Thread: Sony hates melee classes in Swg just like they did in Eq
you musta been another gay ranger.
if you had played a monk then you would understand how much promise tka has, and how little it lives up to it atm.
Melee pvp in eq was/is not unbalanced at all. Some simple examples are
1) Characters run at different speeds depending on buffs (dispel a caster that has sow+, have your own sow potions or get sow, melee's have the hp's to stand up to attacks long enough to do these things)
2) As above, you havemore hitpoints to withstand things and you have to do less to kill them
3)Even melee characters in EQ have ranged attacks
4) Ranged classes have to STOP to do damage to melee classes
5) Resists!!! The most important. The only spells that lands in high lvl pvpw/consistancyare lures. And now, even they are possibly resistable with the ammount of resists you can acheive.
The hugest difference at this point in time between the two games pvp are resists. In EQ, when an expansion/new spells come out the casters are always a bit stronger until the gear evens it back out. In SWG,with the woeful ham costs of armor we will just have to wait until there are low encumberance high resist armor for the gap to narrow in that respect. As longthere isnt armor with huge kinetic defense... ![]()
Melee classes were/are extremely important in EQ, however I'll agree there's little need from them in a group in SWG. And yes, melee classes did plenty well in PvP in EQ as well. Ever seen a rouge double backstab a meditating wizard? Insta-death.
I definitely think melees in SWGneed to stand some chance against ranged players in PvP.Alot of that can be helped by making it easier for us to hit moving targets and give us better evade percentages on ranged attacks like you said.
Teras Kasi in particular need better non-armor defenses, or some more specific light armor tailored to our class. It was always been a thing with martial arts classes that they wear little to no armor as it only gets in the way of their movement and abilities.
I'll probably suggest it to SOE, but I think all melees should get an ability called Pursue. You can only use this ability when you have a target you can attack in your target window, and it only lasts 5 seconds. It gives you ridiculous evade % against range attacks and makes you run faster than burst run. Refreshes every hour.
"I TK master should get hit at range about 50% less than a ranged weapon user. Seems to make sense to me. "
TKA masters arent the only meleer in this game, jees give the other meleers some respect. your not the only one getting one shot killed before we close in and beet done ranged asses. just my 2 cents not saying tka sucks just saying your not the only meleers
*When skill attachments start working, you can add a **edit**load of +Ranged Defense mods to your clothing. There is no need to raise us innately when there are options out there*.
Sure it will work if it's the only things droppin. But I have seen plenty of Pistol accuracy while running skill mods, Rifle accuracy etc.
TKA's need their own innate bonus

Well this is the TKA board, is it not?, hehe. We don't care bout no stinkin pikeman!!, Go Home to your own boards!!, J/K

If this was directed at me: I DID play a monk (smaegol - mithmar) and cleric (steenky britches). As I recall I couldn't tank shiz. I could do lots of damage and FD pull no sweat, but any group where I was up in front taking a beating we would have @ss loads of downtime. I also don't remember being able to knockdown anything I fought. And in terms of PvP vs a ranger, pfft the safe money would be on the ranger (damage shield, dots, snare, weapon sprocs, etc).
So you're saying that the people that dont think TKA is that bad off are the Fanboys and that they are absolutely wrong? Its an opinion, it cant be wrong, just like yours cant be. You're entitled to yours, let others be entitled to theirs without being verbally assaulted by idiots.
I have a Wookiee Rifleman on Tarquinas and a Trandoshan TKA on Sunrunner. I love playing both of them, but I find that I have much more fun with my TKA. Why? I dont really know. Maybe its the increased interaction during fights. Maybe its because I love seeing numbers floating above a creature's head every second instead of every few seconds.
I certainly think that there needs to be some balancing done in the game, but being constructive with what you are doing to say will get you 1000 times further than whining about it.
I loooovveeee all the people that consider Tuskens to be "end game" creatures....they are hardly that. Now go to Dathomir and keep getting slaughterd while your pistol friends run around laughing about the Nightsisters. You on the otherhand have to get in close and personal and get throughly chewed up. (Either through repeated HAM cost for knockdown or by 1 hit for 1000 from the witch.)
