to have been a practicioner of the Teräs Käsi Art & used it to enhance his lightsaber technique.

Then why not commando robes?
Or armorsmith robes?
Maybe Bounty hunter robes?

No, that'd be silly for a bounty hunter to get its own robes, bounty hunters dont wear robes, if they really want to wear robes, they can get them from a tailor.

There are robes in this game, and any profession can wear them, including Teras Kasi. Get you're Bio engineered robe and be a monk if you want, but it's silly to pigeon hole everyone else into a robe wearing monastery visiting monk, despite the fact that nothing in the EU suggests it.

You seem to be really missing the point, personly I'd happily see any combat proffesion have something like this if they feel it would add a good imersion factor to their proffesion. You picked the proffesion that are acctuly some of the ones that would soon sillyest, but a form of robe for a fencer, or a swordsman (or a pikeman) wouldn't sound so far fetched would it?

The point is it's an item of clothing that keeps hiderence to a minimum. You seem to be very hooked up in the word Robe, yet in a post previous (in another thread on the same topic) I saw you mention tunic's, which acctuly you could class as a form of robe.

The argument most people will bring up is this, ranged proffesions get their armour that gives them the ability to stay put while they take aim & take a couple of hits, however something like that to a proffesion that is ment to be more mobile like melee proffesions are just doesn't make sense.

Yes we can just get a tailor to make clothes for us that are robe like & I agree with this, but this doesn't offer any thing that add imersion behind it, a little quest that gives a robe however would be great, even if it's only short. & before you say 'why not then have a quest for XXXXX' a robe would just add the feeling of been a part of something bigger which alot of people see TKA as been.

Anyway this is a discussion for later & not now, mainly as I need some sleep though. *disapears*

I see TK like a art formsuch as Kung fu or ninjisu. When you train in these you wear somethin to show you do so i think robes would be a realy good idea with diffrent levels shown by diffrent colors or something like that.

Heh, man I dont even know what the "EU" is.

I have been playing melee proffesions for a while now. First fencer then tkm with it, swordman for a while.

I have always liked wearing some sort of dress with my armor, I know that doesnt sound right lol ..but you know what

I mean. Im not the only one who does it. I have seen the ..Post a Pic of your TKM outfit ..type threads here.

I dont think there should be any item that you should feel you have to wear. I dont think anyone should be pressured into

wearing something that doesnt fit his/her personal view of their character.

The only reason I asked about it here is because I have seen the topic here before. I just wanted to know if there was anything

new being said. With the no armor thing I thought maybe.

Anyway thats where Im comeing from.

BTW ..where can I look at this EU.

Why does it have to be a robe? Why cant we make it so that BEs can work together with armorsmiths and make a sort of tissue that can be put in any kind of clothing? That way you can look how you want and not be identicle to everybody else. Maybe make the cert for it come from some sort of TK quest? Or make it a BE quest?
