Thread: I keep telling folks to RELEARN the game ...

OK here goes folks. I am going to tell you an itsy bitsy secret about playing TKA.

TKA stems from the BRAWLER profession. As long as you have learned the brawler moves they work with any other branch.

Polearm IV has a special move. 1H IV has a special move. 2H IV has a special move.

Put those move icons on your bar. Do you get an "x" over the moves when you are unarmed? Do you get an "x" over the unarmed moves when you carry one of the 1H, 2H, or Polearm weapons?

Guess what folks, you can use ALL those moves with any of the other skills. One of those skills is a low level damage sweep AoE knockdown move. One of those moves does an armor break to reduce opponent's AC. Etc, etc. Did you know those all work with UNARMED as well? Did you know all your unarmed special moves work with any of those WEAPONS armed?

Have you TRIED, or were you too busy complaining about the way you USED to play the game but have had to change?

How did I find this out? I experimented. It's called LEARNING. It worked. I actually learned how to recover my skills.

RELEARN the game folks.

Quit griping about what you WERE and ARE NOT. It's a new game.

Why is TKA still the best TANK in the game? ABSOLUTELY NO ENCUMBRANCES.

I don't have to wear armor and get buffs for the encumbrances.

I don't see my green line dropping every time I do a special attack like I do when I have a weapon in my hands. And I can do every special attack every other Brawler in this game does. I do this UNBUFFED.

I have no speed encumbrances on my special moves like someone with a weapon in their hands does.

And, I have Meditate IV. I mend my wounds while I meditate. I have the ability to quick recover from incapacitation WITHOUT using food or drink.

I am RELEARNING the game.

What I did before the CU I did before the CU.

I have stopped living in the past and am getting on with my future.

I agree and I love the fact that you can use specials from other profs.

If there is one piece of advice I can give you all is to use armour break. I and some guildies were in the DWB last night and I noticed as soon as I hit armour break the damage the mob took went up by around 50%. Armour break is now one of the most useful moves in the game!!

Armor break is great. I'll have to test with a smuggler friend if using one of their specials who reduces defense vs state attacks will make armor break more likely to stick.

I've been pretty happy with how often it sticks. Only SBD's have ever really resisted more than once for me. I have a smuggler commando mate though aswell so I'll be interested to hear the results of those tests

Another hint I would give folks is to pick up novice fencer for body hit or novice swords for head hit as you will find they do a lot of damage.

I think the sad thing here is that you are saying Teras Kasi can't get the job done efficiently alone - you have to pick up other skills as well. Which is all very well, or would be if we had - oh, say another twenty or thirty skill points to spare. Speaking as someone who was aiming for TKM/Master Ranger, I would have 4 points left to spare. Enough to get, er, well one box each of 1h melee and pike. Before the CU, that wouldn't have been an issue; TKA stood by itself fine. After the CU, it looks like I have to choose between being a decent fighter (not even a top one) and being a Ranger.

agree . .

Using other profession skills can be cool, but don't you have to know them in order to use them? If I want to use the pikeman special then I have to learn it. This is my argument shared with others I'm sure. TKA alone should be enough to as the Devs say it "stand toe to toe" with atleast just 1 mob that is equal to your level. I challange anyone to try doing this ONLY using specials in the TKA tree, not brawler, swords, pike or whatever. My guess is that you'll either die or run like a noob. TKA is or was considered an elite profession, why should it be the weakest one requiring the NEED for other specials from OTHER professions. According to the design specs, pikeman are supposed to be weaker in offsense than TKA. But we all know this isn't the case. Why should TKA suffer so much and be so weak. It would be one thing to say that the defense is REALLY good, but this doesn't seem to be the case either.

We are all re-learning the game, I just don't like the fact that I have to spend more skill points to do it.

So I can use other professions moves huh? I knew armor break and leg sweep from swordsman because it was required. What happens if I use a sword, does my inate armor go away?

My innate armor works perfectly well when I use my powerhammer; worked well when I used a ranged weapon on test, too. It's only when you equip armor that it goes away. And possibly for more time than it should, I've heard some say that, haven't tested it myself so it remains unproven for me.

I can say...while leaving every bit of armor I own at home and whaling away with my powerhammer, I was doing well against krayts on Tat. Heck, beating 'em all over the place. Somehow I don't think my good looks were keeping the dragons from hurting me
