Thread: Sony hates melee classes in Swg just like they did in Eq

I played Eq for four years, and melee classes were of marginal use. Caster (ranged) classes could fry a melee class before they got in melee range. What's changed? Nada.

Can we please reconsider this? Or are you going to try to make this Eq in space? Just like Sony does, we have ch's with pets that tank better than us, and classes like Pistoleer that can tank better than us by spamming pistol whip, not to mention bh's that can one-hit kill us in melee combat.

Rather than just bitch about the status quo, here's a solution. Raise the level of ranged evades for upper level melee classes. So if we have are an upper level melee class, and we have no ranged weapon equipped, we maybe get hit 75% less than we are now - giving us a chance to get in melee range.

I am probably posting this in vain. I haven't seen a dev even post on the tk board in weeks. WHY IN GOD'S NAME WOULD YOU EVEN MAKE MELEE CLASSES IF THEY ARE USELESS? Why not just make all the classes ranged?

I know I am ranting, but I am in black belt in rl, and I bought this game because the TK artist appealed to me. After four years of playing Eq, I knew that Sony hates melees, and this should not have been a surprise in this game. Twety years from now, our kids will be bitching about why their melee class is useless.

Twety=Twenty. And I meant this in the context of our kids playing the next big Sony MMORG (Maybe Everquest #10 or something).

Uhh...melee classes only marginally useful? That is wrong. Completely wrong. You needed tanks for almost all situations. In EQ, the casters (read: ranged) got hit with the nerf bat a whole lot more than any tank.

Sony doesn't "hate" anything, get that straight. This is a new MMORPG, and things will get balanced. It's gonna take some long and painful months, but it'll happen. I'm surprised that people actually expected better.

The only thing that can tank in this game are the Pokemoner's pets.

Read again, and read closely. I was referring to EQ.

What EQ were you playing? In high reasonably high level group you HAD to have at least 1 tank. You didn't even need and in a lot of cases want a damage caster. Hell I would have taken a rogue or monk over a wizard any day. PvP? Any tank worth a shiz had enough resists that no wizards would ever land a spell on you. Now I stopped playing right around the time of lures so that could have changed. This is rapidly becoming EQ in space (read: have to group; kill the same arbitrary animal over and over and over...). I've run some faction missions and done a couple anchorhead skirmishes, but for the most part its killing some creature I've never seen in any of the movies (what exactly is a baz nitch?).

I have always thought since day one that one of the simplest ways to help blance melee and range in Pvp would be simply to increase the range evade rate for higher level TKs. I TK master should get hit at range about 50% less than a ranged weapon user. Seems to make sense to me.

I dont know about your EQ experience but I always found tanks to be in high demand. Well except Rangers, no one likes rangers dirty hippies.

I played a 64 Bard and 64 Warrior, and I left right around when Enchanters could charm pets in Pop that were much tougher than melee was. I left right around when groups would shun melee and just get a chanter's pet as the main tank.

Want to talk pvp? My bard never lost to a melee in pvp, even if they had uber resists.

My main concern is that this game is becoming more and more like Eq. Casters could solo pretty much any non-summoning mob in Pop, but melee couldn't solo for experience, standing toe-to-toe. Sure bards, rangers and sk's could kite, but what melee class could go toe-to-toe with mobs that gave experience at 60+?

pvp in EQ was not balanced, nor it is here. But they really shouldn't nerf us, they should instead upgrade our class.

See I dont want them to nerf us, then with everyones complaining nerf marksman too. I think they should solve the problem by simply upgrading us. This way players stay happy.

OMG< talk about exaggeration. Let me guess, the highest mob you ever camped in Everquest was the West commons Derves, right?

Amen brother. My hope since owning this had been one could get skills in multiple professions that would enable them to solo PvE at the cost of being a PvP killing machine. Since everyone wants to be exactly the same in PvP regardless of allocation of skill points, no ones gonna be dominant at PvP OR PvE. Sounds good right? Instead of putting on points in a combat class, someone with half entertainer and half riflemen has the exact same chance to kill you as a master bounty hunter. Oh yeah thats alot better. In EQ you had specific classes that had specific roles in a group and raid. Thats quickly what this game is evolving into.

I've always viewed this game as a means to RP in the SW universe. I never saw that as endlessly xp on biznatches and jaxs. It doesn't matter if you get 100,000,000 pistol xp or 4,000,000, its how you allocate the 250 skill points. This is a great idea. This implies that the skill you can attain is finite and only how you prioritize what skills are important to you defines who your character is. My comment on the above would be bards are kind of an anomoly and hard to place as a profession in this game. Ranged combat types fall more easily into the wizard class where you do direct damage vs. resists. How great would it be have been for wizards to make their nukes resist based SOLELY on non-resist gear weaing warriors. What happens when they finally get a set? Forget nuking, I guess their 100 skill peircing would have to suffice.
